Also the whole forgetting about Basil part of the plot rears its head here with everyone forgetting who the flower crown belonged to, why the basil plant reminds Aubrey of someone, or Kel trying to remember why photos mean something
I won't deny Humphrey isn't a very fun or even good dungeon especially the first time around, but it's not that bad

It's been a little under a year now, but I'm finally getting that drive of mine fixed. Or having its data transferred to another device. Contained within is all sorts of images, screenshots, txt files, and other sorts of memories over the years of /omog/. I've always had a fear of people looking at what I'm doing or having done. Now I'm wondering if all those memories might get me in trouble. I can't help but feel that my archivist tendencies are going to get me in trouble with some of the specifics I saved. Sure would suck to have my current life uprooted to some degree because of Dream Aubrey cunny. There's just enough memories and treasures in that drive for me to risk it.

I should probably start putting things behind censored text, right? I've been doing it under the assumption that anyone who hasn't finished the game would avoid places like this.

Is it just me or would Omori play out nicely as a Stephen King inspired horror game? Premise could be that Sunny a powerful child psychic that's able to manifest his imagination into the real world. All of it, including Black Space. It's really interesting how Aubrey's confession here kind of implies she really didn't try that hard to reach out for her friends. It's when she says that Hero always seemed to be busy studying. We know from what Kel said that Hero was in a depressive slump for almost a year. So either it took that long for her to try reaching out to him, she never tried prior, or maybe that's just what his parents told her when she knocked on the door. Either way...it doesn't seem like Aubrey tried that hard. The Aubrey at the end of Memory Lane says she always assumed her friends would leave her one day. So it seems like Aubrey just assumed this was that one day and grew to be upset at them. It's tragic, but also upsetting. It's upsetting how quickly they all gave up and let themselves fall apart after Mari died. Aubrey assumed they all abandoned her, Hero shut down and then started running from the memories, Basil avoided them because of what really happened, Sunny shut down because of what he did, and Kel stayed out of it all because he was afraid of making things worse. It must have crossed their minds at some point. At the swings, Aubrey admits that she always thought about being there for Sunny. But she never did. And as far as we know, none of them ever really tried.
It's been talked to death, but I'll still mention the detail of Sunny backing away after Aubrey finishes talking about why she was bullying Basil. Even if Sunny might not remember, he still knows it was him that ruined the album. This was all his fault. It's always been his fault.

I already know what's going to happen and the suspense is still killing me. Holy shit this part is and was torture even without knowing because something bad is clearly going to happen and everyone's just so ignorant of the disaster scenario that could already be waiting for them on the other side of the door. Something's clearly been up with Basil these last few days, he's been bullied for who knows how long, almost drowned the previous day, he pretty much told Kel he doesn't think we're friends anymore, he gave his photo album which meant so much to him away, we the player might have picked up on some signs and know there's more going on with Basil because of Black Space, and now he's all alone after his grandma may have died or is about to, and he isn't saying a word to his friends who are trying to talk to him. Horrific, especially with one of the ways this night can turn out.
And on a completely different note. If you turn up your audio really high, you'll notice two things about the ambience playing during this segment. It's the same weird, unknowable, still to this day unidentified singing ambience that plays in Sunny's house during the daytime. But there's also an advertisement playing in the background for some CD burning tech which is presumably coming from the TV they're watching. I think I hear a name that sounds like Packetbrain mentioned, but I think there's also a few other names the voice says. It's an odd detail.
What makes Arachnophobia my favorite of the Something design's is what inspired its look. The background is a window, but if you look closely you'll notice a tree behind it. That tree. The tree Sunny would have seen every time he looked out the window of his room. The same one Mari was hanged from. A creature suspended from a string attached to the top of it, swaying in the breeze. Sunny's fear of spiders melded with Mari's corpse from that night to create this mistake. It's great.

I woke up not that long ago from a dream of drinking lots of water to a waking world of being thirsty and my stomach hurting from hunger. I think this was the best way to experience this section again.

I remember. I never saw this scene in my own playthrough. I only found out about it a few days after when Youtube recommended me video showcasing it. This right here destroyed my soul. I still credit this moment to being what really sealed Omori into my brain forever. That's probably an exaggeration, but it really felt like the straw that broke the camels back. She was really awful to Sunny those first few days, and then his best friend killed himself because of her, and Sunny quietly joined him maybe minutes later. Kel might just blame himself for getting Sunny out of the house in the first place. And oh, poor Polly. This whole time she didn't want to force Basil to open up. Basil certainly thought he didn't deserve help or anyone to care about him, so he shut her out. She had no idea as to what his situation was, she probably didn't even know he was being bullied. She just hoped that if she tried to be there for him, or gave him some space, he'd open up on his own. And now her neglect of him let this happen. She's absolutely carrying the death of a child for the rest of her life.

