Maybe but the series has a lot of ups and downs. I would say that 3 starts off really strong with the time skip. The game drags its feet but the final stretch is probably the best moments in all of kiseki with how they set everything up. CS4 is kind of similar where the start of the game is really good but it actually progressively gets worse and the ending is pretty unsatisfying. I wouldn't call any CS game bad though except maybe Hajimari because of how stupid the material gets but I guess in context of Calvard now it's not so bad. I would also say the padding is nowhere near as bad in CS as it is in the Calvard games so I'm not even speaking out of nostalgia. CS may have started the super padded segments but it at least offered way more so in hindsight I can't honestly say any of the games are bad.

Rean is not a loner and doesn't push people away in CS1 and 2, at all. In fact, the entire mech system is based on fucking magic friendship links. In both these games he is self-sacrificial and that doesn't change.
The only people he pushes away in those two games are his family at the very start because he feels like a burden over the whole adopting him thing, and he's told that it's wrong quickly.
He starts being a loner in CS3 for two reasons- his power is getting more dangerous because of the stuff happening until the end of CS3, and being forced to work for Osborne, as the hero of a version of Erebonia he doesn't believe in. His self-sacrificing attitude is not confronted here either.
By CS4, he has succumbed to the curse form and needs to be pulled out, and the self-sacrificing thing is confronted. In the ending, he sacrifices himself when he believes that there is no other option (that's why it's the bad fucking ending), and takes the other option when it shows itself.
By Reverie, he outright rejects sacrificing himself. Doesn't even consider it. That arc is done.

There's a way to make Garten better. Falcom had the right idea to give it a theme in Kai, it was only done lazily. It's still just generic dungeons with a gothic horror theme paint. Make the garten function like another game that has events, interactions, mini games and bonding events. Maybe place the slice of life elements in it, so the large roster can actually interact instead of being in static position with one or two dialogue. One idea from the top of my head is a secluded island like the gameplay loop of Ys 8. The stages would be like the maps of the island and you find characters while exploring.

They already had a formula. Story chapter, intermission(sidequests in gamehub and bonding events) then repeat. For CS, it was field trip then dayoff in Trista/Leeves. For Kuro 1, it was travelling to another town/city for a lead then Edith. It was cozy gameplay loop. But now it's routeshit and garten. Mind you, there was the abandoned school and the generic dungeon in CS3 as proto garten but they don't break the pacing.

They're banking on anime/jrpg tropes. They're the focus and Agnes is the main lead, a real main lead unlike Elie and Alisa. So there's not much leap on logic that they will end up together.
