Sonic X was my first exposure to Modern Sonic as a kid. I'd watch it on TVs during Saturday mornings, and I'd watch those old AMVs of it on Youtube. It's what got me into Sonic's universe, especially the Adventure era. By the time I was old enough to start exploring other Sonic media, it was already 2012, and so the things I liked about Sonic were gone. It makes me sad that it will never be this bold again. They'll never put in blatant shipbait like Tailsmo again, they'll never put in adult humor again, they'll never have the characters die again, Amy will never be crazy again. The stuff in X would get people canceling it on social media if it came out today. It makes me sad. Everything is so fake and boring and watered down and romanceless. It's magic love potion nonsense, not date rape brain washing. Chris and Cream and those aliens all reacted to it like it was just romantic and sweet or whatever.
Either way, X Amy is not the same as the actual game canon Amy. Amy in Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2 and especially Sonic Heroes is never anything like X!Amy, because X!Amy's entire personality outright removes core aspects of Amy's behavior to make her more like a bratty angry anime tsundere trope, and to make Cream look sweeter and nicer by comparison by forcing Amy to be as aggressive and temperamental and frustratingly frustrated as possible.
If there's any opportunity to make Amy look bad, Sonic X takes it without hesitation because it thinks it's funny. Yet at the same time, they also double down on Sonic actually liking Amy back "since forever", and that confession scene happened long before this magic potion episode.
When anybody says Sonic X gets the character's right, they are ONLY talking about Sonic. Because Sonic Team only focused on Sonic's characterization, not anybody else's. Even then, X!Sonic is OOC sometimes because he's way too chill even for him. But regardless, Sonic's side of the Sonamy dynamic is intact but Amy's side is butchered beyond belief because X!Amy IS NOT AMY.
But still, the point is that this magic potion stuff was not intended to be anything close to rape or outright brainwashing. Especially since the previous season's finale already confirmed that Sonic does like Amy back, he said that straight to her face. BUT, the problem there was... that was supposed to be a SERIES finale. But because a new season was commissioned, they had to basically reset the Sonamy dynamic to keep the chase going all over again.
Which is why Amy does the potion stuff. Sonic confessed, but went back to his usual antics, so Amy was frustrated and pent up over it.

Imagine if the love of your love proclaimed that they 100% loved you back and always have.... And then basically just treated you the same way they always have, never actively engaged in anything romantic with you, and always avoided the subject entirely. That's basically what Amy experiences in Sonic X and it's all played for laughs. And Amy, being a young girl who likes mystical stuff, jumps at the chance to use a magic love spell thing from this alien planet. And, also, just as a reminder, these aliens told her about it. They gave her the spell, they told her how to use it, they were in full support of this. When Cream and Chris found out, they also were in full support of this, they saw nothing wrong with any of this. The episode does not frame any of this as rape. It's all played for laughs and as genuine romance.
It is not, at all, comparable to that Sonic short about chloroform or whatever the heck. But it's also not accurate to the true, actual Amy Rose either either way. Because, meanwhile... with the REAL Amy Rose... She has outright, officially stated that she has no intention on being a burden on Sonic. She wants to watch him run free, and catch up if she has to.
Amy loves Sonic's freedom, Amy loves who Sonic is, and wouldn't change that for the world. But Amy isn't even herself in Sonic X, it should not AT ALL be used as a reference point for her character.

A character generally meant to be Amy-like, as a pink girl character who is meant to be "lovable" and pure of heart and stuff and she has magic love powers as well. Like an aura of love around her that makes you feel like you're on cloud nine just be being around her. And a plot point I've had in mind for many years is her basically using these powers to play cupid because she thinks another character, who claims not to want a girlfriend or anything romance related at all in his life, should have a girlfriend despite what he directly tells her to her face and so she uses these magic love powers to make a bazillion girls all fall in love with him and chase after him despite how much he did not want to ever be in that sort of situation.
That whole scenario is just meant to be funny, and at the guy's expense, but it is not at all meant to be synonymous with "Rape" in any way at all, whatsoever. The girl in question is, as I've previously described, pure-hearted and an embodiment of love and stuff, and thinks like Amy. The real Amy, from the classic games and adventure games and Heroes.
I bring this up because that episode of Sonic X is inherently built in the same kind of mindset I had for my own idea, and "Rape" is not at all the intention or what's implied.
Tails and Cosmo were destined to fall in love, it's all about fate. Previous episodes foreshadowed them together
