>>1678630 (OP)Well shit, I was gonna drop a link in the last thread, but it archived as soon as I posted this one. Whoops.
I remember a couple days after i finished the swamp, i got the drakes raid and it was raining
Hot damn they killed me like 4 times. Good thing it happened in a port/outpost of mine so my pigs and base were safe.
>>1678885Yeah the airborne raids are brutal. Sometimes I'll skip killing bonemass so I don't have to deal with those
How do you find good modded servers
>>1678636Heh, you actually saved my "study". Something I forgot to add for this image is that the default circle in the middle with the 2 meter log side, has a radius of 5 meters. The next step for a bigger circle is the semicircle which will need a radius of 7.5 meters. To get the half meter needed for everything to clip nicely, I used the wooden door trick with the 3 clipping points. Later I will post a proper screenshot with my attempt to make a lighthouse, but so far it's disappointing. Not necessarily on how it looks, but more about how it works. The trees behind the lighthouse render before the lighthouse, and the flame renders last so it kinda beats its purpose of existence other than design...
>>1678885I lost my 2 star pig stable during a bat raid, I didn't know these were a thing and I assumed they were safe from dragon raids since I put a roof. Bats flew through the tiny gaps around the roof and slaughtered them all. Now my one star pig stable is vacuum sealed.
>>1678630 (OP)The shit in the OP pic looks even more basic than what we built right off the start in Valheim.
>>1679361>The next step for a bigger circle is the semicircle which will need a radius of 7.5 meters. To get the half meter needed for everything to clip nicely, I used the wooden door trick with the 3 clipping points.Could you circle which bit needs the door trick?
>spears can autoattack
idk why I never put it together that they could, I just assumed they couldn't
>>1680130This one, and the small red circle is where the half meter is added. Now, if the 7.5m radius circle is your base structure, you don't have to mess with the decimal radius, and just do a 15m diameter and start clipping stuff from there. But if you want to add a circular balcony on a smaller circular base structure, it's better if you do it with the radius just to be safe.
He's what I'd say about the Ashlands having done just about everything besides the boss.
Good
>Initial voyage and making landfall
It's a tense nonstop onslaught of enemies likely to overwhelm anybody who does it for their first time. Once you actually establish a foothold it feels like a mighty accomplishment.
>Flametal Mining and Basalt Bombs
It's also tense, requires coordination and preparation. Probably the least egregious progression material to aquire besides black metal.
>Enemy Design and Atmostphere
It feels like hell. I really like that the Askvins are fully grown Necks.
>New Gear
All of the new weapons armor and magic are awesome, my only criticism is that they restrict Dyrnwyn to 1 per server. Why?
>Grausten
The new build peices are awesome. It's nice grausten is available in such abundance.
Dissapointing
>Enemy Spawm Mechanics
The ways in which enemies spawn in are really transparent and immersion breaking. If you wade into the water Voltures and a Bonemaw will spawn out of thin air in front of you. If you walk back onto land suddenly a big wave of charred enemies will spawn and converge on you. It's clear there is a shoreline threshold there to always keep you under pressure no matter what you do, especially when you make landfall. Also why do charred enemies run away so often? It's also annoying.
>Fortresses
Compared to the initial landing, fortresses are a bit of a joke. Being able to use the battering ram and catapult is cool. But the catapult feels like a total novelty considering you get it only after you take on your first fortress and its more effective to launch your bros over the walls than it is to use the payloads they give you to break them. I'm also surprised there is no ward in the center of the fortress that stops people from simply building up and over the walls. Kind of defeats the purpose of the equipmeny beyond needing to break down the door in the central tower.
Hopefully the boss isn't a total pushover like the rest of them.
>>1680985>they restrict Dyrnwyn to 1 per server. Why?funny legendary sword (it's actually shit)
>>1680985>Hopefully the boss isn't a total pushover like the rest of them.I went solo melee and it was hell. Not impossible, but hard hard
Guys... if I have "passive enemies" turned on, but I'm trying to level up my blood magic skellies... can I achieve that AFK? Like I tried to burn the dragrs with campfires to aggro them, but they would just walk around the fires... pufferfish? or would that instakill them? ... or maybe I just go into a different world with active enemies and the spawner turned on and just lvl there, I guess. Anyways, let me know if I'm not thinking of something.
>>1682487>f I have "passive enemies" turned on, but I'm trying to level up my blood magic skellies... can I achieve that AFK?I don't think so? Idk if your skellies are aggroing on the passive enemies in the first place since I've never used them, but if not, then you might be screwed. Draugrs are immune to poison dmg in any case, so idk if the pufferfish would even work - they might grab aggro but do no dmg? I'd go test it in a solo world with dev commands.
Honestly if you were just gonna afk grind the skill, you might as well give yourself xp with commands. At most I'd get it to like lvl 30 so it's not busted, but you'll still be doing 50% more dmg than at lvl 0.
>playing first time in 3 years
>every mountain I see is surrounded by plains on all sides
>finally find one I can actually approach
>even has a moder waypoint
>sail there
>has mistlands all around it
What the fuck do I do now? Did I just get unlucky with the seed?
>>1683379Happened to some folks i know
