Why are people acting like the chibi's in the event stories weren't just glorified vn's. Characters didn't move and any action happened offscreen. It wasn't like SP cutscenes where you actually had chibis moving, interacting, and fighting while in chibi mode. If it was like that during the events then I would understand where the chibiposters were coming from. What we got basically a side grade where the characters have less presence in 3d space but now they have more freedom since they aren't just locked to settings with actual maps.

I do which is why I complained about the summer event story in the survey. I just don't think it's problems had anything to do with the format and that it would have been magically fixed with the chibi format considering we had plenty of shitty event stories before the switch to VN format.

Damn, I just barely beat lvl 12 and got my lvl 13 hit in before reset. Doing lvl 12 I got to my 3rd team and discovered I was missing 3 SP and came up short half an hour before reset. Turned out the problem was my base Helena wasn't +5 and base Michaela was missing her -1 SP node. But more importantly I realized I had forgotten Apostle Olivier's +2 turn duration and the buff was falling off just before the final nuke, the 3rd team performance shouldn't have even mattered if I hadn't fucked that up.

After 5.1B damage 1 minute before reset I was barely in top 1000 though, jesus

While the dev notes at first say that they're merely "considering scaling back some of the existing pairing elements" and will be asking in a survey about this, further down their "Renewal Plan" for revising the existing story already includes "Reducing male-female coupling elements, among others." And as you say, shipping has never been a big part of the story. In the main story it's essentially confined to pairing Lathel with Justia, pairing Gray with Schera with the complication of Liatris being head over heels for Gray, and Olivier with Hansen. So if they're "revising" the existing main story to "remove coupling elements", they're basically saying they're going to neuter Gray's relationship with Schera and Liatris, and Lathel's relationship with Justia, and Olivier's relationships with Hansen; in hopes that people won't complain when Justia, Schera, Liatris, or Olivier get "encounters" with the master of the Gluppy Restaurant. There's simply not much else they could be "scaling back" as far as pairings in the main story.

People don't see that going well, for the story, for Lathel and Gray's characters, or for Olivier's backstory.

This is a multi-verse game, we've never had encounters with the medieval fantasy variants. There should be no complications with a version of a girl that has never even encountered one of the male characters in their home world. I like both versions of Wilhelmina, but not once would I ever confuse the modern swim instructor with the noble knight.

Honestly if they stuck to their guns on anything they said in the streams before I would be less worried about the direction of the game. I doubt they have the time or resources to completely overhaul the game to have no males, or even just keeping it to no males in the main story, so putting the suggestion there really feels like they're gonna shoot themselves in the foot or they're really just testing the waters.

Fast forward to now and the same standard would preclude Olivier as she loves her husband. Rather than make it Olivier from another universe or just have it be her anyways and ignore complaints, they're thinking of removing the existing relationship for her as the solution.
