Okay DERQ3 impressions so far. I can understand that Arata is either brainwashed or this is a copy of him since the song of the trailer is named ''Over my Dead Copy''. Similar to Mary Skelter, the trailers tend to have spoilers of some sort to the game even if not necessarily in the lyrics (MS2's lyrics are all about witches casting spells, but the spoiler is on the images displayed like the sequence of characters, the clock ticking backwards)
Regardless one thing I missed a lot in DERQ1 was that Arata had an avatar of his own but he never used it, being relegated to the Enigma avatar with admin privileges. That was better in the long run specially since Shina and the rest of the girls could fight so the admin privileges were a bigger difference. I still felt this was something that could be explored. DERQ2 is even worse because nobody's powers matter in the story as if combat doesn't exist at all. They could slay a monster that spews fire and in the next moment get overpowered by cultists.
Whether this is his avatar being used or not, it shows he is a force to be reckoned with the hacking of reality and manipulation of bugs to the point he assumes an instance similar to Ripuka in DERQ1 as an unbeatable foe laughing mad and trivializing the party opening the prologue beating the main heroines of the 3 entries as if they are nothing.

Chapter 1 finally fucking brings the Ludens back that we got nothing in since DERQ1. We know DERQ2 had to happen before the final degradation of DERQ1 but Jesus. They introduced the trio and did barely anything with them including Alice.
Alice now teases us with the differences in clothes, with multiple worlds, placement in memories and a Luden she extracted the memories of. This gives heavy foreshadowing what has happened and is going on either setting DERQ3 as a separate worldline or the most recent degradation so far. The God of Death is actually acknowledged with more frequency now too and more present, and flip flopping between what happens changes Alice's clothes with her teasing on the reason. Again feels purposeful, whether there being two Alices (Over my Dead Copy) or being in two different points in time. The pink girl later named Sayaka is yet to get a personality but we get a glimpse on her battle lust. With a red weapon and being a Luden, it narrows down the possibilities.
I have to say I preferred the setup of DERQ1, but it's a matter of taste in this case with DERQ3 bothering to introduce the cast one by one from the Strain Area to the physical world. Meeting Shina who seems to know much than she lets on including of the girl she names Sayaka after reminiscing about Arata (likely a kanji pun I don't get).

As if addressing those complaints I had, DERQ3 straight in Chapter 1 has Shina introduce Sayaka around the town, showing that it seemingly follows from the last degradation and True End of DERQ1.
The Ludens now live among the people, the world is normal. Some of the girls are mentioned in some shape or form like Celica being a famous actress and the hospital Shina visits which Yuri was studying. Shina is a Luden now (though the backstory on why is different from DERQ1, another mismatch to the pile), Mai's father is a sane person, which means the events of DER2 were also successfully beaten and Julietta Nolan twarted. Bitch. But no sign of Arata's friend that was indicated to be from the higher world the Nolans are from and that gunned them down.
Shina also seems quite concerned with Sayaka's wellbeing, not just shyness but making her worry about insects ''if you don't care one day you won't care about the lives of people'', narrowing down further her identity. Now one thing I really liked: when the hospital guy was in trouble, Shina used her powers onscreen. Powers are actually acknowledged. As they should.
DERQ 1.5's novel shows the cult is impervious to hacking, but no one EVER brings up the powers they should have. Not even a scene to be surprised it doesn't work. And even then their fighting capacity is gone as if it never happened for the sake of the Death Ends. Here we see they actually exist.

And then exploring the dungeon to debug the game that Shina didn't properly even write why things are happened, we are introduced to the Vanquish form, where Sayaka gains a Ludens coloration and Ripuka's exact color scheme. It makes clear Shina knows too much and why she is caring so much about Sayaka. Shina knows she is Ripuka, the Queen of Hearts that kills off all of us and tries to attack the God of Death. But Shina is trying to actually teach her to respect life and help people than let her become the psychopath she ended.
A nice reversal that it seems Compile Heart got into lately as in Mary Skelter Finale they do something similar.

Sayaka's sanity loss also causes her to see what others can't including a ''Ghost that is coming back'' with the design of the same coat the Nolan sisters wore in their bodies in the hgiher world and the eyes of both of them among other elements. Sayaka can talk with the God of Death - a trait the Ludens like Alice in DERQ1 could, which in turn can be an indicator to what they are, and what the Nolans became after they were killed in the True End of DERQ2
A good setup again, as the events of DERQ2 always felt too detached from the plot of DERQ1, but here we see it will have its impact.

I'm at the highest difficulty. So my level always reverts to 1 when I die. And I lose all the items in hand. And money.
So when I lose, I'm level 1. There are a bunch of cockroaches in the dungeon, but in the 1st floor there is a fucking penguin that tanks and hits harder than you do at level 1. He looks pathetic but he is a newbie crusher. Sayaka died twice to it with two different dead ends by my blunder and a 3rd time for good measure by my arrogance.
This system is something that makes me wish to exploit it, but with how despairing she is to the point she jumped to her death and got insects wormed into her belly once, I feel there is soemthing really wrong and that would punish me for abusing it.
If anyone knows if there is a consequence, I'm all ears without much spoiler.
But damn. The game isn't easy. It feels much easier compared to the previous 2. And simpler than Mary Skelter in exploring the dungeons specially with the Blue Archive chibi style. But in turn differences of stats mean a lot when I don't have a stable supply of items and money.
I can beat a penguin and then a cockroach kills Sayaka, I can try to be stingy and save items, only to end up stepping into a trap and getting her killed due to the low health. I got more Death Ends exploring the first dungeon this time than in most other entries until Chapter 3.
Also the game did a poor job in explaining how to upgrade my weapon. Nothing I click is working so if anyone has tips I'm also listening. I know just power leveling by farming Dead Ends isn't gonna be enough, in the highest difficulty Compile Heart always forces you to use everything in the game, it isn't gonna cut it.

Weapon potential gets upgraded by killing, I think this is permanent even if you die. Actually upgrading it requires Patch/Memory items you'll find in the shops or from drops. Use them while inside dungeons for a chance of higher yields. You can strip and reapply these to other items without penalty, so no need to hesitate. Make sure to back up your weapons(and store your cash) because these all get wiped on death too.
The only downside to taking skills is that you can't remove them, and it can become much more difficult to die on purpose to collect some Death Ends.

It's past July, and still no damned uncensor patch for Tokyo Clanpool. I'm done playing the waiting game. Prove it. Prove it's fucking coming, you bastards! This should have been ready within a month of the game's release at most.