If you dont mind turning on the metals thru portals, just run for it and pray.Be smart with portals and you may make it.
Otherwise just look at the map generator and find there a better mountain
>>1682816Ehhh just decided to make a zombie spawner killbox on a separate world with enemies active. I went from 20 to 35 with a lot of micromanagement, so I'll need to go in and fix it up later. Once it's AFK-able, it's so nice, bros. I got my last character up to blood magic lvl 80s this way.
>>1683379mislands is pretty far away from the center so just go in another direction, but also yeah you may have gotten a shit seed
I really like the mistlands. I like the crazy terrain. I like the glowy trees and shrooms. I like how it introduces magic and really makes a good case for it, since you can use stamina for jumping around the terrain and switch to eitr for fighting stuff, maintaining a nice balance of either one refilling while the other one is being drained. I like the angler fish!!!!! I like the creepy dungeons with secret doors and multiple levels. I like the hunt for the sealbreaker fragments. I like mining giant skulls.
Thanks for reading my blog.
I haven't played in a while. Plains was the farthest i made it but never did the boss. Would really like a small group to start fresh with.
>>1683379honestly that's not that bad
you can 1-shot the mosquitoes with a bow, lure the goblins into fighting stuff like wolves and greydwarves, and lox are easily avoided
>>1684314I'd enjoy a comfy /vm/ playthrough too, but I wouldn't be able to take part cuz I broke my hand lol
>>1684324Ouch what happened anon?
>>1684328replacing a few worn out shingles on my roof and I cracked my hand with the hammer
luckily it was the last one, so at least I won't have to worry about going back up there
>>1684177XQanEl5D2D
Moder mountain actually had sea access, so I got her.
I don't care how much people are praising root armor, or say they have to swap to padded once they reach plains. I'm still not gonna drop the Fenris. It looks good, movement speed is the best stat to have, cheap as fuck to upgrade, and looks good above all else.
>>1684599I'm doing much the same, but I plan on switching to carapace + eitr robe
>>1684576There was a moder mountain with black forest + meadows bordering it to the southwest of spawn, but you'd have to sail around a continent, and a mountain that didn't have moder directly west of the elder. If you don't mind spoilers, plug your seed into the map viewer in the OP
>>1684599I wear Fenris until I absolutly have to switch when combat is necessary, even in the ashlands. The voltures can't even keep up with you.
>fuling camp
>doggo by my side
>huntsman bow for stealth kills
>scouting the camp, searching for the shamans and taking them out silently, circling the camp and thinning their numbers with stealth kills
>popping bonemass buff when shit hits the fan
>parrying and almost oneshotting the berserks with one lunge attack of the sword
Yea, it's kino time.
>nearing the end of the content, just need to grind out a few more mats so people can get their upgrades
>could summon the eternal flame whenever we can "rally the troops"
>everybody stops signing on
>halls which were once filled with bros are now empty
>torches and hearths have gone dark
>I am alone in this world of death
Feels sad man. We never killed the queen when the mistlands update came out either.
>>1684867I wish we could craft armor for the wolves so they weren't so squishy, or special food to boost their health.
Or at the very least make them retreat when low on health instead of doing a suicide charge against a berserker. I really want to bring my wolf along with me when exploring but they just die too easily.
Why did they nerf mosquitos so hard?
>>1685295Wolves were designed to be expendable, and probably why they will never get some armor. They are glass cannons, easily dishing out 200s and 400s of damage without stagger boost, for me to pull these numbers off I can only do that with a secondary attack after a parry. Not to mention that nothing stops you from having a full pack of them with you.
>I really want to bring my wolf along with me when exploring but they just die too easily. My first 2star that I tamed still sits safely in his own dungeon. His children on the other hand have populated the nearby islands. I grab one every time I leave the base and I grab a couple when I move to a next island and want to establish a small base. Having a dawg nearby to oneshot everything from greylings to fulings when I'm out harvesting mats is pretty nice without having rocks thrown at me and knockbacking me all the time.
>>1684973Have any screenshots?
>>1685325Elaborate
GREYDWARFS WANTED SOME INITIATIVE, SET FIRE TO THEIR ENTIRE BIOME
I'M MOVIN' LIKE YAGLUTH
>>1685325Did they actually nerf them or are we all traumatized as newbies wearing half upgraded troll armors and getting clapped due to that? They still do around 30 damage each if you let them hit you but most of the times I'm aware of them and either raise my shield, or tap them with my weapon, snipe them from afar with a bow, or at worst case scenario do a roll.
>>1685325>>1685835cursory research says they used to do 85 dmg, got nerfed to 75, then buffed up to 90 currently
people died to them from what I assume to be under-preparedness and lack of quality food options that we now have today
>>1686522them in the plains was never a problem for me, it's them wandering into swamps and ass raping you when you're just try to get iron
>>1685835>or are we all traumatized as newbies wearing half upgraded troll armors and getting clapped due to that?>"Woah look at that big rock pillar over there">"let's race, last one to touch it is a faggot">"oh shit there's a bug coming I wonder wha--ACK">*OH SHIT OH FU--ACK*I will never forget that. I was just sitting on our brand new longboat watching disaster happening and wondering how we were gonna get their shit back and praying it didn't fly over and kill me.

