I've already talked about how OMORI puts no effort into making Mari's death be felt by the player via the inclusion of small details, but now that I think of it, the best example of this would be Hero's side of the room he shares with Kel.

Pretty much every detail we can get from his side only emphasizes the traits of his basic archetype. He has an alarm clock because he's Responsible. His bed is perfectly-made because he's just so 'Perfect'. He has accolades up the wazoo because he's 'The Ace'.
There is nothing related to his girlfriend.
We don't get an opportunity to, say, go through his drawers while neither he nor Kel are looking. There's no Mari-related paraphernalia that'd show how close they were - a cookbook she gifted him for one of his birthdays, a ridiculously cheesy love letter he wrote as a teen but never had the courage to give to her, stuff of that sort. Of course we get the game saying that they're "a match made in heaven" via Basil's photo album, but that amounts to nothing due to the lack of substance such small details could provide.
For a game ostensibly all about the impact you leave on people, those people don't seem to have left much of an impact on each other. oh but sure tell me how real the characters feel. have i mentioned this game took 6 years? i will not stop mentioning this game took 6 years

It's been ages since I've read TSIASS, but I remember loathing Aubrey's depiction in that story. To be fair, I did kind of misread a few things about that fic involving Aubrey which clouded my view of her. Mainly that I thought she had gone back to bullying Basil again which she didn't. I just vaguely remember that the biggest thing I took issue with is that it felt the fic took Aubrey's biggest flaw in Omori, her being hypocritical, and turned it up to an unbearable point. And sweeping the bad things she did in Omori under the rug. But I'd definitely need to read the fic again to pinpoint where and why. Which I probably won't anytime soon.
