As soon as they "wake up" and take in something new that the original didn't know or think they've diverged into their own being would be my answer. Also in the case of Johnny there is the fact that the engram lost some integrity when the case got bonked, V was partially overwritten when they got to mikoshi and Arasaka were messing with engrams to datamine their secrets so there might not ever be a perfect copy of anyone.

You can still find cyberware every once in a while but it's pretty rare. It's been so long I forget how it used to be.

Cyberware isn't really in the wild anymore except for dogtown airdrops. Rippers all have the same inventories now, so there's no reason to keep Charles or Fingers alive nor to go out of your way to visit different rippers (ironically, with layered clothing available you now have an incentive to visit clothing vendors, which is a 180 of clothing shops being pointless and rippers being unique back during game release). You unlock different tiers of cyberware every 10 levels (white is immediately available, green at 10, blue 20, purple 30, gold 40), and can upgrade cyberware between tiers yourself.

Crafting no longer takes exponentially stupid amounts of materials now so it's viable to just upgrade gear instead of buying its tiered up version, depending on what your eddie/crafting component budget looks like ever ten levels. Gold/Tier 5 gear can be further upgraded to 5+ and 5++ to raise its strength further.

Cyber Arms have been reworked so now the different damage types (i.e., flame arms, poison arms, shock arcks) synergize with different stats, so now my netrunner waif nerd V with 20 int and 3 body can use Thermal Gorilla Arms if I want instead of my nerd needing to use some flavor of Monowire. Projectile Arms is simplified now where missiles are set and you can't change ammo types. Tabula Rasa isn't a $10k item at Ripperdocs any more, you can freely reset Perk Points whenever and once per save can reset Attribute points for free. How much cyberware you can have is now capped based on your Body stat and some Tech perks, but Tier 5 cyberware has lower "cyberware cost" than Tier 4 so even with only 6 Body and 20/20/20/15 everything else (at level cap) you can probably chrome out in whatever you want.

Oh yeah and you can unequip your cyberarms and have your 'ganic arms back again, that didn't used to be a thing. Not sure why you want to do that except if you wanted to box Rhino or Razor with your meat fists or something.

cdpr always had some issues determining when some npc should get angry with the player

you drive a car and stay in the road but an npc is close enough to dodge your predicted path that you get cop 1 star
you walk into an area and instead of like pushing you out with incremental level of power they immediately enter combat mode and start blasting
you drive a car and in the 1 second you're in some npc visibility range and they start blasting your car, in general I dont get the gang member opinion of you. If they merely seeing me means combat does that mean the group is officially at war with me and sent every member details about my face?
I scanned some laptop on nix's mission and the laptop holder starts blasting, come on now.

specially the npcs who should know combat with you would be death should prioritize running away or negotiation

How heavily are Mantis Blades outclassed by katana? I know their damage doesn't keep up, but I was hoping they would get some good Relic perk at least, but all their Jailbreak perk does is an equivalent of Light and Thunderclap it seems. It's weird how Gorilla Arms are arguably the best Blunt weapon in the game while also offering out of combat utility and Mantis Blade are simply outclassed instead.

That's a bunch of lies since there's lots of hidden, independent dome cities on the sea floors. They're mostly free from corpo rule, much like the spacers or nomads.
There's also floating cities and so much more. The setting is far from dead.

Anon Nomads exist because the ecosystem is so fucked up that farmers had to pack up and move to find a living. Due to global warming Alaska is now a breadbasket state, and has been since at least the 2020s. Wheat got hit with a plague so hard in 2002 that there was a worldwide food crash and people had to shift to rice.

Sure by 2077 most of these problems are nearly a century old, but even acid rain is still a common occurence (it also gets called out during some weather forecasts) and in the tabletop books it melts through flesh. The biosphere has been thoroughly ravaged in the setting.

Correct. The corporations overstayed their welcome for far too long, and are now surrounded by freedom loving nations, even in space. Africa is quite prosperous and relatively untouched (though that may change in the 5th corporate war).

