And fix your sound!
>https://guildwarslegacy.com/forum/thread/10525-announcing-dsoal-gw1-3d-positional-audio-and-eax-effects-for-everyone/What is DSOAL-GW1?
>When GW was released in 2005, the audio component of Microsoftโs DirectX API was something called DirectSound. DirectSound had a 3D audio component called DirectSound3D, or DS3D, that could pan and amplify/attenuate sound sources based on their position relative to the camera in the gameโs 3D world. PCโs with a high-end Creative sound card also had access to EAX, an extension to DS3D with a suite of hardware DSP effects for occlusion, obstruction, reverb, echo, etc. Like most games of its era, GWโs audio system was designed around DirectSound and DS3D, and owners of high-end PCs could get the โdefinitiveโ audio experience with EAX.>All that ended in 2007 with Windows Vista. Vista completely broke DS3D and EAX. Rather than fix it, Microsoft deprecated DirectSound and pushed developers to adopt its new XAudio2 API for future games. With DS3D and EAX broken, GW hasnโt sounded โrightโ in any version of Windows since XP.
>>1754525 (OP)Gentlemen, it is time for our next prog. I am open to suggestions but I'd like to continue doing our progs but with a twist to keep things interesting for old and new players. Here is my current proposals.
Another 1 profession only prog where we try to beat all of proph with everyone playing a single profession (no repeat elite skills or secondarys) - I'm thinking either Ele, Ranger, or Warrior depending on how challenging we want to make it.
50/50 Prog, premise of this prog is your bar is split in half. If you are a W/Mo, 4 of your slots must be warrior skills, the other 4 must be monk skills. No attribute skills are considered free space.
Lockout prog, after the end of every mission I will roll a random number between 1-8 whichever number I roll is what skill you are now banned from using for the remainder of the prog. This could mean you lose your elite skill, potentially a res skill, or you could lose something vital like comfort animal.
Next, how did we feel about giving tomes away? I personally enjoyed it during our paraprog and I think it really helped promote build experimentation but I think I gave too many away too quickly, one of my biggest problems with proph/NF is how 25% of all elites are locked in the last few areas so you only get to use them for a mission or 2 and campaign is over, there are many super useful skills also locked away till last outpost which is a shame. I'm proposing 2 systems:
1) After every mission I will hand out a single normal tome but only if we achieve the bonus, for any challenge quests (such as Galrath or Rotscale) I will hand out a single elite tome.
2) After challenge quests I will hand out a normal tome to everyone in party.
If people would prefer no tomes be given away and we go by our standard prog rules, or you have an alternative idea I'm happy to hear it.
DISCUSS.

>>1754529Lockout sounds dumb imo, but single prof or 50/50 would be neat if we want to do something more spicy than standard.
As for tomes, I don't think its very necessary in Prophecies, but maybe as a rare, special thing for master level quests like you said (normal tome).
You should set up a schej.it for everyone to put their availability times in (remember to set it to your timezone).
>>1754529>1 professioni want to make a mes or warrior
a party of all mes or warrior also sounds funny but mostly i need The PvE Advantage
>50/50why not both
>lockoutwhy not all three
losing skills on campaign progress feels kinda bad though. though gives me a funny idea for reverse, something like lose skill access depending on dp. if everyone's on 60% dp, that means everyonle only gets access to 40% of their skills (3).
>tomesno opinion
i don't know what standard prog rules are. no buying mats, no player trades, no using storage? was there something else
when is prog time, are we allowed to play on it outside whenever prog time is
>>1755390lose skills depending on dp
lose armor depending on number of deaths
>>1755390no using storage, no buying runes (gotta pick them up), no PvE only skills, and no skills from future campaigns.
Losing skills on death could be interesting.
>>1755387Main idea with lockout is to slowly make you adjust your build and plan ahead for what missions you want to bring your best skills on. One of the main things I dislike is how after a certain point in the prog everyone has now unlocked all the best skills and your build is basically the exact same for the next 10 missions, there's also some attribute lines that there's never a good justification to take because all of the good skills are either in different campaigns, or won't be unlocked till you reach ring of fire island - illusion magic is a good example of this.
>>1754753That's actually the next problem I need to bring up I have recently started a new job which has me working rotating 12 hour shifts this means I am busy every other weekend and every other month I swap from 7AM to 7PM shifts, to 7PM to 7AM shifts. Either we need to plan for 2 days on the prog and rotate between them, or every month we need to change what time we are playing, or just accept I will be missing every other week.
As far as friendly euro times, every single prog I've tried to run friendly euro times (3PM EST) has resulted in no euros showing up or everyone who is showing up would be just as happy to play 4 hours later at 7PM EST.
FILL THIS SCHEDULE OUT AS BEST AS YOU CAN FOR WHEN YOU ARE "TYPICALLY" BUSY.

