Knowing Konami's actual potential speed, a card can go from concept to being printed in packs VERY quickly. Denial Deity Dotan being a blantant Elden Ring DLC reference to the final boss of that, released a few months after the DLC dropped is pretty fucking quick (DLC dropped June 21st 2024, Dotan was in ROTA in October 10th the same year so a little under 4 months), considering they'd need to conceptualize the card, get an artist to draw it, get it approved, then it get fully printed and distributed.
Even considering the over 2 month delay for BLMM in EU because of "clumping", its reasonable to assume that's how long it takes to get the various printing companies to print their shit. So you have to assume that a similar timeframe has to be taken out of the process for making Dotan too.
Which means someone in either the TCG or OCG played the Elden Ring DLC, liked it so much they wanted to make a card for it, and got it so fast-tracked that it appeared ASAP

I want to start going to locals but I dont know what deck to build.
My heart is telling me Monarchs but after like half a decade of playing almost nothing but that I feel a bit tired of it even with the new support and I cant seem to find 3x of Tenacity anywhere.
My brain and wallet are telling me Cyberdark Dragon because I have 99% of the deck already finished and only need a few cards and staples but Cydra is lame.
I've been playing Springans on Master Duel and EDOPro but ever since Champion Sargas the deck has been extremely linear and boring comboslop I vastly preferred my shitty Branded Fusion build from years ago but its garbage in comparison and I would feel bad playing that.
What do I build? Have they released any decks since 2022 that are relatively cheap, aren't cute anime girls and can be decent without cramming in 5 million engines? Or should I just embrace the comfort of familiarity and buy Monarchs?
I have an Ancient Gear core and a Dark World core as well, should I test out either of those?? Yes I'm aware none of these decks will be winning consistently spare me the in le current meta talk I just wanna have a hobby and maybe make some more greasy friends with similar interests.

not even slightly true. in terms of type support, it's definitely in the top 10, possibly even top 5. it's got better type support than some of the most common types, namely spellcaster. there's a reason that stormwinds is the only banned barrier statue, and it's not because being locked into only wind is that much worse than any other attribute. and if we're talking competitive success instead of type support, it's still had a pretty decent track record. not one of the best, but far from the worst.

The actual worst type in the game is Fish if we exclude the made-to-be-trash Divine attributes. Fishborg blaster is the only time a fish card was good. Everyone talks about Snake Rain being potentialman as fuck but nobody mentions that fish have a card that is a +4 upon resolving, has existed for so fucking long yet it amounts to nothing.
Aqua has Frogs which are more infamous and Sea-Serpent is mermail atlanteans, who are able bodied to give everyone major rape

I was thinking about buying and playing physical cardboard.
But then I heard 7 different cases in multiple different carboard games where someone damaged or did shit to another person's card, including 2 different accounts (though one was from a reddit post, and the other from a tweet) of people literally unironically "eating" their opponent's cards for a deck check.
Also, imagine using a card that takes control of an opponent's monster/creature, and then quickly damaging the sleeve/card while the opponent's not paying attention and calling a judge for cheating.
I think I'm going to stick to emulators.