That's nothing compared to early Triassic / late Permian. Which curiously aligns with the timetable when Mars got nuked (in real life); dinosaurs appear soon after. Xe-129 (only found in nuclear blast zones) is found in a nice deposit layer all over Mars, but only during that period.

Only if well written. If you play as V, you need to be reset like you were Samus Aran entering a new game.
If V is an NPC, there's already going to be drama because V would have a canon form, gender, look, romance etc.
Streetkid seems the most reasonable since she'd be connected to Viktor / Jackie / Misty in the most natural manner. But for many, V is a corpo because the dialogue is so strong.

The other issue is the story. Any canon choices or events will piss off many, no matter what - even with phenomenal writing.
There is a canon ending, but CDPR weren't too keen on sharing it yet. Unless it's >>544488023 - which, you know, is perhaps the most aggravating option (but I'd forgive them).

However, they de-aged V intentionally. So reusing V is viable, as the protagonist. If that Mikoshi story is true, you may have destroyed Mikoshi / jailbreaked from it by going through the 2077.
A young MC works. Would be a nice reset. And since V's story would continue, it wouldn't feel like a complete waste (V would suffer most, though). They could even continue the earlier, intended storylines if their interest remains.

Path tracing will always look like shit unless you have good light sources pointing in an specific direction or if you create your own light sources via photomode lights, it takes a lot of work to make it look good if you don't have the right conditions.

It can look very good if you go to areas like westbrook where you have lots of lights and shadows during the evening or at night.
It can look good if your character is directly facing a billboard, it will give you better surface reflections from particle effects.

the cerb is also not an unkillable machine, it's only unkillable at the time because V rushed into the underground alone and unprepared with nobody reliable to help, if you could lure it outside a single Maxtac team could probably take it out.
SO it's not leaps and bounds better than 77 tech, it's just a very unique piece of hardware that could rival 77 tech a little bit in some aspects, with a very evil rogue AI to top it all.

From a gameplay perspective, it's basically the only way to challenge a built V, when I did the Songbird ending in the space terminal I was basically just pressing W and left click on heads for 30 minutes without my hp dropping from 70%, it was fun but it didn't make my heart pump like the Cerb did, not many games can do that anymore... so when they do it I fucking love it.

In cp theres these ncpd missions where generic npc enemies stand over a dead body with some whatsapp log written by an intern that function as grind spots for shinobi/headhunter/solo stats
Gigs with some gang hidey hole, a object you need to loot, an npc you need to talk to or a named npc you need to neuter.
Then actual missions with more substantial setup and narrative.

Problem is the filler is very unmemorable and repetitive. You dont get much out of the whatsapp logs since they're too narrowly about similar topics.

they did. a lot of the side content is connected to each other and shows how theses gangs operate. like what they are selling, who they are selling to, and the people and gangs they work with.

for me the "filler" is well paced and provides a lot of opportunities to use your build. Gigs are nice but they tend to have loose restrictions that scanner missions lack, with roughly the same number of enemies. ncpd missions, you can clear it however you want.

that's just one of the problems with open world and nobody has been able to fix
it simply requires too much time and effort to add hand crafted content to maps this big and even more to debug them since missions are bound to overlap and fuck each other
AI is for sure not gonna be able to fix this problem, and at the end of the day if you dedicate large time and money to add handcrafted optional missions you might get people that never ever even see them so it's not a good investment.
I think CP has done a really good job and is way better than the other games you mentioned, side-missions have enough custom content to not make them feel completely generic and gigs are a step further with more voice acting and extra details added into them.

at the end of the day these open world games are just theme parks and all you can hope for is more content added with each update but they sort of gave up on the game because once you do everything then it's over, do it all again. At least cyberpunk lets you do some things slightly different so there is better replay value.

One thing I found wanting in cp was gamey gameplay game stuff where you execute mechanics to achieve a goal. Maybe with gangs you had faction quests that require you to make decisions about doing stuff for them, grind rep. make an enemy of one group that excludes missions from others.
then the cop missions have to factor in that you're not gonna attack grp1. These faction mechanics can then be intergrated into gaining areas in the world map, you could capture an area then you have to defend it, invest into local economy and do raids etc.

