Ten writers. The main story falls off compared to the Prologue and Chapter 4 it goes to shit. And they got rid of the only writer that knew what he was doing (who kater got hired into Blue Archive)
The reason Owen has been a target is because Chapter 4 focuses more on his insecurities. It’s normal for a gacha to explore an unit or two each chapter but the problem was it did so by making everyone’s INT take a huge hit and then have everyone (which since the cast is mostly girls, the girls but in Chapter 5 started including the guys too) keep patting him on the back, worried for him, encouraging him and so on.
So Owen became memed as more of a protagonis than the protagonis and their equivalent of a fat NTR bastard stealing all the girls.

Okay so after the wide acclaim of Volume F, Isakusan/Pikachu was praised to the point of being compared to Fate’s Nasu. And he let that get to his head.

He managed to strike deals with LINE to invest on him. And to settle debts to do that LINE got Last Origin sold to Valofe.
But turns out he wasn’t as good of a developer as he was of a writer. Project KV was target of heavy criticism for his perceived betrayal, blatant reuse of BA traits like schoolgirls with halos, the planning obviously happening while he was working in Blue Archive and so on. The studio collapsed before jr could get anything.
Blue Archive got a bunch of delays while they had to fill the void of staff.

For context, I'm a covid era gacha gamer (yes, 2020 and genshin as most people). After a few years on and offing gachas after leaving genshin and almost eradicating my social life, I burnt out and left the genre. It never interested me again. No new game trailers I tried a few times, but none of them stuck with me. Until now.

I randomly stumbled upon czn on a meme about Trickal (great cute game, not for me sadly). The slay the spire but caught my eye and it was an instant download for me (I'm a roguelike and deckbuilder sucker even now, balatro goty lol).

I absolutely adore this game. Like, genuinely. I haven’t stuck with a gacha in years, but this one hooked me in a way nothing else has. It felt like it was made for me: the psychological counseling mechanics, the Slay the Spire-style gameplay, the dark cosmic horror vibe, the stylish (and yeah, sexy) designs everything just clicked.

And the story? Unpopular opinion but I was kinda invested. Been years since I read every paragraph in a gacha gamr. I loved that the characters had real dynamics with each other. They weren’t just cardboard cutouts glazing the “Captain" all the time (although there is a fair share of that). They joked, argued, comforted each other Just like what a team going through life, death and insanity would. They felt alive. Owen felt kind of an adopted son character. Renoa and captain dynamics was very endearing, kinda like definite they will marry vibes. It stood out from the usual self-insert harem formula every other gacha drowns in.

Now they’re nuking all of that.

So they’re gutting everything that made this game feel different. No more natural team chemistry, no more banter that gave them depth.. just a sanitized world where everyone exists to praise you.

I’m not even mad, just sad. This was the one gacha that actually respected the player’s intelligence.