so, whatcha think is gonna be in the great north?
>>1687942snow, ice and maybe some water
>>1687942Frost giants for sure
>>1687942More of those ice golem that hits hard
>>1687942I hope it will be more than just another mountain.
>>1687942Hopefully some cool animals like polar bears or mammoths
Raising animals for food falls off too quick, it should last at least 2 biomes not just 1
>>1689216raising pigs lets you make mincemeat sauce, turnip stews, sausages, etc. which can last you all the way up to mountains
wolf skewers can last you through the
mistlands, and this is also the tier when feasts start becoming viable
lox meat is wanting in terms of recipes tho I will admit, but at least the pies are basically sustainable, if inefficient serpent stews
Mistlands gave me cancer, ngl...
>>1690025Thanks for the warning. About to go there for the first time.
>>1690025The ashlands will give you aids
Unexpectedly stink bombs are the best weapon for killing rabbits.
>>1690025Just wait until you make landfall in the Ashlands lol
Hope you brought portal materials and have spare armor and weapons at home
>>1691021Frost staff is good for rabbit hunting!
>>1691021as is laying down spikes in areas you often see rabbits in
The hellbomb backpack is the best thing they have added to the game.

>>1695422you got poop, you can win
>>1695456Somebody left and ooze on my bed once and my first thought was "wtf there's shit in this game?" I had just never seen the ooze model outside of the swamp before.
>>1695422Why is everything so blurry? Is that the work of AA, or are you trying to upscale the resolution?
>>1696148I'm playing on a potato.
>>1696159I am too, but mine's crystal clear and grainy instead of blurry. Pretty sure you can set the resolution to whatever's native for your monitor, and then lower the resolution scale for similar performance. Not trying to bash you, just trying to help out. Then again idk what works for your setup so
>>1678630 (OP)https://youtu.be/K4DDLgIJyOs
>>1696248I don't mind that they are taking their time. I've enjoyed the Mistlands and the Ashlands and the wait times are long enough that my friends have felt like replaying it multiple times.
I tried messing around with some conteny mods last week and most of them are missing a level of quality that the swedes end up achieving.
>>1696447agreed for the most part, I just thought it was funny
>pack all my shit on a boat

>>1696803>not approaching the mistlands from a neighboring biomeyou FOOL
Queen fight is pretty insane.
>>1678630 (OP)Sealed Towers should have a guaranteed Yagluth Vegvisir at the top; yes/no?
So tired of looking for these 1/100 stone-henge structures.
>>1698900It also can spawn at smaller structures. Like 3 stone gate, or those little stairs with a chest at the top.
But yes, it is too rare. Most of the time I stumble upon the altar itself before finding any vegvisir.
>>1699312Oh I know it can spawn at the smaller structures, I'm asking if you guys think it should also spawn at the top of sealed towers
>>1696447>install whatever the most popular weapon and armor mod is>end up with base game stuff anyway
debating whether to cheat in the fishing hat, or try to get it legitimately ASAP in a playthrough. I imagine magmafish are going to be a gigantic pain due to needing to deal with
>voltures
>bonemaws
>boiling sea
Even with the release of the deep north, we won't get a server, will we
I am scared to go to Ashlands.
>>1701613We will if you make one.
>>1701845>I am scared to go to Ashlands.Same, especially when I hear that the gear kind of sucks because lolgems
>>1701613I'll probably play it with a small group of people I know, doesn't seem like it'd be good to play with strangers since resources don't respawn and are vital for progression.
>day 250
>finally sailing to ashlands
>get there by night
>storm
>bonemaw
>nope the fuck out of there
>return by morning
>kill a lonely marksman, place portal and shield
>huh, it's not so bad so far...
>suddenly a whole army shows up
>fight the never-ending battle
>realize there is some glowing pillar nearby and maybe landing here was a bad idea
Clearing out the spawner actually made things manageable.
And then 1* warrior walked up to my camp, one shot me, and broke the portal.
>>1704404I employed the good old raised earth tactic to keep the portal out of range of the melee mobs.
If the devs haven't given the enemies any way to reasonably respond to that by now I don't think they ever will. And I didn't want to use it anymore but they ashlands had me resorting to it once again.
>>1704410I built a raised earth wall around the camp for the first time ever. Because fuck that place.
Anyone try maining knives? Do they fall off in the ashlands? The last ones you get are skoll & hati in the mistlands, and the bonebois in the ashlands resist pierce
>>1701613Ehh I pay for an always-online server, but I'm playing with some IRL frens on it. When they get bored, I guess I can wipe it and post a new world on here for anons. But I feel like we'd have to decide on world modifiers and whatnot together. I'm reticent to do mods b/c things breaking with updates is annoying. I always thought it would be fun to do a world where roles are broken up: miner, farmer, logger, etc, but that would require pretty consistent and dedicated people. Idk throw out some ideas.
>>1705452i promise i won't do anything bad if you let me in
>>1705498What, like now? It's on EZ mode cause these frens are n00bs and bad at combat (to be fair, one of them is legally blind/lacks lenses in his eyes).
Also, cross play is turned off b/c it lags it up if it's on, so: PC masterrace only
I thought fulings pawning in meadows was retarded, but now seekers too?!
>>1705452I like the idea of roles but I would not be able to play consistently due to work, so my ore/crop/wood output would be unreliable.
If pvp wasn't so shit I'd suggest factions, but that works poorly in this game I think.
I like to use a bunch of client-side mods that let me do things like rotate any piece in any direction, plant anything, dedicated armor slots in my inventory, diving underwater and so on, which work fine without affecting other players or being installed on the server, but that might be too "cheaty" for a purely vanilla server.
>>1705452That's very gracious of you anon
>we'd have to decide on world modifiers and whatnot togetherI imagine jacking up the difficulty would help slow down people from individually progressing and outpacing everyone else, but it might also detract from the newbie experience if there were any fresh or casual players...
Having there be no map might also be interesting for slowing it all down and keeping everything communal, but that's just me
>I'm reticent to do mods b/c things breaking with updates is annoyingSounds wise
>I always thought it would be fun to do a world where roles are broken up: miner, farmer, logger, etc, but that would require pretty consistent and dedicated peopleAgreed, but at least the latter two jobs aren't too bad. Getting dedicated miners would be kind of a pain just because of how slow and lame it is imo
I also dunno how one would prevent people from joining with endgame characters other than the honor system, but that's a whole 'nother problem. I don't think it'd be much of an issue desu considering that everyone here seems pretty chill.
>>1705676>one of them is legally blind/lacks lenses in his eyesD:
>Also, cross play is turned off b/c it lags it up if it's on, so: PC masterrace onlyBased, but only because I can't join crossplay servers due to missing windows redist files
>>1705930Just wait until the Ashlands...
At least you can spawn-proof your base area by spamming workbenches: nothing can spawn within the building radius. Campfires work too, but you can't see their area of effect
>>1706102>picked a random image>it was shitWhoops
>>1706100I basically live a NEET lifestyle, but I do have a bunch of things coming up this summer. So I'm not sure how often I'll be able to play either.
I don't care if other people want to use mods or whatever--I'm just not going to install them on the server.
>>1706102Free Build: is fun. But yeah it's kind of cheaty. Also you can skip a whole bunch of things b/c free. If we want to have an epic buildings server tho, we could go this way.
Passive enemies: I do this for the n00bs, but honestly.. it doesn't feel that great. And yeah that guy that is legally blind had glaucoma at birth; I guess back in the 80s their solution was to simply *remove the lenses from both eyes*, so this guy has been in bifocals for his entire life. On the plus side, his hearing is really great, and he has perfect pitch.
Resources: would people want that cranked up to make it less "grindy"?
Anyways, we can figure that out later when the server is ready to be wiped. Right now me and the frens are trying to find more sealbreaker fragments to fight the queen, and then do ashlands (which honestly is kind of nice with passive enemies..!), and then I can reset.
The server is being annoying right now with the steam update from the other day. Idk why, the last update went through just fine, and now this one is saying the server is offline and won't do the update reeeeeeeeeeee
>>1706102ServerCharacter mod can help with restraining player powercurve somewhat, also encourages online play and progress, instead of cheating shit in singleplayer.
>>1706748For the future: I've been playing with 1.5 resources solo and it's quite comfy, though sometimes it can seem excessive greydwarf drops, mostly. That said, I imagine 2x wouldn't be much different since some things seem to round up anyway. What you could do is have increased resource gain for the first few days/week/two weeks, until everyone's out of the bronze age, then drop it back down to 1x?
Good luck on the sealbreaker hunt and with getting server wizardry to behave!
>>1707653Hopefully we can make some progress this weekend on the mistlands.
And apparently the server host website doesn't like brave browser for steam updates :/
>>1704647Skoll and Hati is fun. I just switched to magic when I hit mistlands tho--leveled that up for ashlands, where magic is NICE
how hard would it be for me to set up a dedicated server on my shitty extra computer

