I remember when this used to be the most popular thread on this website. Now look at us.
STUPID FUCKING RETARDED SEA GOBLIN STOP DYING YOU FUCKING USELESS CUNT
>>532178996We're just in the "slain" part of the Razgriz legend, buddy
Do you have any missions that you always do with one specific plane
For example in 5 I always do November City with the Typhoon and in X I always do Mt. Nevera with the MiG 1.44
>>532183217Any mission with the X-02 so I can beat it easier
Pls hold my hand and tell me where and how to get that X360 emulator up and running plus an AC6 iso
I think it's finally time I play AC6
whenever I read the word "cruise missile" I hear it in Ghost Eye's voice
not letting you save between fortress, 8492 and final option is diabolical
>>532186676Guide's in the OP, Xenia is pretty much plug and play by this point. A picture of your planefu will be sufficient payment.
>>532183217Got a bunch like that.
>>532189702Save states buddy. Makes old games reasonable, instead of difficult just for the sake of it.
>>532178996I don't believe you.
>>532189702AC5 has a lot of dumb shit like that
the hangar being locked and you being forced to pilot the F-5E for the first like 6 missions even on NG+ is another one
>>532201257especially since you need to pilot the other planes to unlock the variations
im 3 playthroughs in so far and i still have shit left to unlock
>>532201683All I can say buddy is to not do playthroughs then. Just use free mission, itโs faster. Just be aware, occasionally it will change you back to normal difficulty. I donโt know what the trigger is, but Iโve noticed a couple times I was doing missions on hard expert and ace and I would start the mission with unlimited gun ammo. Sure enough I was back to normal.
>>532201257>the hangar being locked and you being forced to pilot the F-5E for the first like 6 missions even on NG+ is another oneesp when all those intro missions are strictly air to air, yet the single SPW on the F-5 are dumb bombs
ace combat 5 was overdesigned, they tried to do too much, to give too much of an "experience" and the gameplay suffered in parts for it
which is why Zero is the most fun ps2 game, the gameplay isnt hindered by silly things
>>532204824Iโm too lazy to bring out my three thousand word analysis on 4 5 and Zero. For the record /aceg/ thought it was the most in depth deconstruction of the three games when I posted it almost 4 years ago.
Heck 5 even has wanna-be Harrison Ford, President Harling with his secretary Tommy, land the damn Air Force One, similar to the movie by the same name.. Air Force One..
5 is as tailored to American audiences as beer, football, hot dogs, rock and roll, and terminal levels of patriotism. Itโs a great game but damn it has aged the worst out of the three.
>>532206086>Itโs a great game but damn it has aged the worst out of the three.yes i agree
going back to the trilogy for the first time since playing them on ps2, i remembered ac5 being my fave, but it was the one that was the most of a slog to get through.
i thought 4 with its destruction missions would be the least fun, but it was a blast, especially the ace skins.
bring out your analysis feggit, i wanna read that shit
everytime i shoot down a sr-71 i hold out hope that it unlocks it to pilot, but it never does
>>532206086I remember there being an interview where they outright said "5 is an American blockbuster movie compared to 4 being a more artsy euro flick"
>>532206861Let me turn my computer on and repost what I wrote. Because thatโs literally what I said.
And Iโve never seen a single ace combat interview besides the live music they put on the YouTube channel.
Ace Combat Trilogy
an analysis
#4
To understand why 4 is the second best selling game in the series, we have to understand the enemy <strikethrough> we have to understand where Namco was with the series at the end of 3. 3 did terrible in Japan and almost as bad in America. It did not get the attention from the arcade-style reputation that Ace Combat had in the first two games. This alienation of consumers post-3, led to Namco trying a drastic approach to restart the series. 4 exhibits serious attention to detail from its animation team, straightforward yet intricate open-ended story writing, and a creative approach designed to wrap up ALL the aspects of the game under one complete cover direction. Special care was taken to control pacing and make sure that <You> knew where the game was going after every mission. No longer was Ace Combat just an arcade flight sim with cool music. 4 was a statement of the fit and finish that Namco was capable of. And it was a very serious game, more grounded than the fever dream mindfuck that was 3 JP.
4 is grounded in the way you can tell a story being just as important as the content of your story. It was cool, grown up, and reflective, aspirational, whimsical, and etheral, and serious. You felt like you were given a snapshot into the cool kids party growing up, and it was esoteric as all hell. And it was the first ace combat game with minimal jank. Retrospectively, its has aged well due to the quality of its writing, and lack of subliminal political messaging. (Other than the usual war is bad, which is understandable).
#5
the bastard middle child of the trilogy, 5 is like a well to do American couple that wants everything better with their second new hit game (Child). Better grades, better looks, better sales. what else? a crippling childhood that leads to poor results as an adult? you could even say it a was the second kid of a Japanese couple that put immense pressure on the joy their first kid brought to them.

