If you remove it it just looks like she's doing a roundhouse kick, same with the uppercut swipe thing in her WA
Go look at her throw animation, the dog does literally nothing during the attack part and doesn't even touch the opponent, if you watch it extremely closely there's a tiny bit at the end where she lands on it before returning to neutral but it's barely noticeable, I've seen her throw dozens of times and never noticed that until right now when I went through it frame by frame. So I guess not literally "literally" nothing, it does actually touch one of the two characters on screen for a couple of frames, but basically nothing.
And this barely looks worse than her normal 2D's nonsensical dust hitbox, if that's the most significant impact the dog has on her entire moveset I think it's pretty inarguable that it does "basically" nothing. If you remove Goldlewis's coffin, all his Typhoons would look weird as shit, if you removed Ky's sword or Faust's scalpel none of the attacks that use those would make any sense at all. Removing Rei results in, at worst, a couple of slightly awkward animations liker her 2D. For such a large element of her design visually that's an absurd waste.

I think we're talking about different levels of effect here.
Yeah some of the animations look a little bit weird when you remove 50% of the models involved, but considering you're straight up removing the single most significant element of her character design they really don't look that weird, most of the actual motions still make sense because she's doing all the attacks herself and the dog is just there. If you remove it there's a big swoosh effect and the hitbox is a little bit bigger than where her hand reaches on her WA? Come on, that's fucking nothing. Again, compare it to literally any other equivalent element of a character. If you modded out Testament's bitches, every single animation they show up in would make no sense. The dog is only a bit less prominent in her design than Paracelsus with ABA but if you removed the key most of her animations completely stop making any sense at all, not just "Oh well the swoosh effect on her kick is a little awkward and the hitbox doesn't line up quite right"
Maybe if the patch notes look okay I'll reinstall Strive and install the mod to record a new video since I can't find the old one, it is legitimately kind of impressive how little she changes in motion with Rei removed. Yeah there's a little bit of jank in a couple places so you could tell something was weird, but if you didn't already know there was supposed to be a wolf there I don't think you could have guessed anything remotely close to "an entire character model that is normally with her 100% of the time has been outright removed," you'd probably just think it was a mod with a scaling issue or something. If Arcsys hadn't given her a dog for some reason, she would have 98% identical animations with just a couple small tweaks and would look perfectly fine and no one would think anything was missing.
