i'm a little disappointed that olympia's stage skin for rock wall is so expensive. i think the announcement said it was the newly hired environment artist's first contribution, but it's better looking than every other stage. the background could use a touch-up but other than that it's great. it has that distinctive UE5 lighting which surprisingly fits the game well.

Is fleet an honest character? Her ground game blows (every tilt is frame 9 or higher), side-b is like frame 30 and always gets parried if your opponent has a brain, only her sweetspot bair is safe on shield, and float fucking sucks after they gutted the airspeed on it. Yeah, FC Nair and regular nair is fast as fuck but a lot of characters low profile it without even trying and the inputs are difficult. Her dacus is kewl though.

i started quitting out on every clairen in both ranked and casual and my mental wellness has improved drastically
starting to think i should only come back to this game once there's actually whiff punishing. a disjoint character with a brutal combo game isn't balanced at all when there's no penalty for whiffing any of her moves. worse, because hit stun is so high, she gets to do literally fucking anything she wants off of tippers, which are incredibly easy to land.

i've been playing clairen and, i have to say, this character is exactly as brain dead as she seems from the opposing perspective. i'm like level 12 with her and i'm getting an absurd amount of undeserved kills against players who are objectively better with their characters than i am with her.
at first i was approaching with her, which was a big mistake. all you do is hide behind your disjoints and fish for tippers, and when the opponent gets frustrated because they haven't hit in you in 3+ seconds you punish their approach with an anti-air or dashback grab.

They should honestly just consider reworking the Fox / Wolf function in a game without L-canceling where wavedashing is as easy as buffering two inputs at the same time. It's just a fundamentally retarded design decision and no amount of minor nerfs are ever going to fix the fact that having a move that's active frame 2, combos into itself, activates the character's win condition, and can kill confirm with that win condition is retarded. The thing that stops Fox's shine from being the end-all-be-all of Melee is the execution barrier, which doesn't exist in RoA2. If they ever decide to add real recovery to moves, I hope the change absolutely rapes Zetterburn into an early grave where he promptly becomes a maggot farm.

The only people who have circle camped me in forever were one Zetterburn and one Kragg player. The Kragg player did nothing but neutral and down special, and the Zetterburn did nothing but run to the other side of the stage and jump and side special.

On the other hand, the developers are retards and still haven't added tutorials for anything beyond basic offense or defense, so you have to either get your ass beat in matchmaking, refer to external resources (official and unofficial), or watch other players play to learn how to play. There is a semi-official video series that explains everything, but it's a pretty pitiful stopgap.

in my experience, most mashers are in gold and platinum, but there are some characters who are just legitimately brain dead mashers no matter how many frame data knowledge checks you pass. zetterburn, maypul, and clairen mostly. olympia too but she's easier to counter. still deciding how i feel about the floorhug change, since everyone just seems to fucking love dtilt now more than ever.

i have no idea what you're supposed to do with any of these.

I've played Melee since I was in grade school. I've watched it since the mid 00s when crusty-ass competitive recordings began popping up on YouTube. I went to my locals. I've played enough fucking Melee, and I've definitely watched enough considering all we're left with for the foreseeable future is hbox. I'm going to keep playing netplay with friends, but I can't imagine looking at Melee in its current state and thinking it has a future.

Also, the current version of the stage only has directional lighting on a few elements: the pillars and statue of Loxodont in the back. It seems like all they did is actually apply the same light source to the entire stage. I don't know whether they were worried about readability or what, but the new version is infinitely better.

It was fun, but it feels so sticky and awkward that Melee feels like baby oil in comparison. The shield stun is fucking WILD. Shieldgrabbing is simply not an option, nor is jumping OoS. Feast or famine experience, especially with how Z-canceling works.
