I remember a couple days after i finished the swamp, i got the drakes raid and it was raining

Heh, you actually saved my "study". Something I forgot to add for this image is that the default circle in the middle with the 2 meter log side, has a radius of 5 meters. The next step for a bigger circle is the semicircle which will need a radius of 7.5 meters. To get the half meter needed for everything to clip nicely, I used the wooden door trick with the 3 clipping points. Later I will post a proper screenshot with my attempt to make a lighthouse, but so far it's disappointing. Not necessarily on how it looks, but more about how it works. The trees behind the lighthouse render before the lighthouse, and the flame renders last so it kinda beats its purpose of existence other than design...

>>1678885
I lost my 2 star pig stable during a bat raid, I didn't know these were a thing and I assumed they were safe from dragon raids since I put a roof. Bats flew through the tiny gaps around the roof and slaughtered them all. Now my one star pig stable is vacuum sealed.

Could you circle which bit needs the door trick?

idk why I never put it together that they could, I just assumed they couldn't
Anonymous No.1680608

This one, and the small red circle is where the half meter is added. Now, if the 7.5m radius circle is your base structure, you don't have to mess with the decimal radius, and just do a 15m diameter and start clipping stuff from there. But if you want to add a circular balcony on a smaller circular base structure, it's better if you do it with the radius just to be safe.

He's what I'd say about the Ashlands having done just about everything besides the boss.

Good
>Initial voyage and making landfall
It's a tense nonstop onslaught of enemies likely to overwhelm anybody who does it for their first time. Once you actually establish a foothold it feels like a mighty accomplishment.
>Flametal Mining and Basalt Bombs
It's also tense, requires coordination and preparation. Probably the least egregious progression material to aquire besides black metal.
>Enemy Design and Atmostphere
It feels like hell. I really like that the Askvins are fully grown Necks.
>New Gear
All of the new weapons armor and magic are awesome, my only criticism is that they restrict Dyrnwyn to 1 per server. Why?
>Grausten
The new build peices are awesome. It's nice grausten is available in such abundance.

Dissapointing
>Enemy Spawm Mechanics
The ways in which enemies spawn in are really transparent and immersion breaking. If you wade into the water Voltures and a Bonemaw will spawn out of thin air in front of you. If you walk back onto land suddenly a big wave of charred enemies will spawn and converge on you. It's clear there is a shoreline threshold there to always keep you under pressure no matter what you do, especially when you make landfall. Also why do charred enemies run away so often? It's also annoying.
>Fortresses
Compared to the initial landing, fortresses are a bit of a joke. Being able to use the battering ram and catapult is cool. But the catapult feels like a total novelty considering you get it only after you take on your first fortress and its more effective to launch your bros over the walls than it is to use the payloads they give you to break them. I'm also surprised there is no ward in the center of the fortress that stops people from simply building up and over the walls. Kind of defeats the purpose of the equipmeny beyond needing to break down the door in the central tower.

Hopefully the boss isn't a total pushover like the rest of them.

Guys... if I have "passive enemies" turned on, but I'm trying to level up my blood magic skellies... can I achieve that AFK? Like I tried to burn the dragrs with campfires to aggro them, but they would just walk around the fires... pufferfish? or would that instakill them? ... or maybe I just go into a different world with active enemies and the spawner turned on and just lvl there, I guess. Anyways, let me know if I'm not thinking of something.

>f I have "passive enemies" turned on, but I'm trying to level up my blood magic skellies... can I achieve that AFK?
I don't think so? Idk if your skellies are aggroing on the passive enemies in the first place since I've never used them, but if not, then you might be screwed. Draugrs are immune to poison dmg in any case, so idk if the pufferfish would even work - they might grab aggro but do no dmg? I'd go test it in a solo world with dev commands.

Honestly if you were just gonna afk grind the skill, you might as well give yourself xp with commands. At most I'd get it to like lvl 30 so it's not busted, but you'll still be doing 50% more dmg than at lvl 0.

