this whole time I had this idea in my head that the campaign doesn't really kick off until I've completely liberated the entire Empire and therefore couldn't really properly enjoy myself until it was done, but I've realized that liberating the Empire IS the campaign. In a way it's not too different from wh2 abusing deadzones and expending ammo/winds->retreat/repeat, but on the other end of the sucks scale.

How do I play as Chaos? The first 20 turns go mediocre, then I bite more than I can chew because I have fucking marauders on any army that isn't Archaon's (who isn't using high tier stuff either) and then I get raped and my campaign ends while I say to myself next time for sure.
>>532434748Which LL? Post army, campaign map, experiences etc. And marauders are basically just chaff for any LL, Archaon doesn't make them particularly good or so. They're there to absorb damage and the lucky ones get to be upgraded eventually. I recommend getting some marauder horsemen, they're nice to micro about at the start of battles to whittle down, scout, and waste enemy time.

>>532422436There's numerous problems with sieges but the most relevant to your post is that the game is biased to make you the attacker in 99% of situations. The cowardly pussy shit AI doesn't even attack you without an overwhelming advantage so even if sieges are designed to be blissfully fun as a defender against an equal force, it will never EVER come up in campaign. So the defensive buffs are nearly always irrelevant for the player, even if they fixed everything (except the campaign level AI) defending sieges will never be fun, because it's always your shitty garrison with an irrelevant spellcaster and shit like chariots, clanrats, and swordsmen vs 3+ stacks, and holding an army in a settlement makes the battles cramped plus you're paying for an army to do nothing if it's just defending (with some exceptions, of course). If you turn every settlement into an unassailable bastion, the player is going to burn out so much faster because every conquest is now shackled to waiting for 2 turns of replenishment and an annoying 40 minute battle. If you turn the settlements into cotton candy worthless shit, someone will bitch that they couldn't hold it. The biggest blackpill is that nothing will change from this siege rework, there are much bigger problems with pathfinding, gatebugs, capture points, etc. Breaching the walls should happen in the first like 40% of a siege battle, but once you breach the walls the battle is more like 80% over. Auto-resolve is kind of a problem since offensive sieges are super punishing for what can be easy victories, and taking an autoresolve L on defense is the right answer 99% of the time.

Take the free gift units the chaos dudes give you, the hellcannon early on is super useful. Money is irrelevant, everything is irrelevant, just go kill shit and take dark fortresses
at that point you just fight everything in sight and subjugate/raze and take all the dark fortresses, you'll have the chaos NATO and friends and they can win the game for you

Be sure to check recruitment in each province you can each turn, even if you don't own the province. For example in the aforementioned campaign I had a couple of armies roaming around to pick up good units (e.g. giant, manticore, aspirings) from neighbours and owned territory to just feed into Archaon's army. Always have maximum gifts up, too, Archaon's soul income is insane and you can afford to keep all slots filled permanently.
Who specifically declares war on you each time that isn't obvious (e.g. Boris will declare war on you)? I find Archaon campaigns early game are samey, it's up to me to make them different (e.g. going South instead).

If you mean single entity monsters or lords on fast movers I just tested them in a custom battle,19 of them (rank 0)against an empire lord on a pegasus, a relatively fast and small unit I'm sure you'll agree, around 17 got to fire, of those there were with missiles 5 and 7, around 10 hits and the rest seemed to be on their way to impact him but he died before that. Of course that's too many missiles but the point was illustrating their hit rate was alright.

Naggarond is insanely strong with -25% upkeep on basic troops like sharts, coupled with the tech buffs and inherent reduction in upkeep cost on blarks lets you get shart stacks out sacking and earning you slaves and money, for almost no upkeep, much earlier. With enough slaves and cash you can take settlements and slam them up to t5 in a handful of turns, so you can really quickly paint the map if you please later on. There's no more cheese with stacking all slaves into one province anymore, that got poached by the chorfs, so masters can go into your armies now, and they're pretty good. Assassins are still much better on the map than in armies imo, but I've gotten decent use out of them in battles before too. I'd probably recommend Naggarond, think his campaign is the most fun and stays fun, just have to solve his first conundrum with Grombrindal and Valkia, and then you can raid the world or capture Ulthuan or both.

