I prefer 6, but only if leveling isn't convoluted or time consuming. Hiving so many characters to pay attention to and remember makes me feel like DM again. Also it's harder to take breaks, you forget everything you were doing.

It's really the ultimate challenge in the D&D realm. There is nothing else out there. No other game, definitely not the newest release, and no other Baldurs Gate 2 mod either. SCS simply doesn't cut it if you are looking for a challenge.

It doesn't matter, What matters is how many companions I have. Games should do it the way Rome did it - you have enough party spaces for all your companions. And if there are more companions than spaces in our party, then they should still all accompany you and contribute to exploration and social encounters, but only active party members participate in battle. To take it a step further adopt FFX system - party members can be switched mid battle. Maybe developers should hire me, because I'm abviously better at it than them

Elelphants are one of the two type of encounters, yes.
Companions are trash, but you either use Dawn nstar or Chaka, whoever gives passive healing or chi replenishment.
And you can stunlock enemeis with weak attacks of most styles (not slow ones like white demons).
It's also game over for any humanoid enemies when you get storm dragon.

Whenever I hear Minthara I am reminded of how disappointing Halsin is as a companion. Like in Act 1 he's wise, thoughtful, firm but fair leader of the druids. Then you get him and like 90% of his dialogue is about fucking.

Minthara comes into act 1 with the most graphic sex scene in the game and is probably one of the coolest companions to have in the game. It's a shame I can't get her dual world Mace build to work on my team but whatever.

I honestly think Kagha would have made more sense as a secret companion. Because she already fits in with the party theme of "assholes who made mistakes and paid the price"

It's pretty good. But you also have to adjust your expectations for it being 25 years old. Still, surprisingly good. You have dreams and these change depending, so also do some minor powers. There are good and evil companions, and in-between of course, and some extremes won't put up with each other, so it's easier to keep a "generally good" or "generally evil" party.
Some companions will also leave if your reputation gets too high or low.
Viconia is a BG1 and BG2 character.
I would suggest BG1 (and Tales of the Sword Coast, which is just optional extra stuff but it's good). It should just be part of EE, which I also recommend for quality of life and modding if you choose to do that at some point.
The character gets ported, sort of. At any point you can export your character, and when you start BG2 you can import that character. Of course it makes the most sense to export at the end of BG1. A few items, if they are in your inventory, will be present in BG2, some not directly on you at first.
None of your choices or character interactions carry through, but it does feel the best to continue one character through the two games.
You don't have to minmax so it's best to play with RP in mind.
Siege of Dragonspear was made later and some people have strong opinions about it. Personally I thought it was well done, but to not mess up XP I would play it stand-alone sometime or as a second playthrough of the series.

"Reputation" here is just some kind of omniscient understanding that everyone in the world has of you. Kill a commoner in the middle of the woods? Your reputation goes down a bunch, shopkeepers will be a little more expensive, Edwin will nod approvingly, Jaheira will tell you how terrible you are.
If your reputation gets too high, evil characters will leave. If it gets too low, good characters will leave. Not all but some.

The problem with evil playthroughs is that joining with main villain would usually end the plot - even if you end up usurping or fighting him from inside.

In order to have the usual structure you would need another faction of good guys you'd have to fight after dipping into evil juice. And that opens even greater can of worms. fallout New vegas did it fine, but there all factions are kind of fucked up on some level.

I kinda hate BG3 not doing the obvious evil playthrough - Joining Kethric's plan of betraying the two other dead god guys. And having Baldur's gate be just one pitched battle with you digging deeper into the city. But then again, they barely finished one act 3, so I shouldn't really ask for 2. But I will.

It depends but largely I think it's overblown. There's plenty of cringe in vanilla. You can just not take any companion that you don't feel like.
Unfortunately the modding itself is a bit jank so I don't have a list of mods, but maybe I should put one together.