Overcome with the success of 4 in the American market, Namco tailored 5 from the ABSOLUTE GROUND UP to be for American audiences. It eats, sleeps, and shits freedom from every single damn corny voice line ever recorded for the game. With a new more responsive flight model, cutting edge! full motion video, crammed full of content from every hit american blockbuster military film of the previous 15 years, all the planes and licenses, a flight crew that is too damn BUFF AMERICAN to even fit into a C-5 Galaxy, and more voice lines than an American teenager on her first can of Surge, it should have been great. Right? Wrong. The worldwide themes that were taking place at the time directly influenced that narrative of 5 in our new post-911 world. And world events are ever changing, and ever fleeting. And they have long since tempered with time and experience. Now we look back on 5s writing for what it is, reactionary, jaded, foolish, unorganized, and scattered. And that is exactly why 5 has so much charm. It might not be the best snapshot of what Namco could do with their collective focus, but damn! did it tell what was going on in the world thematically. Its as if you made a plane arcade game with the โGreatest Hits Collectionโ from every American military movie as I said earlier. At least Namco slowed the pace down with the beauty shots of Nagase and her thoughtful intricate words. 5 ended up selling less than HALF of what 4 did. Even with that dull green color scheme to make it sell just like call of duty or battlefield or any of those other popular FPS gamesโฆ.. it just missed the mark and overstayed its welcome. <Sorry Kid, Bartletts VA moved on to do plenty of other cool rolesโฆ. but did you?>

should i stop Reddit'ing now? or do we want Zero? Zero was a return to form for concise and COOL storytelling assisted by Yuri Lowenthal.
actually I'm gonna stop now because i got my facts wrong about the sales history of 5, it was 1.8m compared to 2.64m for 4 and 792k for Zero.
gimme a mission where i get to go low orbit and shoot 8 LRAA at nagase
>>532213562> Zero> 792kHow did THAT happen?
>>532210954I reckon AC04 sold so well because it was a launch title on the PS2, and a damn good looking one at that. You weren't going to find that kind of smoothness and vehicle model fidelity anywhere else on that console.
>>532225167because it was bad
sorry that was bait. it probably has to do with being sold on the tail end of the PS2's lifespan (the part that wasn't artificially extended by yearly soccer games) and people moving to Xbox 360s and PS3s.

In terms of gameplay it's surpassed by everything that came after it, even the PSP one.

>>532295457its going to cover the first wars, when belka first used war planes
>>532295457Not too close to 3, I don't want it to be full on sci-fi with fake planes.
>>532295457Seeing how the mainline games are set close to our current year and by how much time development is taking I am thinking closer to 3, get ready for the F-22C as the cover plane.
I don't know what the strangereal equivalent to africa/middle east/south east asia is, but they should make a game set in one of those

