Any Warcraft 2 players? I only really want to do tides of darkness and beyond the dark portal once each, so which campaign should I do for them? It's hard to find out which the "canon" one is, since apparently for BtDP they're both canon but I can't get an answer for ToD
Also, as a bonus, is the seemingly high effort it takes to get a version of pre-reforged WC3 worth it? Or should I just deal with the remastered. Inplayed WC1 remastered, but with original graphics on, and I'm doing the same for 2.

Second question, if you're just playing the Campaign for Warcraft 3 I would just get the original. If you're into Customs or Melee online games, Reforged is what most people are playing and is the only real option if you want to get into that scene.

WC1 and WC2 are best played with the Remastered versions, with old or new graphics since BBI are actually cool devs and did a good job.

Playing W3. I've no interest in multiplayer. Should I just use the Classic graphics or are the Reforged ones okay. I kind of like the look of both. Should I do reforged with some things switched to classic or just play classic. I kinda like the new portraits in reforged since they look like the characters in WoW. Reforged graphics are dogshit.

Only acceptable way to play with Reforged graphics if you REALLY want to IMO is to enable them but keep Units, Heroes, and Icons to Classic HD. You get the nicer environments and neat effects but playability and readability is not as impacted. Also Enable "Classic sounds" in the menu if you enable them, it keeps death sounds consistent.

You can enable Reforged portraits, but they look like dogshit and you should appreciate the old ones.

You should also man up and play online. Join and quit 10 games in a row and then play in the sand box with other shitters. Low level games actually fun since you're both bad.

Alright, so with Undead you will need to not get Sacrificial Skull and instead opt for a Dust of Appearance from your shop if it's Blademaster. It's a little trickier with Cryptlord because of a lack of healing.

Make a 6th acolyte after your 5th and bind it to a hotkey and chuck it to your enemy base to scout.

If you see no Barracks and a War Mill, you're going to get hard harassed by Blademaster because he's likely rushing Wind Riders. Knowing this, you get a Rod of Necromancy and Dust of Appearance. Take two green camps, and on your second green camp drop Dust of Appearance on yourself before last hitting the main creep as he's likely gonna try to steal the XP and item. Keep doing this on your next orange camp. Pop Rod of Necromancy on cooldown, this is important cause it's going to be what has him fuck off. Observe which clone does more damage and commit until he runs away. When he does, creep orange camps. If you really shoved him off, invade his side of the map for an orange camp. Make sure to Tech 2 ASAP and make a Graveyard for Gargoyles. Lich 2nd is pretty good but if you're feeling lazy Pit Lord 2nd for Howl will let your gargoyles sweep Wind Riders.

Sometimes you'll see Blademaster with headhunters, so park your scout near enemy altar at the start to confirm. Pull all your ghouls from your treeline and sick them on the enemy army when they arrive. You put two ghouls on the enemy hero and kite. Run around in circles if you have to. When a ghoul gets to around 40% health, get it back onto the tree line for lumber. Making a few extra ghouls is OK if you forgot your Graveyard for Fiends, but you have to invade and slap around the hero to kill their Healing Salve. Damage against Blademaster and Far Seer sticks. At this point if you fended them off, you can choose what to do.

I have been having success if I just go fast fiends and stop fucking with ghouls at all. I hate ghouls, but I want to love them. They're so weak, you want them with frenzy and at least 2/2, but that's such an investment when Creature Attack upgrades scale more easily.

The sad truth is it hasn't been the same since Reforged. I burned so many great hours in Custom Games and roleplaying maps. I remember Skype calls, before Discord; back-logging our canon and scheduling games in Kingdoms & Nations, Titan Land, Azeroth Wars, Dark Age of Warcraft, etc..

Hell I got a fuckin' smokeshow Iraqi-Syrian GF out of it all who wrote like a badass and fucked like an animal. Shit, there were tons of talented writers and world-builders in this little tiny-ass community.

The era in which this game thrived, specifically it's custom scene, will never be replicated in the same way you can't ever go back in time. The way games are now are better in some ways, worse in many others, but a lot of that has to do with us being in different stages of our lives.

I feel the balance of Warcraft PvP is actually quite good, and the game is more interesting for it. But the Custom Games scene being peak back in the day is mainly because we didn't have a lot of tools or kits or easy access to create games. When people froth at the mouth about Blizzard's shit policy regarding IP rights in Custom Games, it's like, you're missing the point. Custom Games aren't coming back to the way they were no mater what the policy says. Custom Games now pale in comparison to what they were. At the very least people are playing Warcraft melee now. Back in the day no one cared about it since customs stole the spotlight utterly.

I definitely see it and don't deny it. It literally got that genre's formula to perfection. It truly is a flawless game but honestly Campaign and Custom Games will always be what I remember.

Having played the Campaign recently, it's aged mostly well. Some missions are just a drag though. Peak are the Undead and Night Elf campaigns, and TFT is better than RoC as a whole package.

Core WC3 PvP isn't flawless but close to it. Night Elf needs better unit variety and a nerf to their lumber rate but a buff to a few of their building's lumber cost.
Orc is actually in a good spot.
Undead needs the most buffs, but in multiple tiny ways.
Human is pretty good as well, most balanced IMO.
The mechanical requirements to play Warcraft 3 aren't much higher than Dota 2, just surprised it isn't more popular considering it plays like a super-MOBA that doesn't have you carrying 4 teammates every game.

Okay I held off on playing direct strike because it just looked like protect the lich king/nexus wars and I've already played those a billion times. But holy shit now that I've actually tried it I'm really fucking impressed. Another example of a custom game that would work perfectly as a mobile game if it doesn't exist already.

Undead is just the worst race thats kept down by butt hurt retards. Remember when blizzard was going to buff ghouls HP so they didn't instantly lose to Mountain King or Tauren Chieftan or anything and people cried over and over until blizzard walked back on the buffs. Its actually insane that people think footmen getting an extra 80 HP, 2 Armor all for the big disadvantage of costing 15 more gold and having .5 less DPS is balanced. You literally need a T3 tech just to make your basic melee unit usable as UD and shit like abominations are also worthless.

Its a faction entirely held up by 1 OP unit and good heroes