>>1755452>I swap from 7AM to 7PM shifts, to 7PM to 7AM shiftsjesus christ how horrifying
>>1754529On lockouts: I'd also be wary of people shuffling their bars to game it. You should make people ping their bar, then you roll and tell them the locked out skill. In general I'm not a huge fan of lockout because it's gonna suck major ass if you lose something like fire attunement or FGJ and someone else only loses some meme filler skill. You're going to end up with someone getting bricked bars and hurt feelings.
I say no tomes. They devalue skill quests. Only case where i'd accept it is if lockout was voluntary, and you get a tome in compensation. Make it a gamble where you might lose something critical, but you're gaining something ahead of schedule too. Though this will only be done probably early on, because once someones bar is good enough they won't risk it.
>>1755470It sounds awful but it's not that bad I work 2 on, 2 off, then 3 on, and 3 off. I work about 15~ days a month. The big salary helps as well. Honestly the worst part of it is planning when I can hang out with friends/run guilds. Right now I'm doing the nightshift which has nothing happen 90% of night. So I spent like 10/12 of the hours watching youtube. Unfortunately the computer is monitored and I'm unable to download anything and the work I do is critical so I don't want to risk getting in trouble playing GW on those computers.
Sidenote: https://youtu.be/7kKAdYALL6k?si=5uv3qVTn8rDOb-Gi&t=5679 this was a really good match if you aren't interested in watching the full thing the final 2 minutes at 2:01:30 are awesome.
>>1755488Yeah that would be the point of doing the lockout after the mission people would ping before mission. Even if you don't lose Fire Attunement running a single attribute line won't be possible entire run, proph has 25 missions which guarantees even if you don't lose Fire Attunement, you will eventually lose all of the good fire magic skills such as rodgorts. I think it'll force people to come up with interesting work arounds - normally you'd never use Ether Prodigy but because you've lost fire attunement and ele attunement it's now the next best elite option and if you're running Ether that changes how you think about what skills you're going to bring.

>>1755452I don't like the lockout idea very much, but the 50/50 one sounds really fun since it forces you to think harder about what to bring from your secondary prof and will motivate people to experiment with their builds more.
Also I'm the euro who played with you guys during the Factions and Paragon prog, I remember we first tried for 3PM EST and on a different weekday schedule but we ended up losing half the US players if not more, so I decided to join you for the 7PM EST schedule instead since I was the only EU player anyway.
It worked for a bit but having to wake up(combined with my health problems) at 2 AM to play with you until 4-5 in the morning eventually wore me out and I couldn't complete both progs. Looks like we're getting more EU bros (fun) signing up this time around though, and the majority is available earlier on weekends so maybe I'll be able to play to completion this time around if the schedule is more EU friendly