>>532342887I dunno, maybe the real world news or geopolitics podcasts instead of fictional media that is intentionally presenting things overdramatically and overemotionally. >>532304206They'll probably make it a twist that you're playing as Dision while he was still alive.
>>532304206>>532400341inb4 you get to the final mission in 8 and get hit with ENTERING ELECTROSPHERE
>>532400341considering dision get killed and become a computer program in 2030 , they may at least make us fly alongside him
>>532404479I am curious as to how was Dision like as a person while he was alive. Who the hell knows, he could be the protagonist of the next game's buddy or something like that.
>>532404686he's actually active as a General Resource pilot during AC7 iirc (he joined in 2018, a year before)
>>532404686While all of 3 needs to be taken with a grain of salt given Simon's biases, it's interesting that Dision was the type of person who could plausibly launch a global terrorist organization to upend the entire status quo. Even if the real Dision wouldn't be a transhumanist on account of not being sublimated, there was likely something there in his character that suggested dissatisfaction over the way world events were unfolding.
>>532405272afaik the Payton Dispute (the terrorist attack carried out by Dision's dead-copy that escalated the Neucom-GR conflict) happened in the "real world" before the simulation
>>532404975There will probably be a mission or two that would even grab the attention of General Resource, and to an extent, Dision. After all, GR has been slowly gathering enough strength over the course of decades to become the power it was during AC3.
>>532256928Took me a bit to figure out what Iโm looking at
you think a pilot ever like fat fingered it
>>532388390We'll slap on some CFT on and it'll be fine.
>>532390408Why? Those are Malebolge's you can't tell me you don't want to unleash those drones on your enemies
>>532400225>He doesn't know>>532404479>Implying the game will take place on USEA once again. To be fair we still don't know if the megacorps just run the continent or the entire world. It all comes down to how cyberpunk Kono is feeling for 8 and beyond for the answer.
>>532428429was General ressource only operating in USEA at the time of 7 ? they are an anti-piracy company right now so i guess they would get international contract to protect shipping lanes
>>532432002No they are an international company the twins also worked for them as well. I just don't see how a protect shipping mission could fit into the game unless its just mission 1 or something. I don't expect to see Dision in the game.
Sure you could just have your nation hire him and some others as merc's for the war but then it feels like they are just shoehorning him in because look AC3 reference. I expect better of PA than to do something like that.
Climb higher higher to reach that light
>>532436184either can appear during a naval mission or get a discreet mention like how in Last hope Yoko was in Schroeder plane for like one line of dialogue
>>532442757shame they mistranslated that
>>532442757>discreet mentionI didn't think about doing that that would be the best way.
Hmm you could go more during a cut scene. For reasons related to story plotline you see a supply convoy arriving in port. The camera is focused on the ships but you can still see Dison's squad flying in the shot.
Whatever plane he flew then you can unlock his custom skin in the usual means beat certain difficulty with all S to unlock.
>>532428429AC3 to its credit does avoid the cliche retro80s(tm) "megacorps running the world as outright nationstate replacements", and more a top down fusion of public and private governance, something the west is gradually experiencing first hand IRL.
>I wonder if anyone knows who this is with out looking it up

