How are you doing it, does that space always exist but it's blocked off by a wall until the player meets a certain criteria? Not sure what the best way to dynamically add space to a 3D environment would be, but I'd assume that's the kind of thing there must be precedent for. It'd be nice if you didn't have to spend the resources rendering it while it wasn't being used.

Well the game is 3D, but the layout will be mostly 2D. It's for a top down shooter, so at best there will be pits/water and walls. Anyone in the thread using Godot for 3D? I'm struggling with navigating the viewport. I have a model separate from my character model I want to zoom in on to adjust the collision shape to match the model size. But I can't get the viewport camera close to the other model. There seems to be no way to pan and zoom into a location.

Does that make sense, and can anyone help me out?

If I track which time of the day the player is playing my game, how can I utilize this information? I'm assuming the big mobile games are already doing this? I remember reading something like by tracking when the player is playing the game, you can figure out the gender of the player, if they are student or not etc. I think Unity is already tracking this. I don't know if it shows on the dashboard for the developer. But how can I put this information to use this directly? Or are there any other metrics I can track to monetize my game better? Thanks! I didn't animate it at all actually. Its the power of shaders. I found the shader online on some website and tweaked the parameter values until I got this. I also don't have any artistic skills. All the environment tiles, etc are a mashup of free ones I found online.

You can go really far with basic image manipulation skills and some understanding of shaders. You don't even need to write the shaders, just know how to find good free ones online and where to apply them. For some assets I just tweak the modulation values or add outlines in GIMP or Godot, and it goes a long way in enhancing it. Try messing around with stuff like that, it can be fun and you'll surprise yourself with what you can do.

I found the code for the wind effect here.
If the shader has parameters you can view them in the godot inspector window and just tweak the params till you get a nice effect. I don't even know what all the parms do sometimes. You can fuck around with it. Most of these effects usually come down to applying some sort of distortion + random noise over some periodic interval. so think in terms of waves, amplitudes, frequencies, sin and cos.

I think the more important skill is knowing where to apply the shader. Because in godot you have all sorts of options. You can apply it at the raw asset level, or implement it as some layer-wide effect for all assets on a layer, etc there's tons of possibilities. Have fun with it.

I perfectly copied the seasons mechanic from Pokemon.
Nights are longer during winter, afternoons are longest during summer, etc...
I'm manually transitioning the time here to demonstrate but it changes based on the user's system clock, and it works flawlessly. It updates in real time.
If you play at night, the game is nighttime, and so on.
Now I can add snow during winter, falling leaves during autumn, etc...

Having trouble with my blender to Godot workflow, I have to export as glb then save an inherited scene and overwrite the old one every time I want to update anything. I know I can use blender files directly but then it won't apply modifiers or keep animations.

I think you should export the blender files/models with a transform of 1,1,1 for the scale and apply all your modifiers before you export.
If in blender you have scaled something larger or smaller, press CTRL+A with the model parent selected and choose "All Transforms" to sorta reset the the model to be scaled at 1,1,1 but keeping all its transforms.