Additional thing we'll have to consider is how we're going to do this, Saturday 3 PM EST sounds good so far, but I will be busy every other Saturday, so we can either do a rotation of Saturday game then a Thursday game, or we just accept every other Saturday I won't be there and one of you naga's is responsible for organizing the day. Don't forget to fill this out if you haven't already. You don't *need* to fill it out to join our prog. But if 9 people show up for prog the people who signed up on the schedule will be given reserved spots on our main party.
https://schej.it/e/E9EE9
Consensus seems to be leaning toward doing a 50/50 prog so here's the rules of our prog this time:
The usual rules apply:
1) No using storage (you can deposit, mats, but no withdrawing anything).
2) No using rune trader, you can trade amongst prog members if someone gets a good rune
3) No PvE only skills
New rules for 50/50 prog:
4) Your skill bar may only contain up to 4 skills per class. If you are a W/Mo you may have up to 4 warrior skills, the other 4 skills must be Monk. No attribute are considered free space.
5) There will be a series of prog challenges which will reward 1 normal tome to every prog member upon successful completion. These challenges are
-Defeating level 28 dwarven boss before reaching Droknars (see pic)
-Villainy of Galrath
-Rotscale
-Defeating ROX
-Tomb of Primeval
You may alternatively trade in 3 normal tomes for a single elite tome.
How do people feel about this rule set? Specifically the tomes, are the challenges acceptable? Is the elite tome too much? Is there other challenges I should add?
Also how did people feel about adding an additional rule of if you die during the prog you lose 1 skill on your bar for rest of the prog?
>>1760010Also forgot to mention tomorrow is Heros Ascent Zaishen Combat mission and this week is double HA bonus if people are interested tomorrow at like 7-7:30 PM EST we will do some HA runs. It's preferable you come on one of the builds in pic (especially monks!) but if you'd like to run something else that's fine too just check with me so I can see what we are missing from our comp.
>>1760010I'm anti-tome desu, especially if you're allowed to tome in from later campaigns
>Defeating level 28 dwarven boss before reaching Droknars (see pic)>-Villainy of Galrath>-Rotscale>-Defeating ROX>-Tomb of Primevalthis seems like the meta will just be to do 3 (beacon's perch run, galrath, rotscale) to get your one elite for kryta through like the southern shiverpeaks which will kill variety and buildcrafting. also blows if you miss a session and everyone else is AOTLing and 100bing the rest of the game
>adding an additional rule of if you die during the prog you lose 1 skillalso lean against this for the same reasons, especially if it's individual deaths and not like a mission wipe
ironman unlocked 4:4 skillbars will mean you'll always have to run some weird off-balance shit, that's probably enough of a constraint
>Doing the ZB HM on Drakar Lake
>One of the loot drops is a daggers with no req and 3-6 damage, so it's a starting weapon
Dafuq? Is loot dropping way below monster level at random a thing? My guesses are it was a bug or a spirit dropped it, but to my knowledge spirits don't drop loot.
>>1760052What's the skin? Might be valuable.
>>1760040Yeah tomes are something I've always felt sorta mixed about which is why I was in favor of losing skills on death because I do agree with you that people will set up their meta skill bar and never have reason to adjust/experiment again for rest of campaign. But it also sucks to have so many skills that are only available in last 10% of game, or have some attribute lines be near worthless because they are missing a single skill or 2 to be viable. Maybe limiting the tomes to proph only would be a solid idea.
You're probably right about the 4:4 bars being weird enough however. I'll let a few more people weigh in before I decide either way.
>>1760010It's gonna be a no to elite tomes for me dawg.
If we're doing tomes, I'd say leave it at Galrath and Rotscale only

>>1760062Korambits. They are also plain white.
>>1760010what normally occurs during sessions

