Think about Amyfags. Big has unironically contributed more to the franchise (comics, Frontiers Easter eggs) while Amyโs biggest "moments" are either being kidnapped or yelling at Sonic

1. Silver getting top billing in a game while most other characters were getting cut, downsized, or otherwise mistreated rubbed long time fans the wrong way.
2. Silver had a "purpose" in 06 but they keep just...arbitrarily writing him back in, despite the fact that he shouldn't even exist anymore if he keeps changing the "past" over and over. Nobody can tell what his role in the cast is supposed to be other than "milquetoast knuckles". The "uwuification" is literally people trying to fix the problem of Silver being a pointless member of the cast. Cause yeah, if you keep pushing that until he turns into Jacuzzi Splot, maybe I WOULD like him, but then you've created a new character.
3. Obviously there's the anti-friends fags, but the forced nonsense connection with Blaze, who was already a quick fan favorite, felt cynical even to the fans who do like the big cast, and the careless retcon felt like an insult to people who actively tried to stay abreast of the canon.
Silver was sent out to die like a live service hero shooter in 2025. His fans are mostly the people who feel bad for him because of that.

I watched the Silver analysis video the other day. I have more appreciation for his story in 2006 now, and I also understand his character more, as well as how it connects to the rest of the game. Unfortunately of the three stories I think it's the least exciting, and these plot points and their meanings weren't communicated well (at least to me) while simply playing the game. So it's the least exciting of the three stories to me. Of course it goes without saying at this point, but I wish it had more work put into it
There are also the problems with whether time is erased or not and whether Blaze's dimension already existed, which is a big issue. He makes a good point at the end of the video when he says that it would be lame to take away all of Silver's character development from his debut game in his later appearances, but that's what I understand the ending of the game to be, and it matches with Sonic Team making ESP Silver a separate character in Runners. As far as I can tell there are (at least) two Silvers, and one is from a deleted timeline

I think more people should understand that Ian didn't even want IDW to be canon in the first place. The "OOC" rage he has been getting is mis aimed. He never considered his Sonic to be the "real" one. As you guys love to point out, he never even thought he was writing SALLY (his favorite female character) in-character. I don't see the point in screaming constantly about how evil he was when, at the time IDW was being written, he did not know he was writing stories in the game canon.
The entire dilemma about Sonic hating murder is broken by Secret Rings. Everyone knows this. But secret rings isn't relevant to IDW. IDW was its own product.

This is part of why stories about robots and Ai are so intriguing, you have to try and relate to something that doesn't think, act, or feel like you, and that's what gives them depth.
You've managed to somehow come to the conclusion that a character acting like a typical grief stricken human guy is deep and nuanced, despite being one of the most straightforward and easy to understand tropes in existence.
It's like those people that couldn't wrap their head around why Shadow is still confused and irritated before Maria's death, because they themselves wouldn't be. They can't personally empathize with Shadow and it drives them mad because they can't handle an inhuman character.

Maria not existing means she also isnโt terminally ill and Gerald is not obsessed with saving his granddaughter. Without that motivation, Gerald would never desire to achieve immortality. Without that motivation, he would have no incentive to actually work with the Government to create the Ultimate Life Form. For that reason, the Ultimate Life Form would never be perfected, and thus, Shadow would never be created. Ergo, without Mariaโs existence, Shadowโs existence fundamentally cannot be justified.