>>1708462oh i know how to forward ports

>>1708496Then that's half the battle - I don't know the rest because I'm a luddite
>>1708553i have to actually do it first
>>1707812>for ashlands, where magic is NICEWhat do you use? I assumed everything will be resistant to fire, so I packed ice for the landfall. But both staff of frost and staff of fracturing suck ass, so I'm back to throwing fireballs.
>>1708554https://valheim.com/support/a-guide-to-dedicated-servers/
>>1709211I guess the joke is that they aren't resistant to fire after all! Staff of frost is actually ok, but you have to put in the time to lvl elemental magic on a golem first anyway. I have a fortress in view now, so gonna try to get that later today and hopefully get the poison vine staff.
>>1709194You got the whole weekend to figure it out, bro. I believe in you!
>>1709285>they aren't resistant to fire after all!they are, the staff of embers just does 50% blunt dmg and 50% fire dmg
reminder that you only need about lvl 30 in a weapon skill to be doing 50% more dmg
>>1710087High lvl blood magic is worth it tho. That bubble is nice padding.
>>1710108oh no doubt, some people just get disenfranchised when they see how long it'll take to lvl something to like, 50 or 70 or so

>>1711461I'd say June-July at the earliest?

Not too bad as a magic user. Poison staff takes him down pretty fast.
But I see how meeleing him would be a nightmare.
Seems like we made it through our darkest hour.
Anyway, knife anon here, and I'd just like to say: man, this sucks. No wonder nobody uses these damn things. I kinda shot myself in the foot by setting the difficulty to hard, but still, dealing with groups is awful. I'm sure it'll pick up once I can find a leviathan or two for the OP razor.
Not even two days back and the catalog is already being flooded by bots advertising dead as fuck anarchy minecraft servers
>>1678630 (OP)Anyone find their pet rocks yet? Any tips?
>start with friends
>have an okay time until we need copper
>collective sigh and grumbling about the slow farming
>next play session never happens
Either our attention spans got fried over the years or the pace sucks. Maybe both.
>>1727278I have two things I do to make the copper age much, MUCH more bearable. First, I math out how much copper I need for the bare minimum of stuff required for progression:
>cauldron: 10 tin>forge: 6 copper>cooler: 10 copper>mead ketill: 4 tin, 6 copper>anvils: 2 bronze>bronze axe: 8 bronze>cultivator: 5 bronze>adze: 3 bronze>fermenter: 5 bronze>karve: 4 bronzeAll told, that's 41 tin, 76 copper. That's about three copper nodes, if you only get the part exposed to the surface and don't go digging up the whole thing, and 14 tin nodes.
Add another 8 tin and 16 copper per person if each of you want a bronze weapon, 10 per if you each want a bronze buckler I recommend making at least one buckler for the guy drawing archer aggro, so it'll be something more like 49 tin, 92 copper. Still about three copper nodes.
Secondly, I do basically no physical mining myself. I'll run through the black forest during the day do not do any mining at night if you want to avoid being swarmed by greyfaggots, they are unironically attracted to the sound of mining/logging and mark the copper deposits I find on the map with the thor's hammer symbol. I keep running around until I find a troll, then I lure him to the three deposits and get him to smash each one. Once he's done with one, I'll place a campfire or two around so that all the ore and stone doesn't despawn, then move on to the next site. Once I'm done, I'll either kill him, or lure him to go break some finewood and do the campfire thing again, then kill him.
Thirdly, if I think the bronze age is really gonna gonna be the cause of burnout, I turn the resource gain up to 2x, then switch it back down to 1x as soon as I'm ready to go to the swamp.

I believe there was discussion earlier in the thread about ground rules a server should have; it shouldn't be too hard to find.
>>1741551Likely because of everything that isn't the ps2 era graphics; it's only the models and textures really that are low fidelity. The lighting, shadows, particles effects, post-processing, et cetera, are all pretty modern.
Behind the scenes I think it's mostly CPU-bound like everything these days.... I think the game naturally only runs on one core, and you need to paste in a couple lines to an .ini to tweak these issues.