though i dunno if thats actually feasible. are there actually quests that give any significant gold? i'm so used to swimming in money...
>tomes for challengeswhy not tomes every mission
>elite tomes for challengesseems fine
one on ascension seems cool thematically
>death causes skill loss for rest of progi like the idea of death causing some loss but i dunno about the entirety of the prog. maybe something like, each death causes 1 skill on the bar to be banned for the next mission, and after that next mission you get it back.
i think i am going to take off armor on death for duration of mission. that seems funny. disabling skills on death for duration of mission also seems funny but hard to remember.
>>1760112>what normally occursmeet at x time, play through the story and do skill quests and shit until people have to go. I think we used to do 1 progress day 1 fuck around on sidequests day but it usually doesn't get the same turnout
>outside sessionsthere will probably be a bunch of quests we don't do, and you can farm if you'd like. the constraints end up fun, makes random drops more valuable and social when you share stuff
actually come to think of it, why not a general rolling disable? if the problem is stagnation at the end of every mission everyone gets a roll and whatever number they get that skill gets disabled for the next mission and gets returned to them after that. this wouldn't be a problem even if it hit attunement or aura of restoration, and it would apparently be the opposite of a problem if it hit the elite.
wow theres really not a lot of skills in just prophecies
>>1760192good idea
damn you don't get 4/4 attunements until either sanctum cay (quests) or droks (skill trainers). was gonna say you can just swap elements if that gets whacked
>>1760229i have no idea how playing prog normally feels like but looking at all the skills not available feels bad. how did people play the game before factions? it really must've been only warriors that could run droks. can only imagine a skill tome every mission...
>>1760248we already did an ironman prophecies run without a rule making people use the other 40% of their skills and it was completely fine. the overall skill pool was enough to sustain interesting gvg and ha metas back then and a lot of later skills are broken or poorly designed by comparison (the flail problem)
and yeah you'd get wammo runners with a bunch of survival skills
>>1760248In general it's not that bad but as someone who's run a proph prog 3 times I need to add a few new rules to keep it interesting for both myself and other long time players the progs can sometimes get a bit too predictable otherwise. Some attribute lines in proph are kinda lacking or don't get any good skills which sucks (Smiting Prayers, Illusion Magic) or others lack a single skill that otherwise synergizes really well (Beast Mastery, Hammer etc...).
>>1760112>can we play on our own/with othersYes thats completely fine
For skills I would keep a spreadsheet with what skills were disabled. I thought about going for a "remove 1 piece of armor" on death idea, but I figured it'd be kinda boring since it would be easy to get enough mats/gold to just buy another piece.
People seem to be leaning toward no tomes so I think I'll not do it this prog, the 4:4 bars should be enough of an interesting challenge.
Our current schedule time seems to be leaning toward 3 PM on Sundays
Also reminder for HA at 7:30 PM EST

>At the ripe age of 8 she meets a master Norn smith and learns and masters his lifes work in under a year>Then she manages to find an expert charr sniper and demonlitionist who's skills he's developed over his entire life she masters in a single year>Then she travels to the most racist and intellectually superior species and attends their colleges and finishes what some asura dedicate their life to, in a single year, oh and she gets 3 degrees because she's just that smart.>then she meets expert alchemists and masters their entire trade in under a year>Then she goes CRAZY but not in a way that would mentally impair or otherwise negatively affect her (This is anets favorite bad guy trope to reuse, they do this EVERY season without fail)>and then later she manages to convince EXTREMELY racist and hostile species to somehow work together This isn't even counting the cut storylines with her, or how the community still can't even agree with why she went crazy to begin with because later storybits in LS2 contradict LS1.

male or female monk armor?
>>1760630female monk without armor
We had a discussion last thread about completing Factions missions with only Henchmen and available skills.
I have been using the Factions Henchmen for all my mainland stuff so far and I gotta say, they have been vastly improved.
>>1761607Yeah current factions henchmen are based. They're more than adequate to clear NM missions
can I join the damn prog on ldoa ele spirits answer me dumbass
>>1761678I don't personally have any issue with it, though you may want to gimp your attributes a bit so you aren't nuking level 6 mobs lol.
I have finally finished gearing and setting up my eleway team. Here's what final builds look like.
I managed to stick Blood ritual onto my ST for extra energy management to cover for bad situations, my ST also has a soul reaping staff to help manage energy.
I loved Stolen Speed on this build too much to drop it and this build needed a tiny bit more directed healing so I made my illusion mesmer into a healer. Interestingly I discovered you can do some funky stuff with fast casting monk, Restore life on this build has a 2 second cast time, and with HSR you can potentially have 1 second res's. Which is absolutely busted with Restore life. He is also using a soul reaping wand.
Also we are going to do HA if anyone wants to join
>>1761898do they automatically steal ele attunement?
>>1761988Hero usage of arcane mimicry has some interesting quirks. Hero's will only arcane mimic skills they have attributes in. So as long as no 2 heroes are using similar attribute lines they will ALL steal ele attunement. Heros also steal skill based on whats on the right side of the bar. That's why my fire ele has his elite on the far right side of the bar. Otherwise ele attunement ele steals whatever was arcane mimic'd (in this case his own elite)
>>1761898I'd be interested to know how this does in enchantment removal heavy areas
>>1762068Yeah I plan on trying to beat WoC with it, but enchant removal is also my concern. I'm hoping that magnetic aura + swirling aura will be enough cover enchants I'm half tempted to have my Me/Mo drop sig of rejuv for shield guardian for another AoE cover enchant.
The player is intended to be a PI mesmer, and you should be mainly targetting necro's to prevent any strips from happening so it should be fine as long as you don't fuck up.

