In general, when it says that the required level is anything up to 80, it isn't that hard, but it may have special conditions that make it hard.
If the required level is 81, it may be relatively hard, unless there are buffs or stuff to help you.
If the required level is 85 unless there are buffs to help you, you better have a strategy to cheese the stuff because the difficulty will be ridiculous to win with normal methods. (Or at least it was in the past, now with stronger characters and the reforge system, it may not be so absurd.)

What should I spend my battle medals on, just save up until I can finish a good gold set like embrace of the dead when I have two pieces from farming third level stage?

It's gonna take a bit to get enough Embrace of the Dead for everyone. But there are some other cbs that you can get from other parts of the shop that are better than Embrace but are more specific, and you can only get 1 copy of them.

Hope and Tuning Zero are basically the only non-limited A/B-rank CBs that see a lot of use. Also Final Prologue and In Host's Name are good for healers and tanks respectively if you want to increase their healing and tanking capabilities, but often you want to slap utility CBs on these sinners instead. Shackles of Life is a good cheap crit set but again there are better alternatives later on.

I've been trying different combinations with a mix of Che, Hecate, Sumire, Jane, Emp, Pepper, Demolia, Levy, Joan, Letta and Luvia Ray
I think the best luck I had was Demolia to tank boss, Luvia ray to keep Demolia topped up a bit through the frequent ultimate uses, Che for damage and blocking the adds, Letta to try and keep everyone alive and then hecate and joan to try and burst the adds (all level 40 except letta who's 35, all p2 except Joan)
I wonder if playing Letta better will make the difference because I didn't fully understand her ability yet
Tried again just now and got further but I didn't have enough HP on Che to block the second add enough and then everything went to hell as Letta got grasped a second time

While I appreciate 0,5x speed, I really would like 0,125x speed. Sometimes you have to change all characters from position almost at the same time, and ults that have a very short period have synergy with each other, making so that closest you activate them, the more effective they are, and sometimes that difference is quite a lot. Not to mention stuff that you have to keep looking at the timer.

what kinda (more common) units should I be looking at for mania? There seem to be so many units that it appears vastly different from other stages I've done and jasmine ends up doing like 60% of the damage on my team
