I became pretty decent at helicopters in 2042 but yeah it takes tons of practice and feeling out the enemy team. As soon as you start dominating they will all class switch to antiair and light up the sky. At one point I had like 10 missiles inbound. That's a pretty good sign that you pissed them off. Know when to hide to lose your heat levels because they inevitably class switch back due to being raped by your infantry. Strike again. Rinse and repeat. Watch salt in chat.

Completed the 10 Gaunlet qualifications weekly tonight. Took me about 5 games, of which my squad won 2.
Worst round:

Gauntlet is a direct improvement over the dogshit trash that SQDM is. I thought I hated Extraction from the 2-3 gauntlet matches I've played before, but it's actually kind of fun. Heist was great, love me some capture the flag.
I'm not too fond of some of the missions though, the matchmaking seems insistent on putting low-level noobs in your squad, and it's a crapshoot as to whether you'll get a competent teammate or get placed against some sweaty ultrafaggot and his discord call.

I used to think this, but getting good with tanks makes it less bad. It becomes more obvious where the mines are and you or your gunner can just shoot them out, use the disable mines thing, or you can crawl over them. Rarely does a set of mines take me out. The flying stress right now is definitely the biggest it's ever been in a BF. Low ttk, dogshit small maps, abundance of lockon AA that has no vertical ceiling, tows being insanely easy to use(I literally hit a jet afterburning away from me on the other side of Mirak with one yesterday), rpg velocity, flares lasting 3 seconds, and radar working whenever it pleases are all why.
Personally I love it. Flying is never as laid-back as it could be in past BF's except for the unicorn retard lobby where virtually none of them are spamming stingers and rpg's nonstop and there are no competent enemy pilots. I am rarely bored cause I am constantly thinking about and doing something. Tracking the enemy jets and their spawns is always #1 followed by monitoring where the cheetah/gepard is. Then there's watching for tows out of the corner of my eye, protecting my helis and killing theirs, figuring out which angle of approach I want to make a pass on cause the wrong one is very easily death, finding and avoiding/strafing/bombing the stingers, bombing whichever point the ground is pushing, protecting my tanks and fucking with theirs, avoiding their base AA and using my c-ram when I don't have flares or want to save them, flying back to repair/rearm, various other smaller stuff, and of course the eternal getting pissed off at radar not working. Half of that shit I never gave much thought about in 2042, 5, 1, and 4. Maybe 3 a bit at the start of it.
Honestly the only three changes I really want them to make are to fucking fix radar, lower stinger vertical range, and up the ttk on other aircraft a decent bit. Cheetah/gepard main guns need some buffs too imo.

I still can't tell if there's a point to use suppressors in breakthrough. You can't sneak around because the sectors are too small, so stealth isn't an option. But it does mean only people near you know you're there, which might influence whether people farther away bother to head your way.