I really like the mistlands. I like the crazy terrain. I like the glowy trees and shrooms. I like how it introduces magic and really makes a good case for it, since you can use stamina for jumping around the terrain and switch to eitr for fighting stuff, maintaining a nice balance of either one refilling while the other one is being drained. I like the angler fish!!!!! I like the creepy dungeons with secret doors and multiple levels. I like the hunt for the sealbreaker fragments. I like mining giant skulls.

I wish we could craft armor for the wolves so they weren't so squishy, or special food to boost their health.
Or at the very least make them retreat when low on health instead of doing a suicide charge against a berserker. I really want to bring my wolf along with me when exploring but they just die too easily.

Wolves were designed to be expendable, and probably why they will never get some armor. They are glass cannons, easily dishing out 200s and 400s of damage without stagger boost, for me to pull these numbers off I can only do that with a secondary attack after a parry. Not to mention that nothing stops you from having a full pack of them with you.
>I really want to bring my wolf along with me when exploring but they just die too easily.
My first 2star that I tamed still sits safely in his own dungeon. His children on the other hand have populated the nearby islands. I grab one every time I leave the base and I grab a couple when I move to a next island and want to establish a small base. Having a dawg nearby to oneshot everything from greylings to fulings when I'm out harvesting mats is pretty nice without having rocks thrown at me and knockbacking me all the time.

If pvp wasn't so shit I'd suggest factions, but that works poorly in this game I think.
I like to use a bunch of client-side mods that let me do things like rotate any piece in any direction, plant anything, dedicated armor slots in my inventory, diving underwater and so on, which work fine without affecting other players or being installed on the server, but that might be too "cheaty" for a purely vanilla server.

>we'd have to decide on world modifiers and whatnot together
I imagine jacking up the difficulty would help slow down people from individually progressing and outpacing everyone else, but it might also detract from the newbie experience if there were any fresh or casual players...
Having there be no map might also be interesting for slowing it all down and keeping everything communal, but that's just me
>I'm reticent to do mods b/c things breaking with updates is annoying
Sounds wise
>I always thought it would be fun to do a world where roles are broken up: miner, farmer, logger, etc, but that would require pretty consistent and dedicated people
Agreed, but at least the latter two jobs aren't too bad. Getting dedicated miners would be kind of a pain just because of how slow and lame it is imo

I also dunno how one would prevent people from joining with endgame characters other than the honor system, but that's a whole 'nother problem. I don't think it'd be much of an issue desu considering that everyone here seems pretty chill.

Free Build: is fun. But yeah it's kind of cheaty. Also you can skip a whole bunch of things b/c free. If we want to have an epic buildings server tho, we could go this way.
Passive enemies: I do this for the n00bs, but honestly.. it doesn't feel that great. And yeah that guy that is legally blind had glaucoma at birth; I guess back in the 80s their solution was to simply *remove the lenses from both eyes*, so this guy has been in bifocals for his entire life. On the plus side, his hearing is really great, and he has perfect pitch.
Resources: would people want that cranked up to make it less "grindy"?
Anyways, we can figure that out later when the server is ready to be wiped. Right now me and the frens are trying to find more sealbreaker fragments to fight the queen, and then do ashlands (which honestly is kind of nice with passive enemies..!), and then I can reset.

The server is being annoying right now with the steam update from the other day. Idk why, the last update went through just fine, and now this one is saying the server is offline and won't do the update reeeeeeeeeeee

For the future: I've been playing with 1.5 resources solo and it's quite comfy, though sometimes it can seem excessive greydwarf drops, mostly. That said, I imagine 2x wouldn't be much different since some things seem to round up anyway. What you could do is have increased resource gain for the first few days/week/two weeks, until everyone's out of the bronze age, then drop it back down to 1x?

Good luck on the sealbreaker hunt and with getting server wizardry to behave!

I have two things I do to make the copper age much, MUCH more bearable. First, I math out how much copper I need for the bare minimum of stuff required for progression:
>cauldron: 10 tin
>forge: 6 copper
>cooler: 10 copper
>mead ketill: 4 tin, 6 copper
>anvils: 2 bronze
>bronze axe: 8 bronze
>cultivator: 5 bronze
>adze: 3 bronze
>fermenter: 5 bronze
>karve: 4 bronze
All told, that's 41 tin, 76 copper. That's about three copper nodes, if you only get the part exposed to the surface and don't go digging up the whole thing, and 14 tin nodes.
Add another 8 tin and 16 copper per person if each of you want a bronze weapon, 10 per if you each want a bronze buckler I recommend making at least one buckler for the guy drawing archer aggro, so it'll be something more like 49 tin, 92 copper. Still about three copper nodes.