Is it worth making a new world if I generated mine way back at launch? I still haven't done anything with Mistlands or beyond content., and I kind of just feel like I don't want to keep building up my fortresses on an obsolete gen.
>>1742113I think so long as you didn't generate the as-of-then incompleted zones, they should generate properly if you went to explore them... ? They might generate with weird terrain, kinda like those old minecraft chunk errors where two bordering biomes would be sliced up like a cake.
That being said, I am not sure, so it's probably better to be safe than sorry, and to generate a new world. You can always turn on free build/no cost (one's a world modifier, the other's a console command) to make yourself a base, with all the amenities you had up to that point. There's probably a way to grab your old builds with mods and blueprint them into a new world, but I don't know anything about that.

Nice bote! I weep for the water damaged floorboards though, but I suppose it can't be helped. IIRC, if you build in the mountains, you don't have to deal with rain damaging uncovered builds; food for thought.
I kinda wanna play valheim, i havent touched the game in like 2-3 y ears (i honestly dont remember how long but at least a year and a half) but i remember back when i played it took so long to get resources to make 1 tiny shack and sailing around was also super slow, at least in single player, has this changed? i dont have friends to play with
>>1743047You can increase resource drops in world settings at any time.
>>1743047Like the other anon said, you can change the resource drop rate. You can also lure a troll to chop all the wood you need, if you go running around the black forest looking for one. Once you're done with the troll, you can just lure him back into the black forest and lose him by weaving through trees, aggro him on skeletons guarding a crypt, or try to kill him.
Also skip making a raft, unless you're making a one-way trip across a small channel to a new landmass you plan to build a base on. Any longer of a journey, or making back and forth trips, and you'll wanna kys.
I remember a big hurdle in the beginning was not knowing about different types of wood existing.

>>1744705Yeah, magic was added back when Mistlands released, and was expanded upon in the Ashlands update. Unfortunately, it's only available once you reach the two last biomes, but I believe an anon worked out a compromise last thread. Based on the amount of progression he had achieved, he'd allow himself to spawn in a piece or two of magic gear, so that it wasn't stuck all the way at the end of the game.

>veg quality - low (kind of a resource hog and it makes stuff like mushrooms harder to see)>DD/LoD - medium/high (whatever you can manage w/o lag)>particle lights - low (I believe this effects how many particles things like fire and torches throw off, i.e. embers. fyi, light sources are a major contributor to lag, so try to be conservative with them)>shadow quality - low (whatever you can manage w/o lag. notable resource hog)>active point lights - low/medium (how many light sources can actually light up an area. to explain it better, imagine you have a big house with 4+ torches in it, spaced evenly apart. at the lowest APL setting, these torches will only illuminate the area around them if you're in close proximity. otherwise, the house will appear dark until you approach the next closest torch. sorry if i explained this poorly)>active point light shadows - low (pretty self explanatory. like shadows, also a resource hog)>bottom category - bloom should be fine but is up to personal preference (thought you might like it since you have sun shafts enabled), AA is also personal pref but honestly it just makes everything blurry while also dropping FPS, tessellation is ok but i don't notice it being disabled desu, and SSAO actually makes a decent difference while not being too resource intensive.play around with these settings a little bit, but if you take anyway anything from this, drop AA. you could probably bump the render scale up to like 65% and get the same performance as 50% with it on, but the game will not only look better, but also be more crisp.

>>1756911That just reminded me that it's pride month.
>>1783406>What is the problem with copper?Mining those 3-4 nodes; each one has 138 parts, each with 50hp.
An avg. pickaxe swing will do 7-11 dmg, but let's just say it does 10 to make things simple.
>138 x 50 = 6900>6900 / 10 = 690You have to hit a copper deposit almost 700 times to fully destroy it, and then do that 3-4 more times, so roughly 2070-2760 swings.
This isn't even taking into account the time spent excavating the deposit itself out of the ground. Now, I hear you saying
>"You can just mine out the ground around the copper deposit and break it all in one piece"This is still very time consuming, and it assumes the ore is going to cooperate in the first place by
>A. Spawning high enough to not be embedded below the minimum world height>B. There isn't some invisible collision with the surrounding terrain you have to spent additional time troubleshootingEven assuming that all this is twice as fast, that's still 345 swings per deposit, times 3-4, so 1035-1380 swings. All that without also taking into account time spent repairing picks, resting, fending off greydwarves, rain, etc.
tl;dr mining copper SUCKS
>>1678630 (OP)Anyone feel like posting their starter houses? Is there a go-to design you usually build just to have a place to lay your head and store your garbage, that isn't a lean-to?
>>1789019I would originally do this round yurt, or a youtube starter home build that was pretty comfy but realized once I got over copper I barely had room to function especially since now it's me and my son playing. Eventually I settled on doing just a viking longhouse. just find one that suits your style. Put an interior section with a roof immediately so you can still rest while you work. I really do suggest mixing up your 45s and 26s to make the roof less A-frame and have more flare. The build can be downsized if you dont want it so long. The longhouse will last a while even as long term storage while you build whatever "forever" home/castle you want

No, but I want to know if we're gonna have a server at that point. Alternatively, the question remains, what if someone infiltrated a password protected server hosted by like r/valheim and dropped the info here

Apparently devs did an interview
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Zs2dJ976cw
2:40 Q. Will there still be updates big or small after 1.0 release. A. Most likely.
8:04 Q. There will be more seasonal items added what do you want. A. I am a big Halloween type of guy.
7:24 - 7:54 Q. Reworking the boss powers? A. Yes, asking for input from players on twitter.
8:26 Q. Will there be more clothing, will there be more female armor. A. Yes, already working on it.
9:30 Q. Any work/improvements to oceans. A. Maybe.
Extra cool in my opinion:
8:32 Q. Any type of interactable fence, door, drawbridge, trap. A. Yes.
17:37 A. At every like 10 skill points in a weapon you would get a bonus type alternate attack.
18:31 - 19:07 - Changing how death effects skill points. Really cool ideas in this section!
Hard No:
10:57 A. There will be NO cavemaking in Valheim. Engine does not support.
11:21 A There will be NO blueprints for building. Use mods.
11:39 Q. Will there be any early magic options (before mistlands). A. No.

