All I can say buddy is to not do playthroughs then. Just use free mission, it’s faster. Just be aware, occasionally it will change you back to normal difficulty. I don’t know what the trigger is, but I’ve noticed a couple times I was doing missions on hard expert and ace and I would start the mission with unlimited gun ammo. Sure enough I was back to normal.

ace combat 5 was overdesigned, they tried to do too much, to give too much of an "experience" and the gameplay suffered in parts for it

I’m too lazy to bring out my three thousand word analysis on 4 5 and Zero. For the record /aceg/ thought it was the most in depth deconstruction of the three games when I posted it almost 4 years ago.

Heck 5 even has wanna-be Harrison Ford, President Harling with his secretary Tommy, land the damn Air Force One, similar to the movie by the same name.. Air Force One..

5 is as tailored to American audiences as beer, football, hot dogs, rock and roll, and terminal levels of patriotism. It’s a great game but damn it has aged the worst out of the three.

yes i agree
going back to the trilogy for the first time since playing them on ps2, i remembered ac5 being my fave, but it was the one that was the most of a slog to get through.
i thought 4 with its destruction missions would be the least fun, but it was a blast, especially the ace skins.

Ace Combat Trilogy
an analysis

#4
To understand why 4 is the second best selling game in the series, we have to understand the enemy we have to understand where Namco was with the series at the end of 3. 3 did terrible in Japan and almost as bad in America. It did not get the attention from the arcade-style reputation that Ace Combat had in the first two games. This alienation of consumers post-3, led to Namco trying a drastic approach to restart the series. 4 exhibits serious attention to detail from its animation team, straightforward yet intricate open-ended story writing, and a creative approach designed to wrap up ALL the aspects of the game under one complete cover direction. Special care was taken to control pacing and make sure that knew where the game was going after every mission. No longer was Ace Combat just an arcade flight sim with cool music. 4 was a statement of the fit and finish that Namco was capable of. And it was a very serious game, more grounded than the fever dream mindfuck that was 3 JP.
4 is grounded in the way you can tell a story being just as important as the content of your story. It was cool, grown up, and reflective, aspirational, whimsical, and etheral, and serious. You felt like you were given a snapshot into the cool kids party growing up, and it was esoteric as all hell. And it was the first ace combat game with minimal jank. Retrospectively, its has aged well due to the quality of its writing, and lack of subliminal political messaging. (Other than the usual war is bad, which is understandable).

#5
the bastard middle child of the trilogy, 5 is like a well to do American couple that wants everything better with their second new hit game (Child). Better grades, better looks, better sales. what else? a crippling childhood that leads to poor results as an adult? you could even say it a was the second kid of a Japanese couple that put immense pressure on the joy their first kid brought to them.
Anonymous No.532211660

Overcome with the success of 4 in the American market, Namco tailored 5 from the ABSOLUTE GROUND UP to be for American audiences. It eats, sleeps, and shits freedom from every single damn corny voice line ever recorded for the game. With a new more responsive flight model, cutting edge! full motion video, crammed full of content from every hit american blockbuster military film of the previous 15 years, all the planes and licenses, a flight crew that is too damn BUFF AMERICAN to even fit into a C-5 Galaxy, and more voice lines than an American teenager on her first can of Surge, it should have been great. Right? Wrong. The worldwide themes that were taking place at the time directly influenced that narrative of 5 in our new post-911 world. And world events are ever changing, and ever fleeting. And they have long since tempered with time and experience. Now we look back on 5s writing for what it is, reactionary, jaded, foolish, unorganized, and scattered. And that is exactly why 5 has so much charm. It might not be the best snapshot of what Namco could do with their collective focus, but damn! did it tell what was going on in the world thematically. Its as if you made a plane arcade game with the β€œGreatest Hits Collection” from every American military movie as I said earlier. At least Namco slowed the pace down with the beauty shots of Nagase and her thoughtful intricate words. 5 ended up selling less than HALF of what 4 did. Even with that dull green color scheme to make it sell just like call of duty or battlefield or any of those other popular FPS games….. it just missed the mark and overstayed its welcome.