Secondly, I do basically no physical mining myself. I'll run through the black forest during the day do not do any mining at night if you want to avoid being swarmed by greyfaggots, they are unironically attracted to the sound of mining/logging and mark the copper deposits I find on the map with the thor's hammer symbol. I keep running around until I find a troll, then I lure him to the three deposits and get him to smash each one. Once he's done with one, I'll place a campfire or two around so that all the ore and stone doesn't despawn, then move on to the next site. Once I'm done, I'll either kill him, or lure him to go break some finewood and do the campfire thing again, then kill him.

Thirdly, if I think the bronze age is really gonna gonna be the cause of burnout, I turn the resource gain up to 2x, then switch it back down to 1x as soon as I'm ready to go to the swamp.

That said, there'd have to be some kind of gentleman's agreement to not go to the Deep North, just in case the update drops while the server's being hosted, just to prevent terrain generation issues from happening.

I believe there was discussion earlier in the thread about ground rules a server should have; it shouldn't be too hard to find.
>>1741551
Likely because of everything that isn't the ps2 era graphics; it's only the models and textures really that are low fidelity. The lighting, shadows, particles effects, post-processing, et cetera, are all pretty modern.

Behind the scenes I think it's mostly CPU-bound like everything these days.... I think the game naturally only runs on one core, and you need to paste in a couple lines to an .ini to tweak these issues.

I think so long as you didn't generate the as-of-then incompleted zones, they should generate properly if you went to explore them... ? They might generate with weird terrain, kinda like those old minecraft chunk errors where two bordering biomes would be sliced up like a cake.

That being said, I am not sure, so it's probably better to be safe than sorry, and to generate a new world. You can always turn on free build/no cost (one's a world modifier, the other's a console command) to make yourself a base, with all the amenities you had up to that point. There's probably a way to grab your old builds with mods and blueprint them into a new world, but I don't know anything about that.

Like the other anon said, you can change the resource drop rate. You can also lure a troll to chop all the wood you need, if you go running around the black forest looking for one. Also skip making a raft, unless you're making a one-way trip across a small channel to a new landmass you plan to build a base on. Any longer of a journey, or making back and forth trips, and you'll wanna kys.

I never played with ValheimRaft so I am fiddling with it, I want to build a mothership, I am no shipwright but its fun so far, beside that I tried to be light on extra content mods, and focused on stuff that compliments the main game. For extra equipment I use Therzie's Armory and Warfare + ValheimArmory and Dragooncapes, for building stuff I added Buildpieces and balrond_constr. I added OreMines to ease up mining and because the concept looked fun, and lastly Rune_Magic, which I always use, 'cause its one of the most organic and authenthic mod out there which easily could be the part of the main game. For player progression I added ImpactfulSkills which looked reasonable and VikingsDoSwim ofc, 'cause the base swimming system is dogshit. Huh, it's probably anti-aliasing doing that then. If you're looking to increase performance, turn AA off. Other options I'd recommend are;
>veg quality - low (kind of a resource hog and it makes stuff like mushrooms harder to see)
>DD/LoD - medium/high (whatever you can manage w/o lag)
>particle lights - low (I believe this effects how many particles things like fire and torches throw off, i.e. embers. fyi, light sources are a major contributor to lag, so try to be conservative with them)
>shadow quality - low (whatever you can manage w/o lag. notable resource hog)
>active point lights - low/medium (how many light sources can actually light up an area. to explain it better, imagine you have a big house with 4+ torches in it, spaced evenly apart. at the lowest APL setting, these torches will only illuminate the area around them if you're in close proximity. otherwise, the house will appear dark until you approach the next closest torch. sorry if i explained this poorly)
>active point light shadows - low (pretty self explanatory. like shadows, also a resource hog)
>bottom category - bloom should be fine but is up to personal preference (thought you might like it since you have sun shafts enabled), AA is also personal pref but honestly it just makes everything blurry while also dropping FPS, tessellation is ok but i don't notice it being disabled desu, and SSAO actually makes a decent difference while not being too resource intensive.

play around with these settings a little bit, but if you take anyway anything from this, drop AA. you could probably bump the render scale up to like 65% and get the same performance as 50% with it on, but the game will not only look better, but also be more crisp.

