The best stories have the commander not existing or not playing a major part like OZ, Redash, Old Tales, Nyanya paradise, Miracle Snow, Stellar blade and New year new sword. I feel like the main problem with 2.5 and summer isn't that the commander isn't more involved, it's that the story and characters were mediocre. I great story could have carried 2.5 and summer. Summer was ironically carried by Yan and Tove's likeability. I used to play a gacha like this and I'm sure there are others like it. Overspec/Pilgrims will become more and more common until you cannot make a team with any regular SSRs, thus halving the banner rate but still being able to advertise the old rates. Then they'll announce they're doubling the rates (really just returning them to normal). The player base will suck their dicks, and then they'll announce a new tier of powerful character at 1% again, promising it will be rare, but eventually the same thing will play out. Repeat until EOS. To try and hide the pattern, they will sometimes change it so that rather than having a nerfed rate, they will make it so you need 2 or more copies to unlock a usable version of the character, effectively halving the rate without having to actually do so.

As a newfag who hasn't played other typical gachas besides Genshin, it seems weird to me that so much of the content that is put out is time-limited event stuff. There's events in Genshin too but it tends to be minigames, challenge modes, mainly reusing assets in novel ways, meanwhile the Genshin updates mainly focus on story quests, areas, new enemies etc. that all remains available forever. It strikes me as odd that for Nikke there is so much focus on events, event stories, event minigames, event challenges, event this and event that that just goes to the wayside after it's done and is forgotten (even if it technically can be unlocked and replayed, without any reward incentive I don't think many people bother with that). Can anyone explain why things are this way? Is there some factor I'm not considering that makes it more profitable or desirable to have so much focus on throwaway content? Is it just this way because it's how gachas have always done it? Like ten years ago I could see the argument that phone space was a big concern so they had to cycle things in and out to avoid bloat, but surely that's not an issue anymore?
