Alright bros I've been playing way too much Space Marine 2 and now I find myself wanting to play Darktide.

Last played towards the end of 2023, is it worth coming back?

Ironic journo memery aside, it really does feel the devs wrote up a list of the things people disliked about DL2 and then actually made a point of not making those same mistakes. Everything, from the physics to the atmosphere to the presence of guns, feels great to me. Haven't done coop yet, but the single player's a blast so far.
Absolutely fucking mogs the vast majority of AAA games in terms of performance, too, which is great.

Yeah I was blown away by how stable everything is while looking absolutely gorgeous. The green mountain European scenery and open fields was such a kino decision after the first and second mainly took place in brown run down dinky cities. The night time forest parts as far as a horror atmosphere go is great too. I’m going to get a bit further in the story before I try the co-op.

Everything feels the same in Space Marine 2, it's like they took the wrong lesson from Darktide's heavy blows and thought giving that to everything would be awesome. Killing small Tyranids doesn't feel like a bug-squashing simulator and the large ones don't feel like a threat because you're inundated in the same register of attacks by the small ones.

Plus Space Marine dress-up is lame af. Different colors and heraldry are fun because they're hard to paint, but in a video game it just feels lazy - especially without any abilities or mechanics tied to armor.

DLTB might have the second best melee combat compared to Darktide. It doesn’t flow quite as well but the satisfaction, impact and ragdolling is really well done.

It's very, very satisfying; though the gunplay doesn't hold a candle to shopclick, the melee just feels so meaty--even with small bladed weapons--that it more than makes up for it. Previous DL games had weapon mods that gave melee attacks really pleasing AoE effects, and I'm assuming this one will as well later in the game, which honestly may bump its melee enjoyment factor up to at least par with shopclick, if not outright superiority.
Of course, it will never compare in terms of frenetic action/pacing; it's simply not the right genre for that.

Yeah Beast is purposefully slower which is why it doesn’t have that same feel, remember DT is a horde shooter where emphasis is placed on clearing enemies as quickly as possible, DL is survival horror with a focus on resource management and mowing down everything in sight usually isn’t viable, so it’s ultimately two different philosophies.

Decided to start playing DarkedTide again after dropping it right after launch after getting the damnation border. Now damnation is only Difficulty4? And there's a whole new difficulty board above the normal one?

Also started doing all the class penances and just got cucked out of "Shocking Stuff" penance no less than 4 times in the most promising mission yet by 2 "Auric Exemplar" Ogryn's in Damnation difficulty. Every time I'd be off and I'd stun a massive horde and they would just appear behind me ready to M1 or Frag-nuke it instantly. Death to all Shitgryn players.

The answer to your first questions is "yes".
For the penance, it's best if you tell the team about the penance you're trying to do. Most people are chill and will let you farm those 40 kills. Also I'm pretty sure you can use the flamer, as it don't have to be melee kills.

I got bodyblocked by two monstrosity spawns and trapped in fire in the exit hallway, and instead of just leaving while they had the chance, the remaining two wanted to push through a plague ogryn and a chaos spawn into a burning hallway with two snipers watching it in an attempt to revive the guy hanging from the ledge and died. There were literally no enemies between them and the exit elevator too because excise vault doesn't have hordes pouring out of the exfiltration area like several other maps, only sometimes will specials spawn at the broken bridge right next to the exit.

Inquisitors getting new recruits from former gangers and even former heretics isn't uncommon.
Inquisitors are willing to look the other way for the former crimes of their subordinates if they are useful or have useful experience in a certain field.
Like recruiting an ex-heretic sounds dumb at face value, but the fact the person has been a heretic formerly, means they have some of their own personal insight into the minds of the current heretics they might be fighting.
Basically like imagine if police hired ex-druggies/drug dealers to bust other drug dealers.

That shit is highly likely to get you branded as a traitor/heretic yourself on the spot.

And Rannick had all the reasons to disagree with the mission, he explains it. Both Grendyl and Rannick have working for months to undermine the heretic morale. Zola then just sending a strike team to kill and then capture 2 extremely deadly members of the Moebian 6th in the HOPES she might get some information out of them regarding her brother. Mind you there is no guarantee this would even work, like the strike team could 100% die and Rannick is right, and there is no guarantee that either of the Lts. would even talk about Wolfer even if one was captured alive.
Zola using the "but think of the citizens" shit to Rannick, is just her trying to cover up the real reason. And once Zola shows she is emotionally compromised and clearly has an ulterior, personal motive, it is only THEN when Rannick pulls her away.

Havoc in Darktide sounds like it's either testicular torsion difficulty or the most unfun metamaxing snoozefest, with no inbetween.
I saw someone on /v/ also say the metamaxing kills the game at lower difficulties too because africans join lower difficulty lobbies with their africanized builds and turn it into a walking sim for everyone else.

I've definitely run into rumbler ogryn's and dueling sword (any class) builds on Damnation. I was going to start playing Aurics but I'm using absolute shitter meme builds to finish all the weapon masteries so it seems ill-advised.

Havoc has ranking system, 1-20 is milk run, after that good luck with randoms, if you fail 3 times in a row(disconnecting and not joining again or fatshark servers dying also counts as failure) you lose a rank
climbing rank is also slow process, just because you cleared rank 40 while your current rank is 26 it change your overall rank to 40 just bump it more
once you're at the top it doesn't matter and you can bring whatever the fuck you want

Its dependent on the build but you can do it. Ogryn its fine. But fuck me is leveling with vet just worthless.

why is level design so bad and uninteresting compared to Vermintide 2? I dont remember a single map. All feel the same

It was ok once you get to "krak be upon thee" gameplay. But it's alarming that Vet needs to get all the way to the end with a specific build (Marksman's focus+extra) just to get toughness from any range kill in your range focused class. Meanwhile Zealot gets it damn near the start (and I never take it because I melee with my melee class)

I used the MkVI knife on veteran exclusively for a long time but recently switched to the standard non-folding shovel
