The Abyss 2 wheel was and still is the buggiest part of the whole game. Try seeing if it's there in the Steam version or click back into the other route and try fiddling with flags (esp. the Butch flag) to see if it changes, otherwise just blitz back up, if you're 60 it's pretty fast to steamroll

My understanding of how the system works, which could be wrong, is this:

To get the heart, you need to check 4 boxes:
1. Kill Helmut
2. Kill Octanaris or Melgina
3. Be Bronze Rank
4. ACHIEVE a trust level of roughly 2.5 pages on a 4 page character. The heart does not go away if you fall below this.

The trust level for the bondmate heart required is SLIGHTLY below the trust level required for the best dialogue. I've only run into this once on a voiced character, but I think this is why people sometimes get level 4 bondmates. To get a level 5 bondmate, you need the best dialogue, plus attach two level 5 bondmates. Of course if you're dismissing anonymous adventurers, they don't have dialogue, so I just do 5 more camp conversations after I get the heart to make sure.

The major thing is that trust doesn't seem to have BOUNDS. It can go infinitely negative or positive. And anonymous adventurers don't really give you a way to check.

This is something I think is still being explored so take it with a grain of salt.

surety tends to always roll low (1-2) when enhancing pre-acquired blessing on the gear so you'd want that initial roll of Surety to be as high as possible which is achieved by having 4 stars

Viviana's better as an off-healer IMO since Thief is a decent damage dealer, so that pretty much sets your backline. After that, there's pretty much only three characters left for the frontline, the only question is which you want to benefit from Flut's Water Formation.

I know but even if it's a non-sentry necromancer they can still take some punishment while the mages/casters we've encountered so far (coins, the mage girl and mage skelly) die to one or two hits. Succubuses and entities can take a few hits before dying though but they're still not as deceivingly tanky as the necromancer.
