It has become completely typical for zoomer /chess/ players to never get high/drunk with friends while playing skittles games. Ever.
What are the implications of an entire generation of /chess/players never having fun with friends or strangers while getting toasted?
>>531636980 (OP)i will give you words of wisdom of someone obsessed with game matchmaking algorithums and leaderboards.
its all bullshit, its gay and retarded
you lose one game to some smug retard and he immediately throws 2 games he just got from you and youre stuck at that rank for 11 weeks straight, never ever conflate the purpose of the game with the rating, the rating is secondary its complete shit its all lies, once you free yourself mentally from the stress from failure you can observe patterns within yourself and your opponent, the game is secondary to the inner game of all things, how we adapt to circumstance is how we can truly win something more valuable than a score.
when you try you will get burned, never think not trying is the key its about holding onto the passion of something and being detatched from the outcome.
i have 12 years experience with glicko and elo matchmaking solo and team based, your mental fortitude is more important than any ammount of gameknowledge because stress can ruin your ability to adapt or possibly mutate your psyche into squeezing a victory from a dire situation, if youre caught in the throws of loss and youre burnt out and have zero passion, do literally anything else but try and grind for morw goodboy points.
self worth is obtained through discipline and being like water
god loves you
Lets say you are in a knockout tournament, and the opponent has already won with white, so you have to win with black, a tie means you will lose the match.
So if you are completely losing, you should offer a draw to preserve your rating, and your opponent should accept because it means he wins the match on the spot
>>531784565>What are the implications of an entire generation of /chess/players never having fun with friends or strangers while getting toasted?Reduces social cohesion which intensifies a lot of the issues of modern society from low trust, alienation, lack of camaraderie, inability to empathize, terminally online, etc

Stalemate was surely someone's idea, who always got shat on and ended up in an inferior position but couldn't handle losing.
Other than protecting the ego of such people it really makes no sense, like rule of chess is:
>Capture the king in any way but not with zugzwang, because then we'll pretend it was an equal game
Zero logic
>>531841783if your position was superior you'd be able to checkmate
so either your position is not as good as you think, or you are too bad to be able to checkmate, which one is it?
>>531841783the king can't move into check, the game ends when checkmate is delivered, if the game won't end but has begun it is called a draw (see 50-move rule).
Stalemate is more consistent with the rest of the rules than ruling "if you can't make any legal moves you lose"
>>531841783>Capture the kingThere's no such rule. Capturing the king is not a legal move.
When the game reaches a state where no legal move can be made but neither player fulfilled any win condition, the game is a draw. Simple as.
>>531841783Someone recently swindled a stalemate out of a completely losing position against you, didn't they?
We're always here to listen to you vent and help you cope. It's not your fault that you suck at chess, it's the fault of... the rules.
>>531841783Stalemate is good for the game. Stalemate rule makes endgames much richer by empowering the defending side, you don't want all k+p vs k endgames to be an automatic win for example.
Shitters not paying attention and stalemating up a queen is whatever, stalemate serves a balancing purpose.
>>531842306The later, had game winning advantage, had not much time left and since I don't practice mating patterns like some nerd I messed up
>>531842517That's basically the same as what I said. Capture it anyhow but zugzwang, the capturing part is just omitted as it's trivial
>>531636980 (OP)What type of chessboard to buy for use with chessbooks and occasional long form online games? Small or beeg? Magnetic or not?

Highly recommend the boards made out of mouse pad felt. I hate silicone and vinyl boards since they collect dust and crumbs easily and start to feel grimy after a while.

Then my team mate made the 39th move with white, thinking he had made the 40th one. He wanted to go take a smoking break, but his opponent immediately responded with his 39th move, so he played the 40th move as well and went for a smoke break. When you hit the 1200s+ then adding in an engine analysis will do you better. this guy gets it
Hans is the Dylan Klebold of chess.
>>532144859>why do you pretend every gambit is like the halloween?Because they basically are. They are known via engines that even assuming best play they suck and can be countered. So even if you played perfectly you'd lose. Assuming you play a person who knows the trap or gambit. So if you're playing them you're relying entirely on the other person not knowing it in order to win. It's just a glorified "gee wiz i hope he doesnt see this move im setting up". It's a game of perfect information. Bluffing doesn't work in chess.