All you had to do was put Bartlett front and center on the cover. That's what happens when you try so hard to emulate what is selling good in a foreign country without understanding the minds of the kids who were buying the games in that time.

No they are an international company the twins also worked for them as well. I just don't see how a protect shipping mission could fit into the game unless its just mission 1 or something. I don't expect to see Dision in the game.
Sure you could just have your nation hire him and some others as merc's for the war but then it feels like they are just shoehorning him in because look AC3 reference. I expect better of PA than to do something like that.

Hmm you could go more during a cut scene. For reasons related to story plotline you see a supply convoy arriving in port. The camera is focused on the ships but you can still see Dison's squad flying in the shot.

Honestly? Pretty much everything with the narrative. I feel disconnected with most parts of it. I didn't like the wingmen you get, Prez is annoying as shit and Galaxy sounds like he's trying too hard. By the time the game ended, I was praying all of Sicario was dead. Apparently that's not the case though, I think the Mercenary ending actually gives you a hint like it's a Halo legendary ending, that they're alive which sucked.

And then there's the stupid bullshit about The Deal, some unseen macguffin that's supposed to be intriguing but it appeared way too late in the game for me to care, that sprung Sicario into literal ISIS for Cascadia. Why keep it unseen? I thought I'm supposed to be Monarch; the merc with the most kill marks on the nose. Don't I have the right to know?

I do like the world they've built though, and by extension its aesthetics. But then I realized they were just ripping off Black Powder Red Earth (Sicario and Ronin being rip-offs of Cold Harbor and Ember respectively) and added planes. This is even more apparent when you heard the producer for PW wanted its setting to expand into a multi-media project with an FPS title around Ronin, which is something BPRE have tried to do (and hilariously failed.)

This game's story is so shit it just makes me want to cheer for the Feds. These are just some of my (admittedly disorganized) thoughts about it and I wish I could say more, but my mind feels like it would explode if I think about this shitty game any further. If I could sum PW up in a sentence, I think it would be "Ace Combat if it was less charming and written by an r/NCD frequenter."

I think 5 aged the best.
Because of the Grey Men and how dug into the entire military industrial complex they are. The only mission that could've been done better is Final Option. Instead of that stupid escape scene, it should have been them being attacked by the 8492nd during a routine sortie. Pops and Snow would've tipped them off and about it, and gave them coordinates to activate their ejection seats. That whole bullshit about Chopper dying in the stadium would be retconned, and he would die during this encounter.

>Pops saying you're too far away and making you fail despite clear visual contact because you avoided smacking into him and got too far ahead, or he's just flying too slow in general
But yeah, it's a mission that the game should only force you to play on first playthrough. There's literally nothing new you can do or improve upon in subsequent replays.

NTA, hes right. you spent all of the game in the POV of Monarch. everything you see and hear in the game are what Monarch sees and hears. but then comes the cutscene about The Deal and your perspective for some reason changes to a camera feed on base that shows nothing. either Monarch is being kept in the dark about this which makes no sense because why do Comic and Diplomat out of all people get to see it but Monarch doesn't when he's been carrying the entire cascadian war effort on his back? or Monarch canonically sees it but we don't which is just an inconsistent thing to do. the only reason i can think of why this happens is because FAN wanted to put a sequelbait in the form of The Deal but he didnt know what he wanted it to be until the game came out, and he had to put it in the final parts of the game to avoid rewriting it entirely. either way, it just goes to show that FAN cannot write for shit.

proof of what? that Monarch's a fully fleshed out character whose existence is separate from the player's? Monarch's operational record, as it stands, is nothing more than a collection of events with cool sounding names that serves a single purpose: to show that Monarch is a pilot with a good amount of experience under his belt. at the end of the day, Monarch is a self-insert; he is you. throughout the duration of the game's story, from Black Flag up to Kings, everything he sees and hears should be what you hear and see.

