Read the General problems FAQ before asking questions. If you still need help, post your specs (HWiNFO screenshot), OS, emulator version number and details of what's wrong.
Please contribute to the wiki if you discover any inaccuracies or have relevant information to append.

READ THE WIKI BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS LIKE:
>Where do I get games
OR
>What is the best emulator for...

Check out the wiki for the emulator you're using if you run into trouble, there may be a solution there too, often including recommendations for optimal game settings.

Yep, there's an MMC5 conversion that works perfectly on accurate emulators and comes with all the stars on the title screen. I've compiled it myself for convenience.

>Kinda find All-Stars aesthetic and instruments wack.
Can't completely satisfy your needs on the sound front, but someone made a graphics hack that changes all the sprites to be more faithful to their NES counterparts.

and fyi, the MouseWare driver is superior to PS2rate via 86box/PCem because at least in my experience, 1/3 times PS2rate will initialize on startup and make the mouse move erratically until a reboot. It also doesn't require anything to be scheduled at startup.

The tranny-devved PCem is only like 20% faster than 86Box, which, while significant, is still too slow for usable Pentium II emulation for most people, and part of that speed boost is just due to the fact that it's less accurate, in some cases deliberately for the purposes of greater speed.
That said, I wonder if they can't just take Xemu's CPU emulation code or something. That emulates a 733 MHz PIII, and that doesn't run too bad, does it?

One way or another, whoever they need to get, I'm tired of how slow it is. It's still a great program and the UX changes are welcome and meaningful, but still. Yeah I have no idea how Xemu is as fast as it is, as I don't think the Celeron or P3 or whatever in it is instruction-compromised or anything. It's the most stock thing about the console.

It's funny, I've used QEMU for PowerPC Apple emulation (ISHYGDDT, it sucks) but never for PC emulation. Partially because it's such an unwieldy motherfucker and there are other, presumably better emulators. On a reasonably modern PC, say, a Zen 2 or better, what guest can you hope to get from it CPU/GPU wise? Anyone mess with it much?

According to the 86Box guys, QEMU only emulates a generic x86 CPU, not specific Intel or AMD chips or whatever, so I'm guessing that's not useful for what 86Box tries to do. If this is what Xemu's code is based on, then I guess that's a no-go.

Indeed. The best we can maybe hope for is for the dynarec to reach PCem levels of speed, and nice as that would be, it's still not going to be enough for Pentium III, let alone 2000's era hardware. Virtualization and compatibility layers focused on support for that era of games is pretty much the path forward.

Seems to be more that the cutscenes side of things causes issues and it would certainly be easier to make a comapt layer then trying to emulate older hardware.

The problem isn't the workaround to play or run the software during that era. The problem is we're still dependent on either obsolete, abandoned Type-2 hypervisor software (if you ignore QEMU-KVM GPU Passthrough or ESXi solutions) or WoW64, and I really don't trust its closed-source nature of that (and Microsoft). I think we need a custom QEMU + virtual GPU adapter all-in-one solution with a simple interface/GUI. Wrappers and perhaps these projects could help idk;

Find a second hand Dell, HP, or Lenovo business desktop and throw an SSD (if it doesn't already have one) and 1060 into it, thirdiefren. You'd be surprised how far $100-150 can go. Maybe you're just testing whatever you found at your grandma's house or on the curb, though. You're probably just gonna have to use an older version of PCSX2 and keep your expectations low.

Yeah, I saw that five minutes ago. It's a drop in the ocean when you consider how many lives come and go, but still, rest in peace. We pray God judges with justice.

Yeah, it should be plenty. That card still punches above its weight.

Every pixel should be even. Look at the text in particular. What was your method of shading it? Within the emulator/Retroarch or an external process like ReShade or ShaderGlass? I could help, maybe.

Hmm, no. It sucks. When I use a sharp pass first it clearly misaligns the scanlines. So yeah, fuck Matt.

It does in the normal bilinear pass too, it's just less obvious.

I wonder why he doesn't just merge in LibraShaders like Ares. This is a solved problem.
