Cold Steel is written for 10 year olds.
It's a shit arc.
Daybreak is leaps and bounds ahead of it in terms of everything.
It was a return to form after finishing Daybreak, it was what the first 5 games were like dialogue wise.
It's just a damn shame that the horrible arc took up 4 whole games and its a hell of a obstacle to get past.
Quite a few streamers dropped the series in the cold steel arc, the facts does not lie.

Playing Sky 1st Chapter after Daybreak 2 really hammers in how fucking annoying the way the Calvard arc handles s-crafts is, I can actually just drop 4 s-crafts on an enemy without having to build up gay little S-Boost bars just to use one S-Craft, seriously why did they do it like that, no other game did it like that, it sucks!

The "strategic" aspect of movement in this series was only present when the game was top down isometric and grid-based. The CS system totally invalidates movement as a mechanic, you never really need to move around in those games because your area of effect is so large and the bosses themselves tend to have wide-area or all-area attacks.
I haven't played Daybreak but I did play 1st remake and the free movement was a welcome change because not being able to move in this system is just annoying and inconvenient, whereas not being able to move in the OG Sky + Crossbell adds an actual strategic element.