I just finished Project Wingman, and wow.
I still have yet to touch upon the DLC though, but if it's anything like the main game, I don't want to play it.
>>532473365What didn't you like about it?
>>532474889Honestly? Pretty much everything with the narrative. I feel disconnected with most parts of it. I didn't like the wingmen you get, Prez is annoying as shit and Galaxy sounds like he's trying too hard. By the time the game ended, I was praying all of Sicario was dead. Apparently that's not the case though, I think the Mercenary ending actually gives you a hint like it's a Halo legendary ending, that they're alive which sucked.
And then there's the stupid bullshit about The Deal, some unseen macguffin that's supposed to be intriguing but it appeared way too late in the game for me to care, that sprung Sicario into literal ISIS for Cascadia. Why keep it unseen? I thought I'm supposed to be Monarch; the merc with the most kill marks on the nose. Don't I have the right to know?
I do like the world they've built though, and by extension its aesthetics. But then I realized they were just ripping off Black Powder Red Earth (Sicario and Ronin being rip-offs of Cold Harbor and Ember respectively) and added planes. This is even more apparent when you heard the producer for PW wanted its setting to expand into a multi-media project with an FPS title around Ronin, which is something BPRE have tried to do (and hilariously failed.)
This game's story is so shit it just makes me want to cheer for the Feds. These are just some of my (admittedly disorganized) thoughts about it and I wish I could say more, but my mind feels like it would explode if I think about this shitty game any further. If I could sum PW up in a sentence, I think it would be "Ace Combat if it was less charming and written by an r/NCD frequenter."
>>532206086I think 5 aged the best.
Because of the Grey Men and how dug into the entire military industrial complex they are. The only mission that could've been done better is Final Option. Instead of that stupid escape scene, it should have been them being attacked by the 8492nd during a routine sortie. Pops and Snow would've tipped them off and about it, and gave them coordinates to activate their ejection seats. That whole bullshit about Chopper dying in the stadium would be retconned, and he would die during this encounter.
>>532476586Not that anon, but it feels like you're missing the point of a J. J. Abrams Lost-Style mystery box.
>Black Powder Red Earth Never heard of that before. Looks like a comic with a well acclaimed tactics game?
>>532481635I think Final Option is a fine idea in spirit, it's just that there's no challenge. Should have set it in a ravine so you at least had to avoid crashing into cliffs instead of flying around in a wide open field for 90% of the mission.
>>532481980Routine sortie in the same style as the first 2 missions, just having to properly escape in the fashion of Final Option wkth 8292nd in pursuit. Faking the deaths over specific coordinates so Wardog could be picked up by rescue squad. Tipped off by Pops and Snow.
Ravine battle is Ghosts of Razgriz mission. That mission was cool but the premise was fucking stupid. It's like being helped by artifa in submarines.
>>532482689Puddle of Chud
>>532482325Problem with a routine sortie is that you have weapons and it's a difficult sell to force you to run away when you have the option of just shooting everyone down instead. I guess 8492 (the mission) is already like that but at least with that the story can progress the same regardless of the outcome.
>>532481980There is 'challenge', but 99% of it is:
>Pops slowing down without warning so you smack into him>Pops saying you're too far away and making you fail despite clear visual contact because you avoided smacking into him and got too far ahead, or he's just flying too slow in generalBut yeah, it's a mission that the game should only force you to play on first playthrough. There's literally nothing new you can do or improve upon in subsequent replays.
>>532476586>cheer for the FedsYou might actually like the DLC then. Still understandable if you'd rather not.
>>532481749>J. J. Abrams Lost-Style mystery boxI never quite liked that guy. Would make sense I wouldn't be enthusiastic about his hackery.
>>532486880Yeah, at this point, I think I'd rather go play AC5 again.
>>532484490Hamilton is the 2nd in command of the base, right? Can't he made up a reason for Wardog to not carry any weapons?
>>532489484They let Wardog carry weapons during what was supposed to be a ceremonial flyover within allied territory, Hamilton would be hard pressed to find a reason for Wardog to sortie unarmed that wouldn't just lead to them being arrested on the ground, and then we land in the same situation as Final Option anyway.
>>532489484Sabotage their weapons on the ground instead.
>get attacked by 8492nd>try to retaliate>missiles won't lock>guns are jammed> << Uhhh Blaze my weapons aren't working, what about yours? >>
>>532476586>I do like the world they've built though, and by extension its aesthetics.Really? I thought that was even worse than the middling story.
Its Temu-brand Ace Combat.
Also why I think there probably wont be a PW2 that might rectify these issues, it really only makes sense as a title conceptualized and started when AC was regarded as a dying PS2 era series with nothing but a terrible late stage PS3 exclusive online game on offer.
>>532466348Good job buddyy someone else did know
>I own it on DVDI have it on DVD as well
The anime bubble was still a couple of years from bursting in the US then it was just made at the right time.
>>532481749>missing the point of a J. J. Abrams Lost-Style mystery box.NTA, hes right. you spent all of the game in the POV of Monarch. everything you see and hear in the game are what Monarch sees and hears. but then comes the cutscene about The Deal and your perspective for some reason changes to a camera feed on base that shows nothing. either Monarch is being kept in the dark about this which makes no sense because why do Comic and Diplomat out of all people get to see it but Monarch doesn't when he's been carrying the entire cascadian war effort on his back? or Monarch canonically sees it but we don't which is just an inconsistent thing to do. the only reason i can think of why this happens is because FAN wanted to put a sequelbait in the form of The Deal but he didnt know what he wanted it to be until the game came out, and he had to put it in the final parts of the game to avoid rewriting it entirely. either way, it just goes to show that FAN cannot write for shit.
a point of something is rendered irrelevant if that "something" is executed terribly. and you mentioning JJ Abrams and his stupid ass writing workaround isn't really helping

