Holy cow this game is LONG.
The way its designed/formatted makes it feel like a quick CG hunt you could knock out in 30 minutes, but it just keeps going on and on. And yet somehow it doesn't feel like it overstays its welcome. You get just enough world-building and H-scene content that it makes you ready to go for the next bit, but never feels like it goes on for too long either. The 'gameplay' is very barebones but doesn't get in the way either, so you'd think you'd be able to just rush through it, with how small the maps are and how compact everything feels, there's no fluff.

Even the completely optional side stuff is interesting, you can follow what other NPCs are doing day after day (I ignored most of them for a bit, then noticed they were reappearing and had different dialogue and their own side stories going on, makes the world feel bigger and alive, which is surprising for an H-game). You'd never think much of it with the shitty music and awkward engine choice, its initial presentation was so forgettable. But man, I never expected such an NTS gem. Played for like 6+ hours straight and I'm not even halfway when I checked the amount of scenes available, despite rushing through most of the dialogue. What the heck, where did this game come from. It's up there with Ruins of Luxoria, Knightess Whore, Warped Desires, Convalescent Life and A Story About a Stolen Lover. Really caught me by surprise.

This is hands down the best H rougelite deckbuilder game I've played, gameplay wise. It's not difficult, but it's fun.
Characters have passive skills (free relics) and active skills (using an external mana bar), ranging from good to STS end game poison build.
I've cleared the last boss with 10 different characters, unlocked 14 characters in total, and thought that was it. But after just checking the Steam trailer there are like 5 more characters I haven't seen yet.
However your game will crash randomly without autosave, your framerate needs to be capped manually, and some card effects are unusable.
I'm pretty sure all issues with the game can be fixed if you play with Japanese, too bad I'm EOP.
About the scenes, they are disappointing. I only got like 5 scenes, mostly from the story. However I might not have finished everything yet, but the game didn't tell me that there could still be more content.

There's no virgin clear achievement like Fumika Fantasy has, so for the first cycle it's pretty pointless. The game's economy definitely isn't built for a first cycle character not to be prostituting. For second cycle+ it's nice to not have to watch prostitution scenes after each dungeon when you don't feel like it though.

The best of both worlds is to just intentionally fail the first deadline. This immediately gives you a game over and lets you do NG+ with 300 achievement points to buy some early boosts with.

MY]R has a very different feel, it's more of a sandbox game.
The Mercenary's Adventure is quite similar to The New Game, in fact the game is kind of expecting you to know the base mechanics from The New Game. It's bigger and more complex but I honestly liked The New Game better. Still I think all of his games are great, I am looking forward to the next one.