2 monks in HA that look the same gonna assume there the same guy but imagine getting wrecked by a bunch of nubs
>>1761898>Restore life on this build has a 2 second cast time, and with HSR you can potentially have 1 second res'sI used this logic with HB N/Mo with the Mhenlo icon res that does an AoE heal. What I discovered was that the best picked touch skills on heroes' bars will often go awry. I might try it again now that we have 'of the Monk' stuff, since half the problem was Olias trying to rez people when HB went down and spending 4 seconds casting instead of 2.
>>1762296Yeah, but in this case it's a Me/Mo so fast casting will always make the skill 2 seconds. It's just a 40% chance with HSR of being 1 second.
HB is cool idea though. Theoretically you could turn this into a near instant cast res lol.

whats the rundown on "farming" - like dervish soling packs of mobs
vs
just gaming and vanquishing as normal
Is it worth trying solo farming in these spots on a dervish or do you just play the game, run some dungeons etc
basically, whats the "make plat" guide
>>1763781highest return/effort is gott farming
https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Nicholas_the_Traveler/Cycle
every week you can farm a set of these (or buy one in kamadan), you get 5 gifts which easily sell for 4e each, so about 75 plat in an hour, or 50ish in 10 minutes
other easy return on effort solo farms I've done are toc farm during free fow entry week like right now (https://gwpvx.fandom.com/wiki/Build:R/A_Whirling_Defense_Farmer), derv vos feather farming when the price of feathers is high, vaettir farming for gold unidentified items and festival drops, raptor farming on a derv or warrior during the anniversary

IF YOU PLAN TO SPEND MORE THAN AN HOUR IN PRE SEARING, YOU MAY WANT TO LOGIN EARLY.
>>1765857Fine, it's not like I wanted to play pre-searing with other people anyway... :(
>>1765863The first hour will be in pre searing, but I just want to make sure we all leave at the same time, so anyone wanting to spend more than an hour in pre searing needs to login early. 2nd hour will be skill quests and great northern wall.
prog time will be 3 PM EST to 5 PM EST.
What class would be best for deathless irongwamm? I feel like ranger because of a mix of being durable, being able to sit in the backline like a coward, and decent build variety. Paragon would obviously be good if you can tolerate running imbagon/HR the entire time.
>>1765865Monk is technically best
Dervish is theoretically best
Mesmer is actual best.
Paragon is best at supporting hero parties however. Not so great at surviving.
>>1765865Paragon.
Even more stupidly durable and sits at the back as well.
>>1765866What makes you say monk is 'technically' the best? It seems like one of the worst choices, since you've got caster armor, enemy AI hates healers, and hero AI is retarded if you're not playing a damage dealer.
>Mesmer is actual bestMesmer seems like a good choice, since you can direct shutdown and do a bunch of damage.
>>1765877You don't have to worry about hero AI fucking up and not healing you/prioritizing healing someone else over you or using the wrong spell on you. You also have easy access to a lot of really powerful healing spells such as spirit bond or even protective bond/spirit which you can prioritize yourself quite easily and pre-protting yourself to make it very difficult to kill you.
That's why it's only technically the best. As long as you are confident in your own ability there's absolutely no reason you should die as a monk against PvE enemies.
Dervish is theoretically the best because it has the highest armor in the game and a shit ton of defensive skills/spells that should theoretically make you impossible to kill.
Mesmer is actual best because as you mentioned the shutdown is just crazy, as long as you're aware of who the threat is in any engagement you can easily shut it down. But beyond that those inspiration stances are absolutely insane if you plan ahead and can make you quite difficult to kill. I normally don't bring them but if you're trying to do a deathless irongwamm I'd seriously consider it just for added protection.
>>1764710Though about it, how about after our prog on Sunday we'll do a HA run for people interested. It'll be at around 5 PM EST
btw you can always plan HA stuff here as well you don't need me to set it up :P even if you only have 1 person show up, 2 people easily crush all bot/single man teams, maybe even claim halls if nobody is in there.
How much of a difference does the anniversary monk hammer make for build variety? Ended up with two monks a while back, a Canthan monk with the hammer and one in pre-searing