in Half-Life 1's introduction level, Gordon Freeman is shown to be a 27-year old scientist who graduated from MIT with PhD in theoretical physics. does this make him a fully fleshed out character? no, because it's just some bullet points that let you picture a very vague background about the person you play as.

on the day of the coup with the Osean Federation , fearing the lost of mining rights and invasive osean military presence , Democratic Extremists organised a large scale Treaty Signing simultaneously across the continent.
their power spread rapidly with merciless signing against the allies forces in all regions. The Usean allied forces hope'd to quell the conflict in the early stage but have been forced to retreat from all signings , they feared that defeat was just a matter of time.

It does the modern role get in lob a couple of cruise missiles and get out. And I'm sure China will be using it for drone operations as well. Not really fitting for a playable unit. The Hustler had a medium to large nuclear payload of 1 W39/B53, or 4 B43s/B61s. It was also exclusively operated by SAC, so it wouldn't have been used in a tactical role either. Nuking battlefield positions would have been the domain of smaller contemporary aircraft such as the F-84F. It's true that the F-111 was supposed to replace it, but the specific variant proposed for its role (FB-111A) was an enlarged version tailored to the strategic bombing role. The B-58 itself was also intended to replace the B-47, which was also a long-range strategic bomber meant to nuke Soviet cities.

First Choppers gear down bug still exist on the defend Sand Island mission
Second Belkan YF-23's still attack you after the mission complete box appears

They didn't fix any minor bugs in the PS4 port they just upscaled it, cleaned it up and called it done.

No they don't crash they run if you don't shoot them down. They become targets you can shoot down in the last ~minute of the mission before the Yellows arrive. They will take off and head in the direction you spawn from. If you don't get them before the mission update happens you can still shoot them down but they lack target boxes at this point. But they will still count as kills at the end of mission if you get them after the update.

I use F-22 a lot on that mission so what I like to do is save a PGM and fly over as soon as they become targets dropping it in the center of the group and it kills them even if they are in the air. As the game counts PGM's as UGBL in damage range

As soon as you fire pull up fast the missile won't track but you'll still hear and see the warning.

*Unless it decides to turn into a QAAM that will chase you for the entire mission and always flying around you in circles until it hits you or you finish the level which ever comes first note this only happens on hard

Yeah do the same as SAMs but instead of pulling straight up you want to pull up and turn at the same time. It won't work 100% of the time but it drops AA hit rate down to like 10%
You have a more room for error here like you can fire and turn before you pass over the gun or pull up and turn after you fly over the gun.
Also a few of the AA guns that sit on something can't point guns down so you can fly low & shoot them at any speed and they can't hit you. But again that only works on the very very few AA guns they placed higher up.

Not ok I'm adding them more a wow I'm popular people are asking me to put them in the game. Hell the USAF demo team even sent Kono a tweet not long after saying we wanna do the game cover image for you.

>Russia
Who has been the villain in western media & culture longer than anyone on 4chan has been alive. The Russian's have been playing the bad guys in western media since the early 1950's Kind of went along nicely with that whole Cold War thing we had going just as long. Not having Russian people & gear in the villain roles would be strange and bizarre to everyone. Plus they don't throw a fit when you cast them as the bad guys. China on the other hand has spent years throwing fits at the most dumbest pettiest of shit.

If your expecting a roster of Chinese planes as big the Russian set is your nuts. IF and I repeat IF Kono decides to add some at best you'll get J-20 and maybe J-10 for a low end option and that's it.

supreme merc is as trivial as supreme knight, you don't need to actually destroy every yellow target in the game, you can get the bar a good chunk of the way to the left in like the third or fourth mission and then you just keep it there.
just drop FAEBs onto directus and hoffnung and whatnot and you're good.
supreme soldier is, however, cancer since you have to perform a constant balancing act that is further complicated by enemies randomly turning yellow (neutralized) in-mission so you can't rely on the briefing's yellow tgt numbers to make things easier.

