Can agree that was the intention with Flynn/Nanashi at least (falling in the same headspace as Commander Shepard as an MC for example) but I think Vkun was their farthest attempt in the 'blank slate' category considering his name being MIA in-game. To me the readings one could get from him require you already see Kei as a separate entity instead of the devs trying to sync the feelings they thought the player would have (and work in that player-centric perspective), you're supposed to like Aogami as a bro too after all.

There is no reason to even assume this because at the anniversary concert they had a bunch of stuff written out about his character displayed on a character sheet. It's how we know he's a delinquent among other things. They clearly developed an entire character for him. What you see of that reflected in game is how they choose to develop his character in the narrative. I do agree that you as the player are supposed to resonate with how he feels though. You are supposed to be really attached to Aogami and feel the anger and desire for revenge that he feels. That's how he works as a self insert. However there were a lot of people that did not give a fuck about Aogami. You can tell these same people tend to be very detached from the story as well.

Aogami has had a visible crotch latch on his texture files since the original release apparently and no one bothered to mention or notice it. It's a visible line with two holes that might open the latch somehow. Anyway, someone at Atlus purposefully put it there.

Yakumo had so much potential as an anti-hero neutral rep and being a subversion of every other neutral rep who are usually paragons of morality compared to the other alignment reps in their game, its a shame that he got sidelined in vengeance

The development cycle was like anything else. The problem is Yamai announced the project before they even started it. They had almost nothing done and he was babbling on about what the story was about when it wasn't even finalized yet. And the reason I say that is because it's like any other studio that has had to make a giant leap in design. They went from pixel art for years on the 3DS to UE4 and they didn't know what the fuck they were doing. It was going to be a long dev time with a lot of pivots. Yamai stupidly can't keep his mouth shut though so he announced the game right away.

The problem is either this or that they get too much. I'm fine with either going full story rich or going barebones, it's the half assed middle ground I cant tolerate where it's intrusive enough to sour the experience but not fleshed out enough to be worth engaging with.