One that is usually in the main story path that offers the skills from the quests in case you missed them, and then another type of trainer that is off the beaten path and offers ~2 skills per prof that aren't from quests.
Also armor upgrades exist at pretty much each major town. There's 3 tiers between what you can get at ascalon and droks

>>1772411Yeah. The natural state of the game is that everything you do is kindof a steady grind forwards, even just getting from one place to another. The way it works itself out for me is that I play with GW1 in my rotation for about a month on and a month off. When I play I usually choose a stopping point like finishing a campaign or acquiring something specific from zaishen/balthazar rewards to take the next break. It makes it so that the pace of progression and the inherent grind doesn't dull the game so quickly, and when i get back to it I know where to pick up.
>>1772411>>1772487yeah (pve) gw doesn't lend itself well to clock-in interminable grind. play a campaign, do some experimentation, accomplish something, finish something, come back later
>>1772657what were the builds?
>>1772657ranger ai is nowhere near as much of an issue as melee
you need ims, shadowsteps, whatever and it still doesn't really fix the problem of them swapping targets and spending all their time running around
>>1772657Ranger heroes are perfectly fine, just need to flag them to have line of sight if there are obstructions
>>1772657Necro isn't a "support" profession. They are really good at it though. Aside from minion mastering, you can also run damage no problem
>>1772809This, my ranger hero is only a few % dmg done behind my dom mesmer hero
>>1772836which build do you use on the ranger?
>>1772908just something simple and quick I threw together

>>1772411I've found the best way to deal with burnout is to change what you're doing (eg: maybe try some PvP if you've been doing PvE all this time) if you're interested in still playing, but true burnout there's no harm in taking a break. Come back in October, that's always a fun holiday to play during. I expect this proph prog will probably take us about 3~ months to get through so we'll probably do a factions prog on a different ruleset later this year, keep your eye out for that sometimes weird progs can make for interesting new gameplay.
>>1772657When you said "spirits pulls his necro out from time to time" I instantly knew what build you linked. And while that build is indeed pretty crazy - I actually think rit support is way better and more pleasant to play I've included 3 builds in this screenshot.
The top build I use on my hero for a paragon heavy party Dark Fury and Mark of Fury are godly adrenaline heavy teams. Elite can be whatever you want, I run disenchantment because my paragon heroes don't have many strips. If you are running mainly rangers/derv or assassins you might want to go heavier in curses, drop order of pain + dark fury for MoP + barbs and go for Order of Vamp
The middle build is intended for party comps with 4 or more physicals (or in petway teams) I'd personally recommend getting a fast casting staff or wand just to make order of vamp less miserable to cast. If you play this build well you can get away with having a monk play prot instead of heal.
But the best build to run out of these 3 if you are a player would be the rit build. This build works best with 2-3 melees to support with spirit Siphon you can easily maintain 3 GDW and SoH while doing very respectable damage.
so tl;dr
top build for warrior/paragon heavy partys
middle build for 4+ physicals
bottom build for 2-3 physicals.
>>1772665 I assume cups linked the middle build. I don't know what the Necro MM build would of been.
>>1772657>>1772809Like others have said it's actually not that bad, you'll have to flag occasionally (especially in Kaineng) but ranger/para heros are generally not too bad about obstructions, put them on Fight and you can guide them into targeting stuff not obstructed easier.
>>1772944Are you playing TaO or running EBSoH or a curse necro/splinter weapon rit on that team? Or running Favorable Winds/Winnowing on another hero? I play bow spam ranger and usually I have to play pretty efficiently to keep up with my dom heroes, I can't imagine a hero ranger would be doing as well esp since toolbox doesn't track bleed damage and you're running throw dirt+antidote sig. Seriously, drop throw dirt the heroes will run straight into the enemy and die to use it. I recommend putting Savage Shot on the bar, but if you're afraid they'll be competing with dom mes for rupts, Body Shot or Keen Arrow are also really good.
Absolute Based choice running Expert Dexterity though. Love that skill, sadly never have reason to run it.
>>1772950funny enough i didn't have any of those builds just random shit i have saved over the years and posted them all so he could get some ideas and i really don't know necro well its why i told him to ask you guys
>>1772958>the heroes will run straight into the enemy and die to use ithe has it disabled to micro it

