If it does get one, it will probably be low-effort because of all the Redditors constantly telling game devs not to do Linux ports, and then as soon as someone discovers a bug that the developer doesn't bother to fix because of all the Redditors telling him Linux gamers only use Proton, those same Redditors will use it as proof that developers shouldn't port to Linux and that we should all just use Proton.

At least some ReShade shaders can be applied directly through gamescope as seen in the last thread: >>533851749
However, crt-royale appears to be broken: >>533939518
I can't say how good in general gamescope's shader support is, but that would be one way to get CRT shaders for example to work with native games or emulators.
There's also something called vkBasalt for Vulkan specifically but I haven't touched it and I don't know how many emulators for Linux use Vulkan.

>Do Linux players ever pay for games?
Yes.
And not that piracy on Linux can't be done, but Linux doesn't exactly have a reputation for being the OS for pirates. At the very least, a lot of pirates have some kind of skill issue with getting certain repacks and cracks to work, and many of them stay on Windows for that reason (or so it would seem based on how many times I've seen posts claiming or implying that Linux can't run pirated games).
If you want actual data, you can try to look up Humble Bundle's old statistics on how much users from each operating system paid on average for their pay-what-you-want game bundles. Linux users paid significantly more than Windows users on average. However, it's worth noting that these were the days before Valve started dumping money into Wine development, and at least some games were ported to Linux specifically for these bundles if I remember correctly. So the Linux users who bought these bundles were voluntarily paying more to encourage more of what was, I think, a rare level of Linux support at the time.
I don't know of any recently released data on spending habits of Linux gamers as compared to Windows gamers. The Humble data was somewhat unique in that it was pay-what-you-want and thus there was a direct measure of what people were paying instead of wild guessing about how many more copies of a game were played than were purchased.

Why is your 4:3 vertically stretched? PTDE works once you install DSFix (WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b") and add wmp11 and lavfilters via winetricks iirc. Demastered has online, the messages and random invasions are great for a first play through, I'm playing PTDE on my Steam Deck and it works.

Using protonhax did sorta work but due to lack of a path it will not load widescreen fix plugins. Honestly if I could just figure out how the dark souls patcher plugin worked (https://3dsurroundgaming.com/img/Plugins/Archive/Plugin.DarkSoulsPreparetoDieEdition.rar) I could just patch the exe myself, but I wouldn't know where to start for that.

Yes but that assumes you use dsfix. It can be a toss up for some if you're just comparing out-of-box.
>Am I retarded for using the drake sword? I plan on dropping it once I find a weapon I like.
No. That's fine.

Make sure you use dsfix and DSCM. DSCM restores online, tries to moderate cheats, and most importantly patches the malicious exploits.

Not him and not an expert in dependency linking but Linux ports shouldn't be so fragile if they target Steam Linux Runtime.
>but what about players who don't use Steam Linux Runtime??
Fuck 'em. It's the stable target that everyone whines about Linux not having. They can go make a non-Steam container with the same dependencies if running Steam hurts their butts. Maybe it's already been done.

It's not just that though. I'm playing CrossCode right now and the native version has Steam integration broken because they forgot to recompile after they updated a library. It's random shit like that too, where something breaks on Linux but not Windows and the developers couldn't give a shit to patch it. Native Linux ports remind me of how some developers treat their GOG releases but obviously worse since things are more likely to break.

Well yeah. The developer literally breaking their own shit can't really be helped.
There was at some point a working Linux build of Jamestown available through Humble Bundle, but then it was updated to a version which (as far as I can tell from online discussion) was broken from the moment it dropped, with the 64-bit executable segfaulting (as documented in contemporaneous bug reports so it isn't just code rot) and the 32-bit executable demanding a libsteam_api.so that isn't included.
The itch.io release of Nuclear Throne is advertised and sold as Linux-compatible but the Linux version doesn't run unless a file is replaced with one from the Steam release, so there is a working Linux build but I have to pirate it even though the game is in my itch.io account. This is more related to your GOG analogy and may in fact be a case of code rot if the itch.io version is just too old, but fuck them anyway for continuing to charge 10.99โ‚ฌ for broken copies of a thing that has working copies.
Cases like these are practically fraud, but I got both games from bundles and I don't really care to get my pennies back. Fortunately such things do not occur in a majority of Linux ports, which far more often just start to complain about missing libraries when they get old or maybe miss out of some content updates like Dusk and Turok, rather than being unfixably defective.
In any case, ports that are outright defective or were actively destroyed by their developers are still not a good reason for this "native ports are bad and developers shouldn't bother with them" mentality. It's basically telling developers they shouldn't care about Linux support out of fear that they won't care anyway. I think it's fair to say "don't do it unless you're going to do it right", but that's a lot different from "don't do it because others did it wrong".
Should we tell developers that we as gamers don't want GOG releases because of the ones who chose not to keep their GOG releases up to date?