Out of morbid curiosity, I did do a lookaround. I am a eurofag, so I checked servers from this side. It was not a good run. The ingame server browser is practically useless, as I cannot filter servers by password protection(as I need one without it). Next I tried the steam server browser, which is much better, and Is able to filter. I tried to join the first 20 server that was withing 50-100ms connection range, had no player and no password. Either it said invalid version when I tried to connect(they probably didn't update the server for a long time), or just straight up didnt connect. I found 1, thats ONE Russian server that I was actually able to connect with a vanilla client, but it was obviously played thoroughly as it had a newbie room setup and portal system built out. Everything was labeled by cyrillic letters so I couldn't understand where I was heading so I just left.

depends on how wide your definition of "grind" is. i'd say it's as grindy as terraria, but without the 0.01% drops. that said, the early game wood grind can be kinda dull if you try and build beyond your means, and the copper grind can be where a lot of people start to burn out. desu i'd set the resource gain to x2 until you're out of the bronze age

>What is the problem with copper?
Mining those 3-4 nodes; each one has 138 parts, each with 50hp.
An avg. pickaxe swing will do 7-11 dmg, but let's just say it does 10 to make things simple.
>138 x 50 = 6900
>6900 / 10 = 690
You have to hit a copper deposit almost 700 times to fully destroy it, and then do that 3-4 more times, so roughly 2070-2760 swings.

This isn't even taking into account the time spent excavating the deposit itself out of the ground. Now, I hear you saying
>"You can just mine out the ground around the copper deposit and break it all in one piece"
This is still very time consuming, and it assumes the ore is going to cooperate in the first place by
>A. Spawning high enough to not be embedded below the minimum world height
>B. There isn't some invisible collision with the surrounding terrain you have to spent additional time troubleshooting
Even assuming that all this is twice as fast, that's still 345 swings per deposit, times 3-4, so 1035-1380 swings. All that without also taking into account time spent repairing picks, resting, fending off greydwarves, rain, etc.

tl;dr mining copper SUCKS

I would originally do this round yurt, or a youtube starter home build that was pretty comfy but realized once I got over copper I barely had room to function especially since now it's me and my son playing. Eventually I settled on doing just a viking longhouse. just find one that suits your style. Put an interior section with a roof immediately so you can still rest while you work. I really do suggest mixing up your 45s and 26s to make the roof less A-frame and have more flare. The build can be downsized if you dont want it so long. The longhouse will last a while even as long term storage while you build whatever "forever" home/castle you want

2:40 Q. Will there still be updates big or small after 1.0 release. A. Most likely.
8:04 Q. There will be more seasonal items added what do you want. A. I am a big Halloween type of guy.
7:24 - 7:54 Q. Reworking the boss powers? A. Yes, asking for input from players on twitter.
8:26 Q. Will there be more clothing, will there be more female armor. A. Yes, already working on it.

Extra cool in my opinion:
8:32 Q. Any type of interactable fence, door, drawbridge, trap. A. Yes.

Okay here it is. I encountered some problems regarding running ValheimPlus and ServerCharacters(incompatibility), so I ditched ValheimPlus. Which resulted in more mods, so it bacame a moderately modded server instead of a slightly. I was not really happy about it as I generally try to avoid too much bloat. It is what it is. I see how well the server holds up. There is a scheduled restart once every day at around 11:00AM UK-time.In theory it should not interfere with character saves and progression, as ServerCharacter makes backups and saves your char every 15 minutes. I tried to balance extra content that compliments the base game with QoL features. Nothing wild, I rather not strain the server yet. I strongly recommend to install r2modman, create a new profile, and download the mods there, quick and easy. No need to fiddle with configs the serverside sync will take care of that. If anyobody got questions regarding specific settings, ask here.

