I believe these people threaten the Sonic franchise, which I've loved since childhood. They infiltrated it, tried to claim it as only theirs, and oust loyal fans for nonconformity. To them, death threats, doxxing, and harassment are all acceptable behavior.

Why should people always fear expressing their true thoughts? Many are genuinely terrified of being bullied or expelled from what brings them comfort. That’s cruel and it's exactly the opposite of why people gravitate towards Sonic in the first place. I've seen many friendly people that I valued be driven to suicidal thoughts from the relentless harassment whenever they step out of line. Someone in this fanbase even attempted to end her life over this and ended up in the hospital. Barely anyone even heard about it or comforted her. Someone who was only ever polite in my eyes almost died.
I've wished for a long time that someone would speak out against that and refuse to be bullied off, enabling others to rally behind them and challenge that oppressive toxic culture that's developed. So I thought why not do that myself? Every hurtful comment or threat to my safety is worth it to me. I wouldn't stop even if someone came to my house and beat me half to death.

Another aspect of it is that it is difficult to imagine Shadow allowing me to be around him and touch him. I haven't played SA2 in 15 years. Part of me wants to, but the other part of me refuses to even touch that game. Too many memories, too much nostalgia. The game honestly scares me for that reason. I'm not making comics. I'm making scripts for hypothetical comics (which may or may not end up adapted into comics at some point). It's different and it's for expanding my resume and portfolio as a writer.
I do plan on making a Sonic fan project (Sonic Union) and coming up with creative ways to monetize it via donations and using it as a vehicle to shill original fiction which is legally distinct and above board, but I still have some work to do before I can get that fully launched.
I do enjoy working on the project Slashy has commissioned me on but it is not primarily for pleasure that I work on it. Rather, both personal incentive and pleasure.
I do have vague plans for a Sonic Union comic series but that has yet to materialize past the beginning stages. Sonic Union needs to be more mature as a project before I can move ahead with that.

I think a lot of people who claim to be Shadowfags don't truly love or respect him or his story. I can't understand how someone could claim to love Shadow but then see him as nothing more than an unthinking dog. That's exactly what his villains did. It's right there in the story, clearly showing the player how dehumanizing him like that is wrong. It unironically pisses me off.
Some of these people just want a boring stereotypical bad boy character, stripping away all the unique traits that make him so fascinating and inspiring to people in the first place. It sucks. I hate the fandom interpretation of him. I hate it when fans make him threaten people with no intention to carry it out. Sometimes I wish I were some casual with no knowledge of these characters so it wouldn't be so grating seeing people get them wrong.