>prog rules do ban using rune trader
damn...
>>1773381who knows, you'd have to find a collector. some guy in the kamadan trade archive wanted 4a for a q10 a couple months ago
>>1773384>prog rules don't ban trading with other playersthey don't? I know we can trade with party members but I don't think you could pay a derv tips to run you to droks for example
>>1773388>The usual rules apply:>1) No using storage (you can deposit, mats, but no withdrawing anything).>2) No using rune trader, you can trade amongst prog members if someone gets a good rune>3) No PvE only skillscould buy a lot of things with a gift or ten. the real problem after that is not being in kamadan. with enough time there's runners that appear in LA.
>>1773427The point of prog is to play like you're on a new character, not to try to game the loose rules so that you can play like you normally do.
>>1773427if the usual rules apply, the other campaigns were ironman-y too
like there's not a rule saying you have to find a fair deal at market value, a lot of people are rich and nice and would give you an elite tome for free or cheap, but I don't think it's fair for someone to be using esurge or ineptitude already
>>1773428>>1773434desu i have never played guild wars "correctly", i think i have only one character that's done all the missions of a campaign and it's only one campaign and that was only last year with ZMs. every other character has been run in some capacity. i have no idea how i had the money to buy runs but that's what i did. "new character" for me means "buy runs". new character and not buy stuff is a strange new world. the "fresh"/"ironman" exists only as a theoretical.
i was hoping to buy runes or interesting weapons. though i dunno if that changes anything even if i got it. i guess sup runes are way too cheap these days. 100 for a sup rune compared to 500 for rune of holding. on the other hand having 3 sup runes on a lvl 12 character sounds very funny...
>>1773449>i have never played guild wars "correctly"I don't get it, if you can have the experience of buying runs and maxing out whenever you want, why would you not take one of the only opportunities to play with limitations in a group that will give you those runes and weapons randomly as they're found, so you get naturally nudged towards some variety
it's not like gear in gw is mandatory to make things work in gw, it just gives you a little more damage or efficiency
>>1773449Resist the urge and play it the old school way with us. Prophecies is fun specifically because it drip feeds you skills and you're changing up your build every mission.
Playing with drops means you are excited every time you see a blue an a purple drop. It might be a +17% ench melee weapon that the casters fight over or a poison mod for your bow that makes you lean into condi ranger rather than interrupts.
>>1773454i don't see the same risks as you guys do; my point isn't to make things normal or powerful, it's less about results and more thinking around what systems mean and thus coming to understand the system. e.g. interest in runes and weapons is a result of noticing nick cycle may be inside prog time, 3 sup runes on a sub-20 char sounds funny as a result from runes being available. i have no idea if it's any good, maybe that just means everything dies in one spell. but it sounds similar enough to single profession or 50/50 mandates.
with this i found it's possible to get a small equipment pack in pre in ~30 minutes. 30 minutes to make equivalent of 2.5k is pretty good. is it too good? i dunno. now that i know it it may not be so interesting to do if there's a next time though.
>>1773471yeah I get that, but it's a letter/spirit of the law thing
I don't think there are too many more of those 50 flowers=pack things left, probably the most egregious would be farming collector items for a 40/40 set and using it the rest of the game and spending a couple hours solo farming high-mat trader items and selling them, then buying keys and spamming chests
the reason the gott thing is strange is that nick items aren't inherently valuable, you aren't getting them to open for the 0.3% odds of getting a weapon you want. it's just about p2p trading and the value a third party ascribes to it, so it seems like it ought to implicitly be banned by the system if you reason it out from first principles
I just don't like the idea of trading in prog with people outside of prog. Just don't feel right.
>>1773471>3 sup runes on a sub-20 charThat's literally going to leave you with 1 health until you're, like, level 10.
>>1773478>>1773479I would think getting the GotTs and using them would be fine, but not trading them for stuff outside the prog.
>>1773481Yeah I have zero issue with grinding for gotts and using what they open into. I do have an issue with selling the gotts for 25e and then selling the ecto for 100k and buying a run to droks and getting a full gearset
>>1773478>spoiler 1i feel that happens without farming though. areas seem to drop enough to go to all the collectors simply by doing quests and killing everything in the way.
>spoiler 2i don't like chests. but maybe i should look into them, i've never thought about it.
>spirtsi don't really buy gotts being worthless. the reason why they are expensive and why most runes are cheap is due to bots; you could say "the game was not intended to be botted and thus the market shouldnt have those prices" but then this implies me farming to sell to merchant to buy key to open chest should be good, but you just said they're not good.
>>1773481doesn't that sound funny? imagine a rule saying to have 1 sup rune at 10, 2 at 15, and 3 at 20.
>>1773494>feel that happens without farming thoughI didn't mean that you'd have to go out of your way to do it, rather that it's a seam to dodge engaging with some game mechanics. the same way green weapons were a little controversial back in the day for making it too easy to get perfect gear
>this implies me farming to sell to merchant to buy key to open chest should be good, but you just said they're not good.not "not good," just more optimized, like getting packs via flowers. I don't have a problem with it, especially with the currently depressed prices for the usual conset mats. if you figured out a low level 50/50 build to farm merchant drops I would think it was cool, certainly nothing like getting gott ecto
>>1773500>Unique items were first introduced in the September 7th, 2005 update>(Guild Wars Factions is the second stand-alone campaign of Guild Wars, released on April 28, 2006)

