He apparently failed, partially merging and almost becoming a beast. But that failure wasn't meaningless.
He still got the power he wanted, and judging by how he was smart enough to comatose himself before losing his mind and becoming a foreign entity, and also by how he willingly became both a magical power source and central processing unit for a skyscraper full of magicians for multiple decades... this probably was a self fulfilling prophecy, but at least a decent one since he still successfully passed the torch to others.
I still don't know what to think about Augoeides however, and if he also foresaw the "World of Prophecy" lore... but I think he did more than Endymion could ever hope to.

Most of the time when examining a set, I look at the archetypes supported and if none interest me, basically the entire set is worthless. I will not want random packfiller that can't hold up to archetypal cards.
The MOST I would care about are the low-print generic staple cards that might get thrown in, but by virtue of being low-print it makes opening boxes not viable.
Can't do Draft with the boxes either because most cards end up reading like

This is something I really hate. Some OTS locals are autistic and try and force sealed/draft sneak peaks, it's miserable. Gotta pull whatever the biggest beater that can be NS'd in the set is or it's over. Vanquish Soul has what you'd consider to be 3 amazing cards and if you pull a single one, it's worse than a vanilla. No way to SS Sue, no applicable cards for Start, no way to summon Rocks. You want one of your Supers to be a useless Yuma syllable monster to be used as a beater (if you're lucky to pull two of them, you can make Magnum Excalibur and probably win the duel). Every trap is archetypial or a high rarity one that's impossible to utilize within the set's confines (Trap Holic). If you pulled Gold Leo you couldn't even utilize the low rarity core around it, Liger Dancer is unsummonable even if Poly was in the set lmao. Same deal with Striker Link 2 and Lemnisgate. Too many examples to count and that's just DUAD.

In Japan a box is like £35. That's not breaking the bank, that's a nice number that hobbiests will see and just pick up one or two to open for fun. The value inside the box does not NEED to equal your money back btw, this fucking game shouldn't be an investment like it currently is that people are constantly thinking how to make their money back, it's a hobby, it's a money sink like all hobbies. I'd love to buy some boxes and open them but I'm not paying £70-80 per box when the archetypes I need NEED playsets of secrets.

If YGO is undraftable then the best solution is just to remove randomness. A box of any set has 3 copies of every card inside its packs, meaning that you can buy a box and get everything you and your friends want out of the box, makes the game cheap and accessible

A solid series to entice and create new players and fans, alongside a real full series dedicated to lore stories to create new fans of cards and archetypes who might not play but will buy their favorites. Optionally, a series dedicated more towards "real" duels but unlike OCG stories can actually result in new cards more often for featured archetypes.
The larger point is, the anime was always a crucial gateway that became neglected and something needs to replace it for the real card game.
Also, "condition" new people coming in to understand what hand traps and such are. You can't give them false ideas of setting a face down monster and it being fine. Even these stylized games need to give people proper expectations that the game is complicated.
-More support for older archetypes to bring things up to modern speed. Also an acceptance that retrains are a must for some cards than expecting the deck to just be entirely outdated monster lines with choke points on one new card. If you won't errata cards to increase their power level, it needs to be retrained. The point here is, people don't just want to play new decks, they want to play THEIR deck so neet them half way and give them new tools.
-Sets also get 1 special chase card, which is a full art and rarer than any starlight. But its for classic popular cards like BEWD, DMG, etc at first. This gives people the chase and will help move priduct. Let the big spenders whale for super high rarities but let people be able to play.

Non tuners would be a start (Flame Crime helps but I havent played with it much recently so I can't say how good it is in practice), but I think something for Nib defense is best.
