CM splits you into two groups which filters out the whales and minmaxers and the rest of the fodder, in order to progress you only need very few wins out of a ton of matches so you're extremely likely to progress
LoH is a true elo system but the rewards end as soon as you exit the baby ranks and into anywhere that you can actually lose ranks