Reminder to future me:
use the small doorway offset to place pillars around big doors and windows for depth

Allright. I am working on a server. It will be slightly modded. Server-side characters, somewhat normallish diff, hard diff really a hit and miss, I just generally do not think that getting one-shotted left and right is a fun gameplay mechanic. Double resources for sure. I payed for 3 months, 10 player slot. It was incredibly cheap, UK-based so fags from east-coast might be able to join and play too. I am actually curious how it wiill hold up. No ETA yet as I never done dedicated server before so I learn and try how to setup stuff correctly as I go. And please spare me with the setting/modrequests for now, I would just be happy IF I can get it running as I want it first

Okay here it is. I encountered some problems regarding running ValheimPlus and ServerCharacters(incompatibility), so I ditched ValheimPlus. Which resulted in more mods, so it bacame a moderately modded server instead of a slightly. I was not really happy about it as I generally try to avoid too much bloat. It is what it is. I see how well the server holds up. There is a scheduled restart once every day at around 11:00AM UK-time.In theory it should not interfere with character saves and progression, as ServerCharacter makes backups and saves your char every 15 minutes. I tried to balance extra content that compliments the base game with QoL features. Nothing wild, I rather not strain the server yet. I strongly recommend to install r2modman, create a new profile, and download the mods there, quick and easy. No need to fiddle with configs the serverside sync will take care of that. If anyobody got questions regarding specific settings, ask here.

>>1812272>If I don't find one by the time I'm settling in the swamp, I just look it up.see I'm trying to get out of that habit so that I don't rely on it, since you can't do that on a multiplayer server without knowing the seed, which realistically nobody will know except the host
>>1812461>moddedI wish you the best of luck and no technical difficulties hostman
>>1813748Well, theoretically more people = more ground explored fast. So you'll be fine.
Is there anything wrong with this floorplan for a house? I'll take suggestions for moving stuff around, but I'd prefer to keep the fireplace where it is because the chimney's already set up.

>>1814650I want them to add yagluth vegvisirs on top of the sealed towers so that you actually have a reason to go there instead of beelining to the bottom floor.
Vegvisirs for the traders would also be appreciated, to avoid burnout. Dunno where you'd put them; maybe in some new abandoned structures?

>>1814355Too small. You need shitton of space for all crafting stations and upgrades.
there was a free weekend of len's island that people said was like isometric valheim
i tried it but it was very uninspired, generic rock puncher
the combat was slightly more deep than a kiddie pool
how much better is valheim?
i kinda like vrising but only for the combat and don't really like rock punching or the base building or the we want the rust pvp audience stuff
>>1815172Probably not what you're looking for. Gathering resources to build up your base is pretty big part of the game. But you can crank up the resource drops or even turn on no cost building.
There are combat improvements promised in the next update, but at this time I wouldn't call combat complex or super deep.
>>1815152I usually place the upgrades on another floor
Has anyone tried this
>>1812461 serb, or have they been avoiding it because they don't want to fuck w/ mods?
>>1747532I think it helps that the game mechanics encourage making a cozy base. You have to have a roof for a lot of basic functions like setting spawn and workbench, you have to have fire to keep warm and dry off from rain, and the way that the rested bonus works encourages decorating. I think more base building games should incorporate mechanics like this, rather than only having buildings to defend from enemies.
>>1812461What happens if you try to connect without downloading the mods?
>>1819705You cannot, it's simply just wont connect ya.
>>1815196Is the detection spherical or cylindrical?
>>1817929I don't want to fuck with mods exclusively because they're too much work to set up. If it was through the Steam Workshop, I would. But anytime I need some third software I have to run, it sucks. Stardew Valley, Minecraft, the mods make everything into a huge ordeal just to start playing and half the time I don't even want to play by the time I get everything to load correctly.
>>1820053I believe it's spherical, but the detection range is large enough that it's never been an issue
>>1820433Be it far from me to shill r2modman, but it might be the most user frendly and easy to use mod manager I have ever used in my life. It literally works just like steam workshop. It takes me to join ANY kind of modded server(if I have the modlist what to get) about 1-4 minutes. A three-toed sloth with down syndrome could set it up. Now, if one does not like to fiddle with mods all the time, and update it and whatnot or have a third party softwhere(walking down this path, logically speaking, Steam Workshop too is a kind of third party software), I can understand that. But to say its too much set up is a stretch.
>>1820911>walking down this path, logically speaking, Steam Workshop too is a kind of third party softwareThat's true, but I generally run my games from Steam even without workshop because I own a majority of my games through Steam and there's other featuresI use it for.

I made a canal, that connects my inland base with the sea. I love building shit like this
>>1824267Absolute madlad. I can only imagine the headache of trying to mine out the canal deep enough without making it so deep that you start swimming; that ramp must've taken a minute too.
The craziest thing I've done is manually place a bunch of spiked walls so they follow the terrain, which cannot compare.
What's that rune in your 1st slot btw? And the plumb-bob in your 8th?
>>1824516I am playing on modded, so the canal was not that hard to make, it was more time consuming than anything. On my first slot is a rune-focus, the main tool you use in the Rune-magic mod, and on the last slot is building hammer added by VALKEA mod, its an extra deco and buildpiece mod, and it got its own hammer so it wont bloat your base building hammer menu.
>>1824603>I am playing on modded, so the canal was not that hard to makeis there like some sort of bulldozer thing that makes it easier than pickaxing out the whole canal and flattening it with a hoe?
>>1825968Oh yes. Allow me to demonstrate with a short video and explain. There is a spell in Rune-magic called "Foundation Rune" which can be used to perfectly flatten terrain in a range, and the rune's central square governs at which level it flats. It is a powerful tool in Rune magic, capable of making holes and rise earthwalls alike, but it does not make the pickaxe or the hoe obsolate, as those can still be used for micro-terrain editing.