Some collectible stuff in the world thats not realistic or immersive necessarily, but is stuff you can do by going to a random direction and stumbling onto it.

I dont think cdpr lacks imagination for it but the problem is needing to double the budget to achieve their desired game design.

I think my favorite missions they added were the Increased Criminal Activity fights. Adding what were basically three different dungeons, each with a miniboss, Relic terminal, and rare item really upped the challenge and reward compared to base game. I felt it was sorely needed since by late game V's easily mowing down the simple gangoon squads a normal mission had.

The problem with running simulation type gameplay in open world games is most people don't want anything to do with them until the main story quest is done, and then by then they are most likely to stop playing anyways, and a very small amount of people actually finish games so it's a big investment for something that might not get touched.
But if you make it part of the main story quest then it has to become the whole meat of the game since containing it as a side-gamey element is too hard to balance and costly.

I'm thinking they could split the map into many unique districts like Dogtown and then give it a complete separate economy, government and fixers, player actions could then directly change what happens in them. Sort of like how we killed Hansen and then had Mr Hands make us manipulate his replacement, that basically went nowhere other than to close the story but it could have been fun if it actually led to drastic changes in Dogtown that could alter the zone in different ways, bring new fixers, npcs from other parts of the game or even straight up get even worse and devolve into full street warfare.
But this would have to become the meat of the game since the scope is so damn wide, and also require 2 times more budget.

I think the major pitfall is that characters making bad decisions is often frustrating writing. As the audience we often have a more impartial and more knowledgable perspective of a situation than the characters in a story, so we're better able to find discrepancies and see faults in the characters' logic. With weaker writing that faulty logic begins to feel like an insult to the viewer if the result of those poor decisions isn't engaging or exciting to experience.

For Claire, the payoff of her absolutely malding leads to getting yelled at for not aiding in murder, being railroaded into watching a deranged widower execute a man who didn't kill her husband, or picking the right dialogue options during the previous race and managing to talk some sense into the bitch and still forfeiting the finals. It's not the most compelling because while the audience knows the character is wrong, our ability to interact and change the result is restricted to two mostly unsatisfying endings and one hidden "best" ending that still relies on the player entertaining faulty notions until the end where we can reel Claire back into reality. The lack of agency is frustrating.

I dont think its a lack of agency that people find frustrating. i've seen it to many times from people complaining about this mission in particular and others that reward the player with items (and in other games). A lot of players hate consequences and they are not honest with themselves. They want every answer they give to be the 100% win condition. And struggle to deal with reality and get angry at the wrong thing.

Very much like Claire. while you might be aware there are consequences, you dont know how you'll live with them until it happens. She got angry and rejected the nature of her sport and assumed greater intent then there was. She wants to be angry and is looking for someone to reinforce the lie she tells herself, nudge her over the edge into V's world. While she is a bartender for Mercs, she is not a Merc.

V's role in that mission is basically to be Claire's replacement Russel and help her go down the right path. Sure you might be okay with killing Sampson, and she could have just hired V to kill him outright, but she didnt. She is still uncertain and capable of going down either path. If V was comfortable killing him before the race, that is the nudge she was looking for to make the wrong decision. But the best outcome is the most human response. You're not there for cold blooded murder, you are there to drive and if he dies in the process so be it. When Claire wants to pull over and follow Sampson, V already knows this was never about the race, winning it doesnt matter. And since V didn't reinforce her anger she is open to accepting reality and reject the lies she told herself.

it was an original BD story, dealing with uncomfortable religious themes applied to technology and attempts at redemption. The hot producer got mad at me because I wouldn't let my V be brought down into heady discussions and I just asked the guy what he does for fun.

But my first play through, got a bullet straight into his head before we even started and did the job the husband paid me to do. Even the game seemed pissed I dodged this entire sidequest.
