I don't think quantity of godtoons is the issue, I think they just picked (and continue to pick) bad godtoons to port because they're low effort instead of choosing godtoons that the game needs right now for gameplay/variety reasons. When I first played Smite1 in season 2 Xing was the most recent god and the variety in kittoons in the game was amazing even though there weren't that many more godtoons than SHITE2 has right now.

Unironically the first God I though was cool in SMITE 1 was Sylvanus because he had a way to restore HP and MP5.

I think it's pretty clear by now that Smite 2 isn't going the way they hoped, and they're scrambling to try and win people back by getting as many gods back in as they can, as fast as they can, while there's only about 30 or so people left at lorez. I think the problem is optimisation too. Lots of people that played Smite 1 were playing on toaster PCs. I think in general a lot of people that play Mobas don't upgrade their PC their often because Mobas are not really resource intensive.

It's a small playerbase issue like pretty much everything else in the game. Snaddy is a content creator and is one of the best or the best solo laner in the game right now and he does like playing Neith solo and does really good with her in ranked.
Only probelm is since so many top players left even most Deity lobbies are filled with shitters. Snaddy, Fineo, Weak3n, etc are way higher skill than the average Deity player they play against in ranked that they can play basically whatever the fuck they want and still carry.
Imagine you're an Obsidian Loki one trick, you get thrown in a Silver lobby as Support, you can go Loki full damage and 1v5 the enemy team. That's about the skill difference between someone like Snaddy and the average Deity player he plays against.
Then the Plat Solo player playing vs other equally skilled Plats sees the full damage Neith Solo video, decides to play Neith Solo and gets farmed because he doesn't understand that full damage solo is only viable when you're the best player in the lobby

The reason AltBlue always fails is because he's never the best player in any lobby he's in.

The problem isn't just wards being nerfed, it' the map. The map is much bigger in Smite 2 so a lot of neutral farm is in less safe areas. Wards are only really worth it for objectives, revealing camps and maybe the adc lane.

I was gonna post the steamcharts, but they were so bad that I decided to post butts instead.

I've played probably 10 matches of smite in the last five or six years, but haven't played seriously for more like eight or more. I kinda have the bug to play a third-person fighting/combat game and this is the first thing that came to mind. Worth coming back even if it's just for a bit, or should I get Smite 2, or just give up? From reading the thread that final option seems like what will be recommended.

Their matchmaking has always been dogshit. I remember when a public match tracking site became available in like 2013 or 2014 and it calculated an elo even for non-ranking matches and sure enough when I was doing a little too well I'd solo queue and end up against nothing but premades with people 800+ below me on my team.
