I finally set up the rail production line. The only way I could automate this further is by adding an infinite cobble generator. I probably should do that. Then I can control the amount of tracks just with my iron input.

Reminder to mercilessly report any jakposters
I achieved a lot in-game today. I built a pub (though not fully furnished), the frame for a brewery, a small trainyard, and the production line for rails. I also worked to make my power station more efficient, and then I made a network of power pylons
I'm proud of myself.
Tomorrow I'll have to make more rails. I'll need to get more cobblestone too.
But the main objective will be building and designing a locomotive.
I fucking hate modern industrialization. I can't image the pain it would be to play the mod without mekanism pipes and ae2.

>>534129554Hunger Overhaul reduces your hearts and hunger on respawn, and Better With Mods respawns you further from spawn, but neither are updated past 1.12
How would you make this pack good?
I'm looking for a way to have either advancements or Better Quests to respond to the day counter, so quests will appear as a certain ingame day is passed instead of a quest chain. I say advancements as maybe there's a way just to make a blank advancement and have BQ recognize that.

Holy shit why is automating Ad Astra steel so difficult? Neither Create nor AE2 interfaces with the machine so I had to go with hoppers, but the hoppers pull from the input first and overflow input items to the output.
I have never encountered this before. I had to break out the comparators and use my vanilla redstone knowledge.
Basically it ensures the output is too full to accept any input items, and then I use a slice of a vanilla item sorter to make sure it will only pull the output items. What the fuck

