This was one of the pieces that played into Marty saying the quiet part out loud on the subject of people cashing out. You reduce output on Destiny, still more or less keep the price for a year roughly the same, so much of the staff is gone, a ton is contracted even further for pennies, Marathon was full steam ready to ship with something resembling a game but it wasn't particularly amazing and really served to take $40+pass price from people suckered, while Bungie just phones everything in. It makes sense why bucket hat isn't trying to go full PR corpo damage control, or fireside chat sit down because chances are he's on a very particular gameplan and could probably do more good than bad just not saying shit, and likely quietly exiting sooner than later. Even trainman is in a sort of whatever filler role and they know how much the community hates him so he sure as hell isn't going to be coming out on stage in his midlife crisis leather jacket look anytime soon. It's not even so much "game dead" but this is just a weird zombie shamble where Bungie's going to try to milk bucks for as long as they can.

I have to hand it to Bungie, the state of this new Frontiers era of Destiny really made more appreciative of past years especially with things I outright hated and had my playtime dip to 0.

I did solo flawless legend Avalon back when it was current content. It was fucking awful, bullshit infinite ad waves out of nowhere that I managed to clear up by using a Banner of War Strand Titan with Adept Mykel's Reverence (pugilist/swashbuckler), Vexcalibur and the Neomuna's Strand machine gun backed up by retardedly strong seasonal Strand mods (Horde Shuttle and that one mode that gave you unraveling rounds for Strand guns on orb pickup). Even then it was absolute cancer infected with aids, but whatever the hell they did to this mission now, with those retarded portal modifiers on top of it, is just idiotic.

Thing is the numbers have stabilized more or less. When there is shit to do 30-40k jump in on PC and I imagine the console numbers are much higher. Renegades will hit similar numbers to EOF if not more and if they have a good trailer for the next year of shit they'll pull in a bunch of people again. I feel like the commentary around the current state of Destiny has been blown a little out of proportion most likely because console players are more casual and don't engage with streamers as much as PC players did. I mean weeks away from closure like that old talk said would have been months ago so yeah something is different now. Then again everything is different now with Bungie if you think about it. So maybe the danger zone has moved. That or they'll cut another 15% of the studio off. Maybe both.

I slogged thorough EoF, but Ash and Iron just hit hard with how little content we got in a 'big update', with all lore relegated to random datapads that can glitch out if you don't collect them in a some sort of contrived manner. Reminds me of that story by that chinese guy about how God, angels, and demons are real, and people can be brainblasted into being true believers.
