Depending on how brutal they went towards the minos during the invasion, GV might even have joined up with them. GV absolutely despises Sumeragi at the start of GV2, and a society where adepts get their rights would have its appeal. Once he's under the Eden umbrella, he'd be really weak to getting love bombed by the G7. Most of them are already pretty likable and personable, are orphans with fucked up pasts like him, not to mention the family vibe that Eden has that would hook him and make him blind to the more fucked up aspects of their movement.

MM has a fairly interesting setting and overarching plot, too. What's missing is that the side characters are not that charismatic in the mainline and X series. Actually, one of the weaknesses of GV compared to MM is that it's always killing off or offscreening its side cast every game. MM had a rotating cast of characters, both allies and enemies. GV's characters are more interesting and fun for how briefly we know them, but always end up dead a minute after their introduction. I think this is why iX2 and GV3's characters were lackluster, because INTI blew their load on character design and personalities in the first three games.

Saying that, MML still BTFO of Gunvolt from a plot, setting, and character angle. Sure, MML characters aren't all that complex, but they're written well for their roles, are very fun, and get a satisfying amount of screen time and even story arcs.

I find that the most charismatic side characters (to me, at least) get killed off or don't appear after their first appearance/used often. So platformer MM is similar to GV in that regard. I think Classic definitely has something there with Blues, Bass, Roll and King each of them alone blow the X cast out of the water.

In a way, Zonda is a lot more merciful than the Chinese, Russians, and French.
