I hope this game has a rugpull in store for me because it feels like Kojima made the perfect Covid-core/2020s Liberal worldview game a year before Covid. Is Kojima a shitlib?
>>532666803 (OP)Kojima has been preaching for the death of the US since MGS2. I don't give a fuck about what he says in any of his interviews; the Japanese soul wants to see us burn out - or take us down with them. DS2 is a reenactment of post-nuclear/ww2 rebuilding and minor redemption, so he sees some light at the end of the tunnel. Covid had -repeat- NOTHING to do with it, concept having started in 2016
>haven't played vidya since the gc-ps2-xbox gen
>wanna catch up on the great game stories since
>but don't want to actually play them, too much time and effort
>just wanna watch playthroughs with all cutscenes to for 'movies'
>ive done it with the entire metal gear solid series, albeit several years ago
>also did it with the batman arkham game series - hardly riveting storytelling but fun enough because who doesnt like batman?
>...
>make thread on /v/ yesterday asking for recommendations for more games to 'watch' like this
>got no good recs
>decide fuck it i'll check out death stranding, i know it's kojima and i enjoyed the mgs series overall (although 4 and 5 really did drag on at times and silly japanese autism made the storyline ridiculous at times)
>don't wanna miss anything so choose the director's cut
>and choose the longest playthrough i can find
>start watching
I am 4 hours into a 27 hour playthrough and I am absolutely fucking bored out of my mind. Is it ever gonna get good? MGS 5 in particular dragged gameplay-wise but at least it had an interesting story premise that hooked me at the beginning and kept me going (plus the overall lore of the series as context). This hasn't been interesting at all, not even the cutscenes heavily driving the story. What led to the state of the world depicted hasn't been properly explained yet, every character is unsympathetic and boring, and what they have revealed about at least the current state of game world has also been boring as fuck. I don't give a fuck about the mission (expanding the network). There's nothing in the lore as of yet to keep me going through watching the mind-numbing long monotonous gameplay of traversing through those hills and delivering package after package to these various outposts.
Will a shorter version (cutscenes only, there are videos around 11 hours long) be interesting enough to keep watching? Or is the whole story just boring too and I should ditch it now?
>>532691308The gameplay is legitimately good, and I am being kept guessing. However, if they're playing it completely straight I'm going to fucking kill myself due to disappointment.
>>532693857>>532691308The caveat is that I actually really like going on hikes, and the gameplay is really zen. I like logistics and whatnot in games so this is scratching that autism itch. I think that it would be excruciating to WATCH someone play it thoughbeit, you should watch a compilation of story scenes instead. Lots of storytelling in the codex and whatnot that you fill out by leveling up NPC outposts.
>>532693857dude doing the playthrough just gets one mission, heads straight there, delivers it, then gets a new package to do it all over again :|