The game moves too fast, hope the siege rework is just one step in an effort to make it slower. I remember back when they said the game was about building tall instead of wide. That was somehwat true for less than a year because low attention span tik tok niggers ruin everything and map painters simply had to beg and beg and beg for the game to be easier for their playstyle. Long answer: I'm obviously having a much easier time than on release, and although Nkari+Skarsbrand both got 4 souls before me they were kind enough to show up late for the finale and give me time to get the Slaanesh soul. If I had to go for another 25 turns of defending Malakai from all 3 chaos dwarves and my northern border from demons I would have gone insane.

Assume I'm playing a race without buffs to razing. If my movement allows, why would I raze instead of sack + occupy + abandon settlement? Both end up with same result (razed town) but sacking nets both a lot more money and a tick of replenishment. The only edge case I can see is if you have stronger enemy army juuust barely within attack range so razing lets you retreat but being in a city wont. It just seems very suboptimal to raze most of the time.

Well, we after all this time, we have finally saved comrade Bear and brought peace and prosperity back to the Motherland. After nearly four weeks of struggles, the shit starting economy, the absurd design of Tzeentch and Slaanesh realms, was it worth it?
Yes. This is the first time I played a Good side campaign that I felt had actual stakes. I had to save what was left of the Empire, Ostland, before Festus, Vlad and Skragg destroyed it forever. I had to sally out east and save the last remnants of the Dawi from the relentless onslaught of their chaos counterparts. And all the while searching for the keys to save Ursun in the realms of chaos, I held the bulwark against relentless tides of their most dangerous warriors and most horrifying daemons spilling out from the wastes. All of this I did, because it was the will of my Queen and for the good of the Motherland.
And I'm never fucking doing that shit again. Time for Repantsu.

just the first siege of the campaign so it was pretty easy, but it did feel different with more of a focus on using siege equipment than before

Early game is fine with chariots, but midgame is just couple Monstrous Infantry and one (1) Tomb Scorpion per capital settlement. Then fucking nothing until late endgame when 40 turns later you suddenly get 3 t5 SEMs per capital, multiple of which come active within couple turn range because 3/4 settlement provinces catched up to 2 settlement Khemri province. Within couple turns you're rolling with 10-15 t5 SEMs, invalidating most of the challenge.
The power balance is just fucked. Turns 1-25 pretty good, 25-80 boring slog, then 80+ absolute steamroll with nothing inbetween but waiting for End Turn. A lot of this would be fixed simply by letting Scorpion building to be built into minor settlements (and maybe have it give 2 capacity to compensate for WH3 powercreep) and Hierotitan being dropped to T4. Now you have T1 with chariots, T2 brings Ushabti, T3 your first weakest SEMs, T4 Hierotitans (a reason to use them!) and finally as a powerbump t5 gives two SEMs.

Before you completely shelve that campaign, you should create a 4 ironbreakers + 6 strelts + 6 armoured kossars + 1 ice witch Lord + 1 tempest witch hero + 1 lore of hags hagwitch army. Tempest has a aoe range buff spell and hags has a aoe ranged damage buff spell. This creates the best gunline army in the game.

Sieges do now seem much more weighted towards the defender. Maybe not Attila level but the combination of ladders + towers being much more powerful with shorter range is very nice. What remains to be seen is if the AI can handle it or if cities will become basically a free defense.

I dont know how things will turn out when I fight real enemies, but so far Repanse vs undead on small unit size does have a bit of that Dark Omen feel. The only issue is compared to Dark Omen, my missile units are complete trash so I have to rely on the old hammer and anvil all the time.
Also yeah Repanse and Henry are kind of busted, I wonder if I should have a full paladin stack going into lategame.
I hope that the guy who made Chaos Warriors of Khorne into a tier 0 unit is having a great time.