>>532147582>1700 trying to be deepyou're not playing engines retard
>>532147582winning a game of chess relies on your opponent making mistakes no matter what opening you play because engines will draw every mainline
gambits let you practice attacking in unbalanced, dynamic positions and pursuing an initiative which are obviously relevant skills in chess, acting like if a game isn't 100% stockfish approved it's a disaster and useless for learning is retarded
>>5321482151700s are smarter than that, it's the 1000 poster who started the reply chain.
>>532148654completely wrong, while analysing games i have seen the engine get a move completely wrong and give white a growing advantage, mostly from the black side. >>532149153>erm ACTUALLY if you're running a web version of the engine on an AMIGA and only giving it 2 seconds to think ACTUALLY...ok reddit pedant but you know what I meant

>>532144859That guy clearly has no idea what he's talking about. He's just saying things based on misconceptions of what he thinks is the reality.
First of all, Levy is a very solid and passive player, that is one of Hikaru's key criticisms of him and why he said he won't become a GM - because when he plays GMs he doesn't try to meet them in hand-to-hand combat, he's scared of coming out of his shell. "parking the bus" to use a football analogy. GingerGM is an example of a youtuber that advocates crazy lines, though GingerGM is a boomer and it's not a zoomer thing.
As long as people aren't playing perverse stuff like the Englund I have no problem with sharp or incorrect lines, even the Halloween Gambit because you have no excuses if you can't refute the Halloween Gambit. I agree it can be annoying if the opponent makes some surprise sideline move but at the end of the day if you're playing 25 moves of book into the Ruy Lopez Chigorin and a sideline destroys you you didn't know it to begin with, you're just pretending.

Play the Italian with white and e5/d5 as black. If you want to spice things up a bit, learn the Kingโs Gambit and Scotch Gambit. Although those last two openings are inherently riskier, you get lots of piece activity and you still get other beginners out of book.
Once youโre stronger then you can experiment more with flank openings and intentionally bad openings where you need exceptional positional skills to work your way through the intentional handicap youโve given yourself.
Also, you can never study enough Paul Morphy and Capablanca games. Go to chessgames.com and play through as many as you can, preferably with a physical board in front of you

he's right that if you miss that stuff more than once in a blue moon it's pointless to practice fancy tactics but still it's clear that someone should do both easy pattern recognition training and comparatively harder calculation training, the ratio between the two depends of the level of a player I think he said as much himself
finegold like most youtubers tends to exaggerate his opinions because that's how you get traction on the internet, even here were people are supposed to be less hypersocialized and brainrotted by social media than average you have people saying fabi has no personality simply because he tries to be objective and nuanced instead of making categorical statements
>>532307776you operate under the presupposition that I am an incel. I just told you I am bad at chess and therefore not an incel. Let me extrapolate. When you nail a 5/10, wanna know what to do? Inconspicuously leave the scene of the crime and do not share what has transpired with anyone, it goes with you to the grave. Want to know what ugly retards do when they nail a 5/10? They continue to smash regularly, realize they probably cant do better, spend all of their money on dating and marriage, and subsequently ruin their life. Whats worse than doing this is ending up divorcing them at the end of the trail. This can happen, but you should at least confess your sins and learn from it. Doing it again, and then a third time, is incomprehensible. Only a vegan jew cuck who voted for obama and kamala could commit such atrocities and not feel the smallest iota of shame or embarrassment.

>>532581198No, they don't. I get almost none. Because there's no point to cheating. There's no bragging rights or leagues or rating or anything else to bother. In my experience the games are vastly better.
>>532585679>Because there's no point to cheating. There's no bragging rights or leagues or rating or anything else to bothertheres also no consequences to cheating as they wont lose their account or get in trouble with the jannies. the amount of cheaters in anon games is way higher, as well as the amount of trolls who will just abandon the game part way or make you wait out the clock
whenever I get tilted I just fire up stockfish and jump into the anon pool
>>532585902No consequences because there's no point to cheating at all in anon games. You cheat to get a high rating and show off. Nobody just boots up stockfish to be a no name beating up another no name. They'd just play the bot then.
>>532586289My favorite thing to do in the anon pool is to play bad moves until I'm down a piece or two, offer a draw, and when it inevitably gets declined I fire up stockfish to finish the game for me.
I like to really rub it in their faces that they're facing a cheater and never had a snowball's chance in hell.

the only thing I agree on with the schizos is that arenas can be sketchy
I still don't think I play that many cheaters even there but I do get the odd games that just feel funny
if you think the anon pool is full of cheaters then you're just a sore loser shitter though

>>532624658Maaaan, there is an Esserman's game where he played a crazy move, the move was Bh7, so black couldn't castle, and I remember he mentioned he lost the game because he flagged (this was a classical game he played as a teenager and was showing it to the viewers) Do you know what vid I'm talking about?

>>532644180you'd think he would get better over time just from playing. like i don't ever study anymore, just play and i still improve, albeit pretty slowly

I'm the blitz shitter with higher rapid rating, just tuning in to gloat about having won 200 points in blitz in the last couple of days so it's not that bad anymore.
I love winning so much bros...
yep, the passion has faded, i don't care enough to sit there looking at a position for more than 60 seconds, not even close.