I think it helps that the game mechanics encourage making a cozy base. You have to have a roof for a lot of basic functions like setting spawn and workbench, you have to have fire to keep warm and dry off from rain, and the way that the rested bonus works encourages decorating. I think more base building games should incorporate mechanics like this, rather than only having buildings to defend from enemies.

I don't want to fuck with mods exclusively because they're too much work to set up. If it was through the Steam Workshop, I would. But anytime I need some third software I have to run, it sucks. Be it far from me to shill r2modman, but it might be the most user frendly and easy to use mod manager I have ever used in my life. It literally works just like steam workshop. It takes me to join ANY kind of modded server(if I have the modlist what to get) about 1-4 minutes. A three-toed sloth with down syndrome could set it up. Now, if one does not like to fiddle with mods all the time, and update it and whatnot or have a third party softwhere(walking down this path, logically speaking, Steam Workshop too is a kind of third party software), I can understand that. But to say its too much set up is a stretch.

Oh yes. Allow me to demonstrate with a short video and explain. There is a spell in Rune-magic called "Foundation Rune" which can be used to perfectly flatten terrain in a range, and the rune's central square governs at which level it flats. It is a powerful tool in Rune magic, capable of making holes and rise earthwalls alike, but it does not make the pickaxe or the hoe obsolate, as those can still be used for micro-terrain editing.

How do you get tamed boars from one location to another? Or rather, what's the best method? I have a bunch of boards I want to move from one base to another that's a few hundred meters or so apart, but I'm not sure how to do it.

Fire doesn't scare the tamed ones and I don't seem to be able to harpoon them. I read that the best way is to make a fence tunnel of sorts and vigorously push them along, but that seems like it would take forever given the distance.

Should I just search for more 2-star boars (the one's I want to move are 2-star)

>I have a bunch of boards I want to move from one base to another that's a few hundred meters or so apart
>I read that the best way is to make a fence tunnel of sorts and vigorously push them along
This is unfortunately one of only two ways that I am aware of, the other being:
>I don't seem to be able to harpoon them
When you open the crafting menu, there should be a couple of paired swords in the upper right hand corner of the UI. Toggle that to turn on friendly fire, which will now allow you to harpoon your tamed pigs. I will warn you though, harpooning them will count as a sneak attack, so it'll end up doing a surprising amount of damage and may even outright kill them if your spear skill is high enough. If you're able, try and lure a greyling or something into the pen so that the boars are "in combat", as that may stop them from receiving sneak attack dmg from your harpoon.

Assuming all that doesn't work, you are gonna be stuck doing the wooden chute method with fences, in which case I recommend only bringing two along to your new base. Once you get them breeding and have a sustainable amount, you can simply kill the rest of your original flock instead of trying to push all of them over, or simply leave them in case your new flock perishes due to an act of god.
>>1832093

I really don't know what to tell you guys. This is not the first time I made a block-trainer, and the skeletons never despawned for me before. You lure them away from a skele-spawner(for a few hundred meters at least), archers only, obviously, push them into the hole and profit. I have done so in my single player worlds multiple times. They never disappeared. Now, granted, I am doing this on the dedicated server I am hosting now, but even after I logged out for 3-4 hour, and then logged back in, the skeletons are there. There is a daily restart for the server, that might despawns them, but I doubt it. ALSO, this is my new favorite toy, rolling around at night sneak-shotting stuff is fun

So it turns out all I really needed to do was turn friendly fire on and harpoon them (thanks for the heads up on how to do that by the way). Luckily there wasn't any sneak attack damage and it only took out a small sliver of health. I now have 2 (two) moved boars where I need them to be and now I just have to make them a proper pen now.

It was fun as hell. It's still my favorite game ever. Thing is, after a couple months, a fucking neet of a guy had put in more than 200 hrs on the serv, while the rest of us with actual jobs could only play in oir spare time.
It got boring when he simply gave us advanced armor and weapons, and the thing got out of whack. We also were transporting materials from our own local servers, essentially cheating.
We eventually stopped playing and I ended up paying for the damn server for 3 more months.

