I enjoyed the parts where it quizzed me on a given mystery because I found that I actually could put the clues together and come to the same conclusion as the protagonist. And it's just plain interesting to have characters interacting with each other while they all have incomplete information. Being a VN means that, on subsequent playthroughs, the reader will have information that the characters don't, and that creates a really interesting sort of dramatic irony that you don't see in linear stories.
