figuring out when to keep opposition, when to bail and go try to eat a pawn, distant opposition, flanking, trying to move order so that you have opposition. And a lot of times I can't tell if its theoretically winning losing or drawing and that makes it harder to try to find a plan. I know you can just brute force calculate but theres not always time

we used to have regular u2000 (or was it u1800 I don't remember) tournaments years ago when the team was much more active and they still didn't get much participation so making them a recurring thing isn't worthed imo
As a one off thing it could work and be fun if it's well advertised ITT
I think it would be more popular in rapid since weaker players correctly like it more than blitz

I've never really played 960 but this tournament makes me want to give it a go. Is the plan to just follow the basic principles you learn as a chessbaby in the beginning moves then start going ham on the tactics until you reach a somewhat familiar endgame? I played a few anon games on lichess and got ripped apart, but at least it didn't feel like I fucked up opening lines or whatever.

i will give you words of wisdom of someone obsessed with game matchmaking algorithums and leaderboards.

its all bullshit, its gay and retarded
you lose one game to some smug retard and he immediately throws 2 games he just got from you and youre stuck at that rank for 11 weeks straight, never ever conflate the purpose of the game with the rating, the rating is secondary its complete shit its all lies, once you free yourself mentally from the stress from failure you can observe patterns within yourself and your opponent, the game is secondary to the inner game of all things, how we adapt to circumstance is how we can truly win something more valuable than a score.

when you try you will get burned, never think not trying is the key its about holding onto the passion of something and being detatched from the outcome.

i have 12 years experience with glicko and elo matchmaking solo and team based, your mental fortitude is more important than any ammount of gameknowledge because stress can ruin your ability to adapt or possibly mutate your psyche into squeezing a victory from a dire situation, if youre caught in the throws of loss and youre burnt out and have zero passion, do literally anything else but try and grind for morw goodboy points.

self worth is obtained through discipline and being like water

god loves you

Lets say you are in a knockout tournament, and the opponent has already won with white, so you have to win with black, a tie means you will lose the match.

So if you are completely losing, you should offer a draw to preserve your rating, and your opponent should accept because it means he wins the match on the spot

Stalemate was surely someone's idea, who always got shat on and ended up in an inferior position but couldn't handle losing.
Other than protecting the ego of such people it really makes no sense, like rule of chess is:
>Capture the king in any way but not with zugzwang, because then we'll pretend it was an equal game

the king can't move into check, the game ends when checkmate is delivered, if the game won't end but has begun it is called a draw (see 50-move rule).
Stalemate is more consistent with the rest of the rules than ruling "if you can't make any legal moves you lose"

There's no such rule. Capturing the king is not a legal move.
When the game reaches a state where no legal move can be made but neither player fulfilled any win condition, the game is a draw. Simple as.

Stalemate is good for the game. Stalemate rule makes endgames much richer by empowering the defending side, you don't want all k+p vs k endgames to be an automatic win for example.
Shitters not paying attention and stalemating up a queen is whatever, stalemate serves a balancing purpose.

Pieces no but the board squares are basically invisible. Eventually I'll make a nice board, just have to set up the thiccness planer and probably get a helical cutter for it.
For now I just use the board vision -9000 glass trainer board.

Tbh I wouldn't want to open black's rook, something like f4 looking for f5 to open the file for the rook and have ng6 fork threats looks good, but I guess that you would like to kick the knight out before ng3 so bxh6 and then f4?
This trade is probably the actual reason the engine suggests that, bxh6 nf6 bg5 trade f4 etc, though I am phonefagging so idk

thank you,
00:22 is an interesting moment, black could have played nb4 removing the strong bishop from the diagonal (or blocking the a rook) and threatening the pawn on d6, but when he looked at the knight he probably only saw nxd5 which is shit because after qa4 and the exchanges d6 lives with the darksquared bishop defending it, at 00:38 nxd4 instead of qxd4 is a completely retarded move and it lost him the game

Letting the time run out without resigning.
I used to just block the opponents who did that. Then I started sending messages afterwards saying things like "good morning sir" and so on. That didn't have much of an effect. After doing that for several months, I am now sending messages to such people offering my coaching services for $60 an hour. I feel like that will get under their skin more than the Indian greetings.
Thanks for reading my blog.