Sucks ass. It's a truly great game. I tried to pull a couple of the others into a public server Jotunheim, which doesnt allow that kinda cheating. But nobody wanted to join, and I just don't like playing this game alone.

I believe fast forwarding time via sleeping does work, but you can only do it once the afternoon starts. I also recommend focusing on increasing your crop yield by turning most of your carrots into seeds first, before shifting into try to grow carrots as a food source. Try and shift into growing both at the same time once you reach your desired yield.

No, but some crops are biome exclusive; flax and barley can only grow in the plains, and the mushrooms can only grow in the mistlands, so I try to set up my final farm on a border between the two and have a portal nearby.

If it's the former then here's a pro-tip: make a ehole in the ground, place all the upgrades, then put a floor over the hole. Now you don't need to waste space in order to have a fully upgraded bench/forge/whatever.

If it's the latter, then just build what you need to and destroy the workbench when you're done. You don't need to leave it there.

I just spam workbenches all over the area when I build, and once I'm finished I remove the ones that aren't part of my workshop. You don't need a bench inside every building. If your house is constantly getting damaged enough to warrant having a bench for repairs then you need to get better defenses for your base.
For walls I tend to build them thick enough to just hide the workbenches inside of them. Or if I don't have a stonecutter and am still using palisade walls, I add little towers along the wall that can hide the workbenches inside them.

How do you make the hoe actually smooth terrain instead of making steps? Clicking a mildly steep slope (not rock textured yet) just makes a step of flat dirt in the middle of it with rocky edges, literally worse than if I did nothing.

Anonymous No.1869482 >>1869498

So it says, but it still won't remove those steps nor will it even fill minor potholes.
Actually leveling even a flat stretch sucks ass and is a constant cycle of raising the ground to fill minor dents, pickaxing them back down to the actual ground level, and hoping the hoe will finally smooth things out.
Just making the short path from meadows to the black forest was a miserable experience.
Anonymous No.1869498
>>1869482
Yeah terrain manipulation sucks ass since the hoe can only do a tiny bit of elevation on its own. Best way I've found to actually get shit properly flat is to place a floor on the ground, place your character on top of it, and then start flattening normally (without holding shift) so that it'll try to level it to where you're standing. And then just keep placing floors so that you never change your elevation at all.
I'd recommend looking at mods to help make it less frustrating. Can't remember the name of the one I used to have, but it let me change the radius and strength of the hoe, so if I set it to max strength I wouldn't have to click a gorillion times to fully flatten an area.
Anonymous No.1869558 >>1869864

When I was making a slope I had to be very careful about picking where to use the hoe. It's a very, very delicate system of "averaging out" the terrain until it actually smoothes out, and it takes god damn forever.

iirc, neither. maybe the wiki? all i know is that it's not common knowledge and not explained anywhere in-game.
>Are there other tips and tricks we should all know about that aren't obvious?
uhhh, these are some basic ones, but
>meadows
you can roll beech logs into birch/oak trees over and over to get finewood early
>black forest
you can (and should) use trolls to break the exposed tops of copper ore deposits, instead of trying to excavate the whole thing by hand with a pickaxe (you can also use trolls to break birch/oak trees). try and do mining and logging during the day, since there are more greydwarves at night, and they're attracted to the sound of logging/mining
>swamp
once you find 10 iron, take it back asap so that you can make a longship, which can carry much more iron than your karve. it's probably more efficient to fill all four slots in your karve with iron instead, but i'm impatient. using a cart to transport iron to your boat is also surprisingly not a bad idea, since most of the swamp is flat ground, you can still swim with it attached and it'll float, and it kinda acts like a shield that covers 180 degrees behind you, which helps deal with the throngs of archers
>mountains
a campfire can keep you from freezing to death if you run out of warm drank. wolves are faster than you in a straight line, but have trouble turning, so try and circle them if you're low on stamina. sprint in short bursts while doing so to let your stamina regen

that should cover you for a bit; i'm probably forgetting a few things, but i still hope this helps

also, try and kill anything else you see, because I believe each loaded biome has a limit to how many creatures can spawn in it at a time. by killing things you might open up a slot for it

Don't quote me, but I believe there are specific spots that are considered valid spawn points, so you'll usually see at least some kind of creature spawning around there each night. It's not 100% consistent, but it's better than nothing?