- There's one about pack animals behaving more like they should: wolves keeping their distance unless they overwhelm you in number, also scattering if you take a lot of their pack out.
- I'd suggest some kind of economy mod, because you end up drowning in money and imo that's not really fun. I like having to make hard decisions about what equipment to buy or keep, but this depends on you.
- Though it changes quite a bit of things, I would suggest Spell Revisions actually, as a pretty aggressive overhaul of magic. It stays balanced (at least as much as vanilla), and also makes some useless spells not-useless, and also introduces some better scaling so that your early level spells are actually useful later.
- There's a mod that sets NPCs in more reasonable locations (some you don't run into until very late in the game, which feels bad.)
- I'd suggest SCS even though people usually see this as "make the game harder for experienced players", it doesn't have to be that way necessarily, it also adds new behaviors and a little better AI to enemies.
- The NPC Project gives a lot of extra bants, most characters will otherwise be pretty silent for almost everything. It also gives a few little sidequests. It can also be more than a little cringe, with a 'fanfic author tone', but, I'd suggest that it's not really that far off vanilla BG1, and sometimes anything is better than total silence.

All these are just light suggestions, things that I wouldn't argue against starting with, but I don't think they're necessary and might not fit what you like personally. A vanilla first playthrough is perfectly fine and good.

The main issue with the evil path isn't even the companion tradeoff (since let's be real, Wyll and Halsin ain't a loss so it's basically about whether you care about Karlach at all) but rather that you cuck yourself out of a whole set of Act 2 and 3 questlines as well as the literally most important vendor in the game, all in exchange for...nothing. No personal power, no new allies, no new quests, fucking NOTHING. If destroying the goblin camp had actually resulted in Moonrise being more destitute and lacking several of its own vendors, that might have made things more even and perhaps given a reason to do another playthrough, but as it stands the only reason to go with the Evil option in Act 1 is to finish the game faster with less gear.

I had fun with a high int barbarian. I had low might and high dex/perception, and leaned into interrupt. The idea was basically double fisting weapons as fast as I can with as high interrupt as I can, while also doing my barbarian yell and a few other things. I would say it was one of my more satisfying builds.

Rogue is by far the weakest class. Pillars encounters are also generally tuned higher than other rpg's of the time because it's on a per encounter system so it expects you to pull out every trick in your book every encounter, and shifting your mentality from a per rest gotta save my resources in case I need them later to a per encounter gotta blow my load immediately to equalize the battlefield is a hurdle.
Also I had a lot more fun in the game as a paladin because the roleplay is actually pretty good and having a second dedicated tank makes a lot of those early fights a lot more manageable.

Tried to do the whole defend gundrun / woods / temple without a rest but the first try with the end guy in the temple was way too much, so we rested outside.
A couple very close moments, having to wait a round before resurrecting the KC for one, who was right under the guys foot (claw?).
Final pillar broke down, the fey one, and prismatic dispel flew everywhere. Ulbrig (and, fittingly, the bad guy here also.. wonder if that was scripted) both turned into dogs. Now it's a race between those ankous ripping Ulbrig to shreds and us tearing the bad guy to shreds. I guess I could take out the ankous but that seems less kino in a way.

It was fun. The last part of the DLC had some memorable combat.

Overall, I don't know how I feel about this DLC though. I can't think of exactly much "wrong" with it, but the idea of playing through it again gives me an immediately feeling of fatigue. Some of it's due to the pickiness of certain parts, like having to go to the world map to change between day/night for the forest. Some of it's just that, even though there are some multiple things you can do, it doesn't feel that they make any kind of difference. Save the sick people or slaughter them, help the spirit-gods or don't, it doesn't amount to anything, really.
There's just something unpleasant about the tone too, I have no interest in Gundrun and even after just playing, I'm not confident I could even map it out, that's how unremarkable it is to me. I think that's just naturally what happens when you have maps only as backdrops for "points of interest." There's no feelings like: "oh that's near the house I randomly went in a month ago, and there was that whole wizard thing I got involved in"
It's just: Arrive at Point of Interest, script fires or you talk to the person or press the hand/door button. (how's that different though?)

Anyhow, I'm probably just burned out on CRPGs, especially ones I've already played.