That exact thing happened to two players at a league match of my team. The line for the last move in one column was not very visible, both players did not fill out the line and were very low on time. Then my team mate made the 39th move with white, thinking he had made the 40th one. He wanted to go take a smoking break, but his opponent immediately responded with his 39th move, so he played the 40th move as well and went for a smoke break. The other guy thought he had made time control and lost on time on his 40th move. If he had taken half a minute longer to play the 39th move, it would have been the other way around.

Depends if you think having the IQP will allow you to use the two (half)open files to your liking (Tarrasch) and win in the middlegame.
Or if you think playing against the IQP lets you restrain, blockade, and destroy (Nimzowitsch) and win in the endgame.

I have developed some cope: This is actually the best outcome for hans in the long term. If he won he risked becoming overconfident too early and losing his killer instinct and work ethic. Instead, he flew just close enough to the sun to know he has what it takes, theoretically, but he fell just short. This will give him assurance in his ability while still motivating him to work incessantly.

you derive too much from the result of a few games, performance fluctuates for everyone and there is variance even in chess, blundering in 2 games doesn't make you a retard just like beating a couple 2100 doesn't make you a 2100

At 1000 or below your moves are basically random anyway. You should be just using puzzles and focusing on fundamentals of theory. Like the basics. When you hit the 1200s+ then adding in an engine analysis will do you better. Because you should be ranked high enough to understand why a move you made was shit or why an engine proppses a given move or line. Most just use it like a grading system of how good or bad they did.

why do you pretend every gambit is like the halloween?do you honestly believe anyone who plays stuff say the morra and the kings gambit only does it to win with "gimmicky traps"?
past turbo shitter levels most people who play gambits do it to get fun dynamic games with active pieces and open lines because they enjoy those type of games
> you should always be playing moves that at least seem solid to you
why?again some people enjoy getting into messy complex positions and fighting it out, it's a valid strategy for amateurs especially at short tc

>why do you pretend every gambit is like the halloween?
Because they basically are. They are known via engines that even assuming best play they suck and can be countered. So even if you played perfectly you'd lose. Assuming you play a person who knows the trap or gambit. So if you're playing them you're relying entirely on the other person not knowing it in order to win. It's just a glorified "gee wiz i hope he doesnt see this move im setting up". It's a game of perfect information. Bluffing doesn't work in chess.

winning a game of chess relies on your opponent making mistakes no matter what opening you play because engines will draw every mainline
gambits let you practice attacking in unbalanced, dynamic positions and pursuing an initiative which are obviously relevant skills in chess, acting like if a game isn't 100% stockfish approved it's a disaster and useless for learning is retarded

completely wrong, while analysing games i have seen the engine get a move completely wrong and give white a growing advantage, mostly from the black side. In classical they may be fine but definitely not in shorter time controls (e.g. only 5 seconds to find a move, though this is obviously machine dependant and whatnot...), .

true, but it could be a lot worse, /chess/. imagine doing something highly creative on the tactical level and then being punished for taking the initiative which is what youโ€™re supposed to do. like any old /chess/ player webm related came up with the strong idea of carrying an antitank mine and throwing it into a trench which would be like a nuke going off. but by pure bad luck he ran into a patrolling fpv during the mine preparation.

That guy clearly has no idea what he's talking about. He's just saying things based on misconceptions of what he thinks is the reality.

First of all, Levy is a very solid and passive player, that is one of Hikaru's key criticisms of him and why he said he won't become a GM - because when he plays GMs he doesn't try to meet them in hand-to-hand combat, he's scared of coming out of his shell. "parking the bus" to use a football analogy. GingerGM is an example of a youtuber that advocates crazy lines, though GingerGM is a boomer and it's not a zoomer thing.

As long as people aren't playing perverse stuff like the Englund I have no problem with sharp or incorrect lines, even the Halloween Gambit because you have no excuses if you can't refute the Halloween Gambit. I agree it can be annoying if the opponent makes some surprise sideline move but at the end of the day if you're playing 25 moves of book into the Ruy Lopez Chigorin and a sideline destroys you you didn't know it to begin with, you're just pretending.

As much as I love the unsound openings, learn the rules before you break them

Play the Italian with white and e5/d5 as black. If you want to spice things up a bit, learn the Kingโ€™s Gambit and Scotch Gambit. Although those last two openings are inherently riskier, you get lots of piece activity and you still get other beginners out of book.