Anonymous No.1889551 >>1889557 >>1893227

It seems like there's some confusion happening here, so I'll try to help out
>Jerky lasts 10 minutes longer than the carrot and deer stews
Last I checked, jerky lasts for 30 min, while carrot and deer stews should last for 25.
I think of it like this, because it generally works out:
>Unrefined cooked meat lasts 20 min; deer meat, boar meat, etc.
>Unrefined veg lasts 15 min or less; red mushrooms, carrots, yellow mushrooms, etc.
>Most refined dishes (cooking pot) last 25 min; mincemeat stew, deer stew, carrot soup, etc.
There are exceptions that only last 20 min, but that's usually due to how easy they are to make. You should try and make refined foods your primary food source when adventuring, and unrefined when doing chores around your base like building or woodcutting. Good base foods are stuff like neck tails, honey, and boar jerky
>Jerkies last 30 min
>Special dishes can last 30 min
>Feasts last 50 min
Ideally, you should try and get your foods to last the same amount of time (25 min), but that's not always possible.
>Then they move stamina to potions which only last 2 minutes
Potions are more for emergencies or niche applications than meal replacements. When you say the Stamina Potion lasts 2 minutes, what's actually happening is that it gives you 80 stam. over 2 seconds, and then it goes on cooldown for 2 minutes. You'd typically use one of these if your rested bonus has run out, and you're out of stam. whilst in combat.

What I recommend is actually making Tasty Meads instead of Stam. Potions, which increase your stam. regen for 10 seconds, but incidentally only have a *cooldown* of 10 seconds. Most people skip making Tasty Meads because the kettle tooltip doesn't say what the cooldown is, and the Stam. Potion looks better stat-wise by comparison.
>Why did they make all the numbers not align at all?
Variety, I guess. Better foods generally last longer, so you're inclined to make them instead of the easy ones. You still can though.

You sail for like an hour, it is chill but mostly boring nothing so you forget to eat, finally get somewhere, get one shot by whatever new mob is nearby because you have 25 health while setting up a hut to put the portal in, and have to travel all the way there again.
Loading the previous save put me back at home too, except my boat is still where I landed.
What the fuck is the point of an autosave if it's going to spawn me at my bed rather than where I was when it saved?
This game is so frustrating.
I landed in adjacent meadows so nothing would fly out to my ship like last time, and it still sent enemies across a large field just to 1 tap me. Guess I should've sat my ass offshore and slowly healed up before touching grass, after sitting nearly afk in a boat for a long time who is going to want to wait for regen? It saves the world and character at the same time, so you'd be in the same spot as the boat if it worked correctly, but it put me at my last bed instead.
>how far were you?
Here is a map of the area, I wasn't actually heading to the swamp at the time, but to the elder directly before the swamp, so in that sense it is a really convenient spot, but a couple driggers walked across the field while I was at the shelter roughly where I marked, cutting trees along that southern edge of the meadows.
It is different waiting in place versus waiting for your boat to move forward.
Do manual saves preserve player location?

Pay attention to the notifications at the top about eating another bite. Or at least check in every 10-15 minutes of sailing to eat again.

Tip on boating: As soon as you disembark, make a portal. It doesn't need to be fancy. Portal back home, eat/rest up, then portal back to the new area so you can build in a better place.
Even better: portal back again with more portal materials so you have a fallback (don't forget to have a second portal linkage ready at your base).
Basically you should always have a "Travel" portal ready at home that can be quickly linked to once you get off the boat, then a second portal at home for whatever permanent/semi-permanent location you're going to.

Autosaves happen at the beginning of each day, so it probably just slapped you at home the last time you slept

Cutting trees is very loud and will attract mobs from very far away, causing them to become inquisitive and will make them come and investigate. Unfortunately this isn't really stated anywhere, it's more something you have to learn through experience. Ever noticed how at least one greyling will always seem to show up and bother you when logging in the meadows at the start of a run?