As this is the 2nd time I have ever got them and I see why you need to leave a plane or two alive to not end the first half of the mission until at least one of your ships passes under the bridge. Then uncommon lines appear if you listen closely to the radio chatter you'll hear the nurse and doctor talking shortly after you shoot down the first two A-6's but those lines will never be subbed its audio only and very easy to miss.

Also have to appreciate how even a screwball comedy back then could get access to a bunch of actual flying aircraft. My dad's particularly fond of the Gnat, so its starring role was a treat for him. 7's MP can be quite enjoyable, but it's highly contingent on players not using shitter tactics like swapping to EML/QAAM, or calling friends on you because they can't beat you 1v1. It doesn't help that the game lacks an in-game block list, so you can't auto kick known cheaters or players you already know are going to act like dickheads.

See, that's the thing. All enemy aces during B7R break through comes in a squadron of eight. Even if they can be shot down with one AA missile or small machine gun burst (say, 1.5 sec), that fight would still take the majority of Cipher's munitions.

Battlefield 6 dropped a gameplay trailer today. It looks like the most 6/10 game ever, however the F-22 and SU-57 are in it, and for some reason an F-16 with conformal fuel tanks is the ground attack jet to go alongside the F-22. No idea what the other side has paired with the Felon, probably an SU-34. Although a datamine from an old alpha earlier this year found a Gripen.

I just find the way planes are represented in games that aren't focused on aerial combat to be interesting.

Felon is indeed paired up with Gripen. REDFOR for BF6 is mercslop called Pax Armata, apparently some NATO countries breakaway from the alliance and fund a PMC to replace their armed forces, so I guess they bought Felons and Gripens?
I mean the game looks fun but DICE are cowards for not introducing a proper REDFOR. It's not like political instability has stopped them in the past. Still, at least it looks like they're aren't going to the COD route for cosmetics, so I guess I gotta count my blessings.

I don't mind the mercenary angle desu. It's just that having the story framed as this world-war type war, of which this mercenary group is the one calling the shots to such an extent is silly.

Also, I think they could've continued the Bad Company storyline, considering the cliffhanger and the mercenary focus, instead of whatever they're doing now.

To be fair they were shrouded in mystery at one point. A private contractor for Russia, calling their members 'musicians' like something out of an action flick. Deployed in Ukraine, Syria, Mali, and other African nations; practically controlled a huge part of those countries, doing shady shit here and there. Like it or not, they certainly piqued a lot of interest. The 2018 air strike demystified them, but the ideation still persists. It took until the mess that is the Ukraine war from 2022 to really switch the opinion on them for what they truly are.

Well for what little the story in Battlefield matters, this seems like a new storyline entirely. 2042 is a direct continuation of Battlefield 4's campaign, but aside from the pre-order bonus being the main character from 4's campaign, it seems entirelt disconnected. I have a weird fondness for BF3 and 4's campaigns, they're like shitty direct-to-Netflix war movies and the 3rd one had that awesome Hornet level or Ziggas in Paris trying to stop a nuke.
>>533467287
Shooters have been using these kind of fictional factions for a while now sadly and the invasion of Ukraine made everyone even more chickenshit. As an example MW2019 had you play as SAS, US Marines, and a Team Rainbow knockoff one side; the other side was FSB Spetznaz, a PMC, and a well funded African/Middle Eastern militia. Then the next MW game had you play as a nondescript Western task force or a nondescript Eastern merc group. But it's not just pussyfooting around politics though, most shooters for the past ten years only have two factions for some reason.

Within 60-90 minutes from Seattle you've got a submarine base, carrier base + shipyard, naval ammunition base, marine base, army base, air force base. My conspiracy is that the anti-nuclear/anti-military sentiment is at least partially funded by the huge corporations over there; Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, Starbucks/etc. can always point at Sailor Timmy and Grunt Joey being obnoxiously retarded while on liberty to deflect attention from whatever bullshit they're trying to pull this week.
