that's not how businesses operate tho. Businesses invest in things that can scale well for a higher return on investment. Investing 10 billion dollars to increase your monthly sub from 1.5m to 2.5m is retarded. Classic wow will never scale. Even if you throw every dollar you have at it you'll see logs go from 100k to maybe 500k? Meanwhile the retail art team alone can pump out a new mount every month that will bring in millions of dollars. Creating a dungeon on retail = thousands of hours of player investment because of the mythic dungeon system. Creating a dungeon on classic is (In the players eyes) literally just another chore they do to get to raids

a new raid/zone on classic will provide a patch of playthrough (more like speedthrough)

a new raid/zone on retail brings the possibility of dozens of new mounts, mogs, and achievements, all which = $$$.

Simply put, if there was a machine that printed out $4 for every $1 you put in, and there was a machine that printed out $1.25 for every $1 you put in, which would you use? If your job security depended on you making more money? Yeah, thats what I thought

and thats why blizzard will never invest directly in classic, they have done the studies themselves that show that player investment and the likelihood to buy things in the cash shop have a very positive correlation. People who ACTUALLY enjoy playing the game have no problems buying custom outfits or mounts because it feels like an extension of their identity.

In classic everybody has 7 alts and literally just plays the FOTM of the expansion/patch. We went from 70% of the pop warrior/mage in vanilla to mages funnily disappearing in TBC, to warriors coming back in wotlk, to disappearing for cata, and now like 40% of the arena ladder is literally warrior/x/x

Ironically enough retail has the soul of the game, classic is a prostituted husk of 3rd world brown people selling gold to feed their families, parsing autistic m+12 skilled players, and people who rather play something figured out and boring rather than come to the realization that they're not very good at video games