Some kind of visual bug happened with the Console Content's screen border when reloading this save and it would stay as whatever the last room's border was. It fixed itself after entering Basil's room at least.
This particular line. It's appeared a few times before. At the lake when you get asked the question, it feels like his fear of drowning is what's making him second guess the choice. But here...Sunny remembers, and knows what Basil's about to do. Despite that, does he want to save Basil? After what Basil did?
Sunny killing himself is usually associated with after Basil died, but its interesting to think of a scenario where Sunny approaches Basil's door and just...decides not to save him. Willingly and knowingly leaving Basil to die. Instead of going back to sleep, he walks home. Picks up the knife, takes it to bed, stabs himself, and that's that. He simply decides Basil wasn't worth saving, and neither was he. Or maybe he doesn't pick up the knife. He wakes up the next morning and moves away after that. After what he remembered doing and what he let happen. What would be going on in the head of a Sunny that made such a choice?

One thing of note I do especially like to think about is exactly what is relationship is with Basil. Now obviously lots of people see it as romantic but in a non-romantic view I do find it interesting at how similar they both are and how they might've filled the niche for each other that they both filled for the rest of the group.
Somewhere in there. Somewhere deep in Basil's feverish, delirious mind, he believes what he did that night saved Sunny. He protected Sunny. A sentiment that was only let out in the midst of a mental breakdown four years in the making, but still there in some capacity. I believe the whole "Something behind you" idea only came to Basil after they looked back that night and saw Mari's eyes open, or maybe in conjunction with him ruining the album. A rationalization and justification for Sunny's actions. Stranger says that he did what he did to save what was left, Sunny more specifically. Basil doesn't seem like he's running from his own actions, but Sunny's. Always to protect Sunny. Some part of Basil accepts what he did and thinks it was a 'good' thing that saved Sunny, even if that action is tearing him up inside.

So they seemed to interact a lot and meshed well, or at least Basil really meshed with Sunny. It seems like this, Basil's loneliness and abandonment issues, and some other things resulted in Sunny being very important to him. And idolizing him to the point of him seeming incapable of wrongdoing. Maybe Basil's gay. At the very least he was unhealthily attached, but in an ideal world the unhealthy part wouldn't have been very apparent.
I think.
"Everything is going to be okay." These are the words Basil had been telling himself all this time to help calm down. Everything's going to be okay. According to the unused truth album text, these are also the words he told Sunny to reassure him. Everything's going to be okay. And then the two of them hanged Mari. The whole time Sunny kept repeating those words to himself. Everything is going to be okay. Everything is going to be okay. After it was all over, he knew it was never going to be okay after what they did. But Basil kept desperately holding on to those words and the hope that it could be true. The same words that he uses to calm down are words that stress out Sunny.
All of that to say that it's a really cool detail that the Energy Meter turns from a heartrate monitor into the words "Everything is going to be okay" the closer it gets to 10.

I have an older sister and I honestly kind of wish she was more like Mari. She was incredibly bossy and would yell at me and hit me for the most minor things. She also constantly made me get things for her like food, clothes, her phone, etc. and I always hated myself for never being able to stand up to her. I guess she'd feel bad and we'd hug and she'd constantly tell me how much she loved me but it always felt hollow and eventually I stopped feeling anything when we hugged. She would apoligize and break down sometimes about how she was a horrible person and how I deserved a better sister and while she did change for the better in certain ways she still made me get stuff for her constantly and she'd get really mad at me if I ever displayed any sort of "attitude" so I feel like she never truly respected me or loved me
I honestly just can't help but feel sad when I play Omori because Mari reminds me so much of her yet she's so completely different.

I don't think it helped that she was significantly older than I was. But it wasn't all bad. I kind of wish I tried harder to keep in contact with her, then and now.

I don't think she ever truly grew out of thinking that we were both kids and so she continued to treat me like she did when I was 10 and just never stopped. I remember feeling really angry at my parents around 15-16 because I felt like they just let her get away with it. I always try to be nice and kind to young kids because I always felt that when I was their age that everyone older than me just had it out for me for no apparent reason and I don't want them to grow up thinking that other people can't be trusted. If I do ever have kids I'll try to teach the oldest to treat his younger siblings with care and not as personal servants or pin cushions.