Aaand done. The server's first block-training camp is ready, now in winter theme, 'cause fuck summer. All is left to seal it completely with earthwalls, so golems, dogs and other asshats wont find their way in.
>>1678630 (OP)Is messing with LODbias in the console and draw distance in settings the same thing? Trying to tweak things purely vanilla for some fps
How do you get tamed boars from one location to another? Or rather, what's the best method? I have a bunch of boards I want to move from one base to another that's a few hundred meters or so apart, but I'm not sure how to do it.
Fire doesn't scare the tamed ones and I don't seem to be able to harpoon them. I read that the best way is to make a fence tunnel of sorts and vigorously push them along, but that seems like it would take forever given the distance.
Should I just search for more 2-star boars (the one's I want to move are 2-star)
>>1831027How do you prevent them from despawning? Mods or console commands?
>>1832086They do not despawn, ever. No mod or console command needed.
>>1832082>I have a bunch of boards I want to move from one base to another that's a few hundred meters or so apart>I read that the best way is to make a fence tunnel of sorts and vigorously push them alongThis is unfortunately one of only two ways that I am aware of, the other being:
>I don't seem to be able to harpoon themWhen you open the crafting menu, there should be a couple of paired swords in the upper right hand corner of the UI. Toggle that to turn on friendly fire, which will now allow you to harpoon your tamed pigs. I will warn you though, harpooning them will count as a sneak attack, so it'll end up doing a surprising amount of damage and may even outright kill them if your spear skill is high enough. If you're able, try and lure a greyling or something into the pen so that the boars are "in combat", as that may stop them from receiving sneak attack dmg from your harpoon.
Assuming all that doesn't work, you are gonna be stuck doing the wooden chute method with fences, in which case I recommend only bringing two along to your new base. Once you get them breeding and have a sustainable amount, you can simply kill the rest of your original flock instead of trying to push all of them over, or simply leave them in case your new flock perishes due to an act of god.
>>1832093>They do not despawn, ever. No mod or console command needed.NTA, but why and/or how? Enemies generally despawn when they're out of render distance.
>>1832120Thanks for the tips anon. I'll give that a try and see how far I get.

>>1832111>>1832129I really don't know what to tell you guys. This is not the first time I made a block-trainer, and the skeletons never despawned for me before. You lure them away from a skele-spawner(for a few hundred meters at least), archers only, obviously, push them into the hole and profit. I have done so in my single player worlds multiple times. They never disappeared. Now, granted, I am doing this on the dedicated server I am hosting now, but even after I logged out for 3-4 hour, and then logged back in, the skeletons are there. There is a daily restart for the server, that might despawns them, but I doubt it. ALSO, this is my new favorite toy, rolling around at night sneak-shotting stuff is fun
>>1832154It could be that spawner-origin enemies don't despawn, which would solve the mystery
>>1832120>>1832129So it turns out all I really needed to do was turn friendly fire on and harpoon them (thanks for the heads up on how to do that by the way). Luckily there wasn't any sneak attack damage and it only took out a small sliver of health. I now have 2 (two) moved boars where I need them to be and now I just have to make them a proper pen now.

Greetings and a mighty fine day to everyone. Hostanon here. The modded server got some minor updates. XPortal mod got ditched in favor of TargetPortal, which provide more utility as portals can be separated to private and public, so anyone can still enjoy a modded playtrough without the distraction of the TargetPortal's shared portal system. DragoonCapes got a minor update, which is now live on the server too. There is still about 2 and a half month left of this server rent, so there is plenty of time still to goof around(I will probably extend this when Deep North drops). The last 3 boss is still alive. >>1853870Have not obtained corewood before
I must have missed them soimehow
>>1853873You get corewood from pine trees, they're the really tall trees in the black forest.
>>1853877Never dawned on me to cut down pine trees
>>1853900You'll miss out on a lot of recipes if you don't try harvesting every new resource you find. Be sure to chop down every new type of tree you find.
>>1853900I'd say it also doesn't help that pines are rarer and look nearly identical to fir unless you get up close.

>>1854467Admittedly I should've noticed the leaves and branch placement before, but I've only ever noticed the shape and texture. They're both fairly close in thickness, so the thing that stuck out to me was the bark texture. I guess I was really used to being able to tell beech/birch apart because they're so different. Same goes for oak since that's thick as fuck.
>>1853866holy pins batman
I do the same thing
>>1854467>>1854528is this what they mean when they say someone misses the forest for the trees?
>>1855686Perhaps, but I am just being retarded.
How do you guys like to organize your inventory?

>>1854528>>1855686>>1855883If you're not from somewhere where pines and fir dominate the forests, it's just not obvious to think they're different trees unless you compare the needles and cones.
I live just below the nordic circle and even I didn't cut down pines until I started wondering why I have so little recipes on my second run.

