The old runes actually meant you could have variety in tearms of pre-game preparation. It served its purpose and masteries (which were also present at the same time!) gave more unique boosts in tearms of gameplay.

being ahead now just gives more advantages that compound on each other. being up on levels gives you stronger runes, often 30-50 damage from rune procs just by a single level. items get massively stronger as you gain levels instead of being simple numbers. the mythic system made it so having more items also made your mythic item even stronger. dragons provide permanent damage. grubs provide permanent damage vs structures. flowers and atakhans provide permanent damage. being ahead means you're going to be in better positions to get these extra stats and just makes the game miserable because when you're ahead you have to fill all these checklist items, and when you're behind you can't ever catch up to a team which now has an additional 5-10k gold in hidden stats.

despite all of these extra things though, the matter of fact is that the game is still "the same", it's just...muddled. it's not fun, it's too much shit added on, layer by layer, for the sake of complexity.

Why is league voice for honor lvl 5 players still not a thing?
If it was for everyone, I'd get it, but I think it's safe to say that a honor lvl 5 player has enough restraint not to call anyone a nigger (even if you really, really want to) and it would make games so much more easier for everyone.
It's not like they'd have trouble with moderating it anyway. They did it in valorant and although that turned into an eboy/egirl shitfest, league would probably not have this problem (just mute a girl if you see she's in voice, ez).
The ONLY issue with this I can see is that it would bring in another variable to pre-lost games.
Enemy team has three smurfs? Manageable.
They have better draft? We can play around that.
We have a downie on top? Just play for bot.
They have five honor lvl 5s and are therefore perma on comms? Yeah, go next.