>>534346747Better Combat is complete ass. I have no idea why it's in so many packs now. Is it just the name tricking people? Are people adding it to their packs without playtesting it? Are there actually people who genuinely like this dogshit? Is it just the sheer number of downloads it already has that make people think it's an essential piece of any modern modpack? I don't get it.
I have never played Minecraft for more than 20 minutes in my life. I heard the modding scene is great in this game.
Are there any mods (multiplayer or singleplayer) that give you a feeling of classic adventure? Like this idealization of MMOs present in isekai anime, or Frieren, The Hobbit, DND, etc.
Like, can I be a wandering adventurer just going through magical forests, etc?
I like the nuversion spawning light level change
>>534352307it seems to exist solely to make you kill your cows while trying to move fences.
>>534352307>Are there actually people who genuinely like this dogshit?yeah, children
>>534352597I haven't played it but I've heard the lord of the rings mod is decent
>>534352307Whats wrong with it? It just seems like an animation mod to me.
>>534352597There are a couple RPGish mods but they're just the framework system, not really a fully formed game on their own.
Any modpack that does try to create an RPG experience is still going to lean into things that you have to build for, not walk around without a base.
Or IDK. In some packs you have a yurt, it's basically a pocket dimension you carry, so you don't go back to your base but you still have one.
>>534358684The aim is to bring the combat from Minecraft:Dungeons, a game from an entirely different genre with basically no actual relation to Minecraft, and which by most accounts I've heard is mid at best, into Minecraft. I haven't played Dungeons myself, so I can't judge how well it does that, but I can judge how well the mod works as a Minecraft combat system: complete ass.
Instant attacking the moment you hit LMB is replaced with a swing animation that sends your weapon flying across the screen like you're throwing it, and any entities in its path gets hit. If you continue holding down LMB your attack will be followed up with a different attack animation, then another, then a pause before it goes back to the first one, a lot like your basic attack in a lot of action games. There are a couple problems with this. Firstly is that Minecraft is just simply not designed around this and BC makes zero attempt to change anything other than player attacks, so monsters still attack by simply walking directly at you and dealing damage instantly when they get close enough. You're trying to deal with your attacks having warmup while dealing with enemies that don't, so you have to kind of just get close and attack while backing up, even moreso than in vanilla.
Dungeons has no sandbox or building elements to it, so it isn't concerned with how well Attack and Destroy Block sharing a button will work, and neither is this mod. This doesn't pose many problems with swords, but the moment you try to take your axe and break a fence around your chicken pen, it goes flying off to the far ends of the Earth to slaughter them all. There's no difference between fighting mobs and slaughtering animals, so trying to just kill one cow at a time becomes an incredibly asinine affair. Also, BC doesn't add any new ways to attack like an actual action game would, it just changes how attacking with LMB works, so the actual depth added to combat is pretty shallow.
>>534363861The only positive point I can give better combat is that it makes spears have an actual use, assuming whatever spear mod didn't already give them extra reach. As for Dungeons itself, I haven't played it either but I've seen a couple videos of it, looks like a decent Diablo clone with a Minecraft veneer, not ground breaking but it was never really trying to be.
Okay I'm trying new versions for the first time in a while cause I wanna get into Create. Are they any good other tech mods that integrate with it really well or should I just stick with Create purely on it's own plus its addons? I'm playing 1.20.1 since that seems the most modded nuversion.
finally reached one of my distant mines with the track and made a station. I need an actual station block, though.
>>534363861 (cont.)
If I were tasked with tweaking the mod to address my issues with it, I'd really struggle. I would try reducing the warmup, altering mob behavior to try to emulate enemies in action games so that they have their own animations and try to keep their distance until they strike, prioritizing block breaking over attacking with axes, making a quick Slaughter animation for when you're attacking animals, and maybe changing first-person animations to not look so exaggerated, but I still feel like I'd be fighting an uphill battle (and some of those tweaks could cause conflicts with other mods).
The lack of additional attack styles is particularly deadly to the mod's attempts to deepen combat, but I can't really think of a reasonable way to implement them. Controller gameplay is kind of dogshit for anything first-person, especially if you need somewhat precise aiming for building and breaking things, but keyboard gameplay doesn't really put many buttons in easy reach to perform alternate attacks. Number keys are already taken for hotbar slots, shift is for sneaking, ctrl is for sprinting, Q is for throwing away items, E is for inventory, tab is player list, F is swap held/offhand items... basically everything you can reasonably reach while keeping your fingers on WASD is already taken. I guess other actions could be bound to side buttons on your mouse, but that's only if your mouse actually has those.
Allegedly, it's good for PvP. I don't have much to say about that since that's not really what I come to Minecraft for. I mostly play singleplayer and if I'm playing SMP I'd still rather just work on building projects with other people than fight them (while also fighting lag). And if a pack has BC in it, you're stuck with it--there's no way to toggle it off and still play on servers running the pack, and there never will be since then BC-on players could get easily ganked by BC-off players sprint-attacking them while they're still winding up an attack.
>>534363861I think the problem is that on its own it doesn't really do much other than make combat look slightly cooler.
You need to pile on extra mods which utilise the Better Combat to actually improve combat which is why its included in a ton of packs.
When you have some stuff that improves enemies, makes movement better, adds different weapon types its pretty fun.

Let's say I want to make a modded server where everyone has to build in the same 3x3 or 4x4 chunks to try and make some horrible kowloon walled city shit. What mods would be good for this vibe? And how should I prevent people from building outside the chunks, repeated wipes? Just not having chunks outside and forcing people to use renewable recipes?

Fortune and Looting were a mistake.
Raw Iron/Gold were also mistakes.
I don't like that the best way to ore process is to get the highest level of fortune possible for block breaking.
Especially with Apotheosis (which has other nice things that I do like), where Fortune and Looting go up to 8 (9 with Quark Tomes).
>>534592364are you asking for gameplay content or which mods would help you set this up?
>>534599773I think by the time you get decent fortune and looting tools the game is already trivialised to the point of it not really mattering that you get extra ore and it ends up just being a convenience thing for people using those sort of blocks for building.
>>534583469what interesting pack?
apart from ludicrous load times in 1.16.5 I don't get really performance problems in nuversions. my system was budget tier 10 years ag.
the exception might be skyfactory 5, that shit ran like shit despite being 5 hours in and having NOTHING automated, I was dropping to 20fps. maybe the mob spawning change was a hack job and sucked all the processing