Recommended mods for a 2nd play through? Preferably minor changes without bloat.
Is there basically no way to make crops grow faster? No light mechanics, no water?
>>1866644>speedI believe fast forwarding time via sleeping does work, but you can only do it once the afternoon starts. I also recommend focusing on increasing your crop yield by turning most of your carrots into seeds first, before shifting into try to grow carrots as a food source. Try and shift into growing both at the same time once you reach your desired yield.
>mechanicsNo, but some crops are biome exclusive; flax and barley can only grow in the plains, and the mushrooms can only grow in the mistlands, so I try to set up my final farm on a border between the two and have a portal nearby.
>>1866644It takes 2 or 3 ingame days to grow, so you can just sleep.
Plants also grow while you're away exploring.
>>1866906>>1867042Well that sucks. Waiting on all the carrots to grow has been what's holding me back. Guess I'll go sail around or something in the meantime.
Thanks for the heads up on flax/barley/mushrooms. Didn't know that.
>>1867901exploring is always a good expenditure of time; I recommend doing a bunch of burial chambers, since you never know if you're gonna need a bunch of cores
Building a castle seems to require an astronomical amount of stone
And will the Greydwarf spawner music ever go away? I am building on top of one
>>1868238Absolute madman.
>>1868238Yeah I built one of those with like 6 people helping back in Covid times. I don't think I could manage it solo, but that's me.
>>1868267I was not aware that it's going to be THAT expensive
I thought having like 6 chests full of stone before being able to use it would set me for a good while
>>1868379You should wait until mountain. Mining silver gives fuckton of stone.
Do you guys fit everything under one workbench range or do you place them around your perimeter?
I encircled my starter house around the radius of the workbench and now I don't want to move the workbench or it'll mess up my wall.
Hate having to rebuild just after needing to actually set up storage chests because now I have to move all this shit again.
>>1868238>And will the Greydwarf spawner music ever go away? No, it's there forever. You fucked up when you fucked your building spot.
>>1868644Do you mean for making/upgrading/repairing equipment? Or do you mean for general construction/building work?
If it's the former then here's a pro-tip: make a ehole in the ground, place all the upgrades, then put a floor over the hole. Now you don't need to waste space in order to have a fully upgraded bench/forge/whatever.
If it's the latter, then just build what you need to and destroy the workbench when you're done. You don't need to leave it there.
>>1868238>will the Greydwarf spawner music ever go away? I am building on top of onesee
>>1842537be careful though; set the delete radius too big and you'll accidentally delete parts of ur castle
>>1868379It's even worse if you try to make it more detailed by using smaller pieces. I always alternate my stone blocks so that they're not perfectly stacked, but each layer is instead offset by 1 meter so that the lines between the blocks make a nicer pattern, and trying to do that with the large stone pieces just doesn't work well.
>>1868681man it was almost the perfect spot, look at the minimap
>>1868644Trying to build the whole house around one single workbench sounds extremely painful.
>>1868687I know they work through walls because I have a couple of them outside under a little porch-like area, but a starter 3x4 hut can only fit so much inside. When it came time to place a forge, I knew I fucked up.
>>1868851So where do you put your structural workbenches? Last time I played I had little minimalistic workbenches in boxes along my wall, and it looked fugly because nothing snaps to the wall pieces how I'd like. Same issue with making guard towers for raids, so I just run out into the thick of it and whittle them down while dying.
>>1869185I just spam workbenches all over the area when I build, and once I'm finished I remove the ones that aren't part of my workshop. You don't need a bench inside every building. If your house is constantly getting damaged enough to warrant having a bench for repairs then you need to get better defenses for your base.
For walls I tend to build them thick enough to just hide the workbenches inside of them. Or if I don't have a stonecutter and am still using palisade walls, I add little towers along the wall that can hide the workbenches inside them.
How do you make the hoe actually smooth terrain instead of making steps? Clicking a mildly steep slope (not rock textured yet) just makes a step of flat dirt in the middle of it with rocky edges, literally worse than if I did nothing.
I like making roads to use the cart, but I unironically have more success using a the pickaxe than I do using the hoe.
>>1869456Hold shift and it'll smooth out from where you're aiming instead of trying to level it to where you're standing.
>>1869470So it says, but it still won't remove those steps nor will it even fill minor potholes.
Actually leveling even a flat stretch sucks ass and is a constant cycle of raising the ground to fill minor dents, pickaxing them back down to the actual ground level, and hoping the hoe will finally smooth things out.
Just making the short path from meadows to the black forest was a miserable experience.
>>1869482Yeah terrain manipulation sucks ass since the hoe can only do a tiny bit of elevation on its own. Best way I've found to actually get shit properly flat is to place a floor on the ground, place your character on top of it, and then start flattening normally (without holding shift) so that it'll try to level it to where you're standing. And then just keep placing floors so that you never change your elevation at all.
I'd recommend looking at mods to help make it less frustrating. Can't remember the name of the one I used to have, but it let me change the radius and strength of the hoe, so if I set it to max strength I wouldn't have to click a gorillion times to fully flatten an area.
>>1869456When I was making a slope I had to be very careful about picking where to use the hoe. It's a very, very delicate system of "averaging out" the terrain until it actually smoothes out, and it takes god damn forever.
>>1869470I had no idea this was a thing. I'll have to give it a go next time. Is this something hidden in a tutorial somewhere or the wiki? Are there other tips and tricks we should all know about that aren't obvious?
>>1869558>Is this something hidden in a tutorial somewhere or the wiki?iirc, neither. maybe the wiki? all i know is that it's not common knowledge and not explained anywhere in-game.
>Are there other tips and tricks we should all know about that aren't obvious?uhhh, these are some basic ones, but
>meadowsyou can roll beech logs into birch/oak trees over and over to get finewood early
>black forestyou can (and should) use trolls to break the exposed tops of copper ore deposits, instead of trying to excavate the whole thing by hand with a pickaxe (you can also use trolls to break birch/oak trees). try and do mining and logging during the day, since there are more greydwarves at night, and they're attracted to the sound of logging/mining
>swamponce you find 10 iron, take it back asap so that you can make a longship, which can carry much more iron than your karve. it's probably more efficient to fill all four slots in your karve with iron instead, but i'm impatient. using a cart to transport iron to your boat is also surprisingly not a bad idea, since most of the swamp is flat ground, you can still swim with it attached and it'll float, and it kinda acts like a shield that covers 180 degrees behind you, which helps deal with the throngs of archers
>mountainsa campfire can keep you from freezing to death if you run out of warm drank. wolves are faster than you in a straight line, but have trouble turning, so try and circle them if you're low on stamina. sprint in short bursts while doing so to let your stamina regen
that should cover you for a bit; i'm probably forgetting a few things, but i still hope this helps