Once youโ€™re stronger then you can experiment more with flank openings and intentionally bad openings where you need exceptional positional skills to work your way through the intentional handicap youโ€™ve given yourself.

Also, you can never study enough Paul Morphy and Capablanca games. Go to chessgames.com and play through as many as you can, preferably with a physical board in front of you

this is why you should just play Chess Variants. They've already entirely solved the draw issue forever.

this sort of loss makes me go fucking insane.
OK, I did trade all of the active pieces off, so what? what was left on the board was more than enough for this absolute idiot to mess up and mess up he did! but then as i messily converted the r+r vs r+b endgame into r vs b i chose the wrong plan, black's king was able to get close to his pawns and threaten promotion while the darksquared bishop would be capturing my passer, i was supposed to pressure his pawns with my king and force his to stop my passer, obviously I thought i was just winning when i blundered the game away, playing the decisive kb7 in a couple of seconds

not really. he gave a bit more context on the hotel incident, said he was blacklisted before that already and that it was just an excuse. he called out SLCC for their hypocrisy on Ramirez. he talked about endgame.ai and what happened to GMHans.com

the vibe of the interview kind of reminded of "between two ferns" lol

nta but I watched the video the first post in the reply chain is referring to and it was early puzzle storm stuff, 4 or 5 variations of the same queen check attacking an unprotected piece in the opening idea,he was also making a point about autopiloting in the opening and genera tactical awareness but it's not relevant to this discussion
he's right that if you miss that stuff more than once in a blue moon it's pointless to practice fancy tactics but still it's clear that someone should do both easy pattern recognition training and comparatively harder calculation training, the ratio between the two depends of the level of a player I think he said as much himself
finegold like most youtubers tends to exaggerate his opinions because that's how you get traction on the internet, even here were people are supposed to be less hypersocialized and brainrotted by social media than average you have people saying fabi has no personality simply because he tries to be objective and nuanced instead of making categorical statements

you operate under the presupposition that I am an incel. I just told you I am bad at chess and therefore not an incel. Let me extrapolate. When you nail a 5/10, wanna know what to do? Inconspicuously leave the scene of the crime and do not share what has transpired with anyone, it goes with you to the grave. Want to know what ugly retards do when they nail a 5/10? They continue to smash regularly, realize they probably cant do better, spend all of their money on dating and marriage, and subsequently ruin their life. Whats worse than doing this is ending up divorcing them at the end of the trail. This can happen, but you should at least confess your sins and learn from it. Doing it again, and then a third time, is incomprehensible. Only a vegan jew cuck who voted for obama and kamala could commit such atrocities and not feel the smallest iota of shame or embarrassment.

i saw the idea of gaining a tempo but i didn't take the puzzle seriously and just played bf1 anyway

tonight i am starting to feel like this sort of "resulting position" puzzle is completely useless, in a game you are already aware of all the dynamics nonsense and these longer tactics are automatic. Anything dealing with "positional" has no place in my *tactics* routine.

seems to be because if the pawn takes the queen after the d6 square is super weak, and if rxe5 black has to sac the queen if bishop blocks the check instead its mate in 2 with nd6 then bh6

The obvious solution is to drop blitz forever and only ever play serious time controls where your decisions matter and people don't blunder. That way you won't rot your brain by reinforcing it with the idea that playing garbage and hoping your opponent plays even worse is some kind of legitimate strategy.

Much easier said than done tho. I have this same problem myself. Can't stop playing dumb speed games for the life of me. Shit's literally worse than cocaine.

Every chess site is full of cheaters. At least if you have a rating/account. Then pride comes into it a lot and people are more prone to cheating. Since deleting my accounts and only just playing as guest on various sites I'm getting way better games and play. Even hard fought ones that aren't 3 dozen shit moves and then a sudden turn arounf into Magnus Carlsen. It's such a better playing experience.

theres also no consequences to cheating as they wont lose their account or get in trouble with the jannies. the amount of cheaters in anon games is way higher, as well as the amount of trolls who will just abandon the game part way or make you wait out the clock

I still don't think I play that many cheaters even there but I do get the odd games that just feel funny
if you think the anon pool is full of cheaters then you're just a sore loser shitter though

Maaaan, there is an Esserman's game where he played a crazy move, the move was Bh7, so black couldn't castle, and I remember he mentioned he lost the game because he flagged (this was a classical game he played as a teenager and was showing it to the viewers) Do you know what vid I'm talking about?