>I don't know how many emulators for Linux use Vulkan.
Basically all 6th generation console emulators and later use Vulkan. Duck station might but the maintainer is a nut job that might make it windows only, and the one really accurate N64 emulator is Vulkan for rendering the game, but uses OpenGL for it's UI or something (had to use zink to get MANGOHUD=1 working).

Most issues doesn't have to do anything with dependencies but devs doing some retarded shit. For example: GoldSrc games are always go to the leftmost monitor because on Windows primary monitor has coordinates 0,0 and on Linux most WMs use them for leftmost monitor (no negative coordinates) since we have SDL methods to get primary monitor (yes, even on Wayland). Most issues are coming from devs used Linux for the first time the same day they had to develop a port.

I should have been done with this game a while ago, but the liberate/overthrow missions (which I assume are optional) remain fun despite being the same "destroy three blockades" shit every time. The ones where you help yellow gang fuck up purple gang are especially funny with a grenade launcher, because after the third blockade you can just shoot one well-aimed grenade at the bullet-sponge purple gang boss to finish it immediately.
I think I'm more than halfway through the main story missions.

Cringe but I guess I don't really care as long as I can get any new expansions' WAD files through Steam without making a Bethesda account. I haven't checked.

Lossless scaling frame generation works well on linux with lsfg-vk. I play mabinogi which was made in 2004 and its laggy even on high end hardware in 2025, so that makes it smooth. I also use it to watch animu at 144 fps.

Wait, can this be right? Bethesda actually DIDN'T take a wet shit on my game list this time?!
The various Doom series updates had first squished the Doom II "expansions" into Doom II, and then squished Doom II into Doom (1993) [formerly The Ultimate Doom] to create Doom + Doom II, resulting in the following horrific mess:
>Doom + DOOM II [also includes Final DOOM and Master Levels]
>Doom II [includes second copies of Final DOOM and Master Levels]
>Final DOOM [third copy]
>Master Levels for DOOM II [third copy]
But this time they actually opened a new app ID instead of just hijacking an existing one.
This also keeps the original Heretic and Hexen downloads small instead of bloating them up with what I assume is a KEX engine port and all kinds of features desperately begging me to stop using the free source ports I already installed.

It doesn't look like you need to log into any Bethesda shit for the new expansions. The new Heretic expansion (Faith Renewed) is already on disk and named "heretic_fr.wad", but I don't know what additional files need to be passed to GZDoom in order to get it to load missing title screen backgrounds and whatever this missing object (pictured) is supposed to be. The new Hexen expansion (Vestiges of Grandeur) is named "hexen_vog.wad" but again the title screen background is blank so there are probably other files needed.
It could also be that source ports need to be updated to handle some new jank, but I was able to get Legacy of Rust to work when that came out.

I don't know exactly what "heretic_ex.wad" and "hexen_ex.wad" are, but
>gzdoom -iwad heretic.wad -file heretic_ex.wad
results in at least some maps being... uh, different.
Yes, I should just run the Bethesda executable in Proton to poke around instead of loading files into GZDoom at random, but look, I'm stupid, and this is more fun for me.

It does look like the new expansions just aren't compatible with source ports yet.

Sad but expected. I'm surprised this wasn't the case with that last Doom II expansion, frankly. Why bother with a new engine if you're not going to accidentally-on-purpose fail to follow standard modding practices so that your engine is the Definitive Experienceโ„ข while the established source ports play catch up?