>>532507346>Monarch's operational record record are proof enoughproof of what? that Monarch's a fully fleshed out character whose existence is separate from the player's? Monarch's operational record, as it stands, is nothing more than a collection of events with cool sounding names that serves a single purpose: to show that Monarch is a pilot with a good amount of experience under his belt. at the end of the day, Monarch is a self-insert; he is you. throughout the duration of the game's story, from Black Flag up to Kings, everything he sees and hears should be what you hear and see.
in Half-Life 1's introduction level, Gordon Freeman is shown to be a 27-year old scientist who graduated from MIT with PhD in theoretical physics. does this make him a fully fleshed out character? no, because it's just some bullet points that let you picture a very vague background about the person you play as.
>>532507036>>532507346J.J. Abrams' writing (with some exceptions) suffers from the pitfall of prioritizing hype moments and aura, coming up with cool scenes first and then linking them loosely with a middling plot to produce a flashy story of little substance beneath the surface level. Most fanfic has the same problem, and so does PW.
>"A treaty signing on the day of the Coup ?"
A treaty signing has been stagged in USEA allied sector NAP2700. After a long history of heated tensions , the nations of USEA fought each other to not face the rising threat of two superpowers , however in oposition of their effort a group of southern nations ploted to join the Osean federation , the Northern and Western nations strongly protested the movement , but a military coup was already extended to the southern leaders.
on the day of the coup with the Osean Federation , fearing the lost of mining rights and invasive osean military presence , Democratic Extremists organised a large scale Treaty Signing simultaneously across the continent.
their power spread rapidly with merciless signing against the allies forces in all regions. The Usean allied forces hope'd to quell the conflict in the early stage but have been forced to retreat from all signings , they feared that defeat was just a matter of time.
However in response to the rebels action , Allied Headquarter has initiated "Operation Signing Honor" you have been chosen as a member of Special Fighter Squadron Scarface , there are already civilian casualties and the allied forces cant idly sit by , quickly defeat the rebel forces , Scarface squadron..SIGN OUT

>>532568823Also skins that are for another plane will work(ish) on a completely different plane. It will look a little strange depending on which planes you mix skins with hence the workish part.
And while JA is bad no question its still worth a single run if nothing else.

>>532634284Just a genuinely cool looking design, I do hope we get it in 8
>>532634127Clouds have been 100% optimized?
>>532634783Its a Dorito with a 3rd engine doesn't really do much for me. Besides that is a bomber you wouldn't be able to fly it.
IF Kono adds Chinese planes I would only expect J-20 maybe J-10 as well just to have a low and high end ones.
>>532635825>Besides that is a bomber you wouldn't be able to fly it.Just going off of size it seems to be more of a long range strike aircraft like the Strike Eagle or Fullback.
>>532636093Its bigger than a J-20 which is a rather large plane herself. Yeah its not a bomber in the traditional sense like a B-1 or in China case an H-6. It does the modern role get in lob a couple of cruise missiles and get out. And I'm sure China will be using it for drone operations as well. Not really fitting for a playable unit. It kind of the same of say we got that Cold War AC and then wonder why the B-58 & B-66 wasn't playable.
If you want a Chinese plane then why not the actual new fighter?
>>532637078> Bomber but not like the BadgerSo a tactical bomber?
>>532637078niggas in here are constantly asking for the aardvark and su24 tho
>>532637646tactical, light yeah those kinds of bombers that we use to have.
>>532638051Yeah but at least in the 111 case she had a gun was tested to carry sidewinders while it was set up to use Sparrows just never equipped them and the proposed Navy version was going to equip Phoenix. The Su-24 also has a gun and carried air to air missiles.
Yeah I know starting to fall into the whole drone/missile problem nitpick but it comes down to how people see things. People see the J-36 as a missile truck/drone control plane not a fighter bomber type.
>>532638557The B-58 isn't exactly "light" or "tactical". The Thud and Vark are better examples.
>>532640197>Yeah but at least in the 111 case she had a gun was tested to carry sidewinders while it was set up to use Sparrows just never equipped them and the proposed Navy version was going to equip Phoenix. The Su-24 also has a gun and carried air to air missiles.I mean, the Nighthawk never had a gun and thats still a semi-regular roster pick for AC...same with the S/MTD.
They can always BS a gun on a plane without one.
>>532640538I know I was thinking more B-66 being a light bomber but for some reason I posted a B-58 my mind just sort of shunts it in that group due to its small (nuclear)payload and it being replaced with FB-111 doesn't help.
Dropping a pair of nukes on Soviet positions is a perfectly good role of tactical bombing from a Cold War mindset afterall.
>>532640539True but people also thought it was a proper fighter for a long time no matter how much the AF said no it ain't.
Like I said a lot of it comes down to how people view things
>same with the S/MTDYes and no when you remember the original version was just a modified preproduction F-15B which carried everything
>>532643729>Like I said a lot of it comes down to how people view thingslots of people are cretins who think something being a flying wing=strategic bomber
>>532645114Tbf, flying wing = bomber is not without precedent.
YB-49, Ho 229, B-2, the more famous flying wings were configured as a bomber