>>1773257yeah I see it's disabled but I don't even know what situation it'd be even worth microing lol just wasting a skill slot.
>>1773384>>1773388Trading amongst prog players is fine, trading with other players is not fine otherwise you can skirt too many prog rules. But as long as you don't show up one day with chaos gloves, BDS staff, and obsidian armor etc... and you're following the general spirit of the ironman prog it doesn't bother me. Likewise you can use anything you get out of the GotT you farm (so if you get moss spider egg, bo staff, icy dragon sword, honeycomb, you are allowed to keep and use them). But I'm not encouraging con use because the fun is the struggle. Nobody is going to remember how we beat rotscale first try, but people will remember the rotscale where it came down to the final 2 people in our party soloing rotscale for 5 minutes.

>"just read my mind already bro, i was there when the game launched, so you should know this too"which i'm not going to pretend to do, so i just ask the final use case. my primary interest is in finding ways to make things interesting within a ruleset.
that reminds me, i forgot the rolling or on-death skill disable thing. were we gonna do that? i suppose it doesn't really matter yet since everything dies so easily atm but later it might be interesting.
what did folks do when prophecies was the only released campaign?
also does anyone have footage of GW1 on release or know where I can find some? I'd like to see the game and its community back in the early days
>>1785682going to GTOB and by proxy embark beach is campaign travel which is banned since you can also use that to get stuff like cons etc... but it's not enforced. If people want to grab ZC or ZM's I'm totally ok with it. But using zcoins to bypass rules is not ok.
There is technically a grey zone in which if you somehow got enough zcoins to buy bag expander or a larger equipment pack that would be ok with me. But in general anything that affects the prog is usually banned. Getting mistrust at level 10, or getting enough zcoins to unlock an elite like Vision of Regret would affect the prog.
In general I try to avoid making "mandatory" off hour play because it messes up the "progression" if we have 3 people who've been playing in their off time and are already max armor with full attributes and elites meanwhile group is still in ascalon it kinda fucks with the progression of the other 5 people in group. The same would apply to getting tomes and whatnot because it messes with the difficulty if one person is capable of carrying the rest of the prog because they unlocked OP NF skills in their free time anyone who doesn't do the same would thus be dead weight or barely contributing. It's not very fun when you realize you are dead weight or not contributing to group's success.
In general the only time tomes are ok is if it's been pre approved before the prog. We talked about this in thread I believe and discussed if we wanted to hand out tomes either as part of a lockout rule set, or as group rewards for beating difficult prog goals (such as beating Rotscale) but popular opinion was no tomes. If we do a factions prog after this I might push for a more tome friendly ruleset to keep things interesting.
>>1785900regarding on death we decided not to do that. Maybe in a future prog though, I think it'd be interesting.

Again I have no idea what I'm doing, I've only really played this game casually a few times since I owned it, and it's only in the last year I gave it an honest effort to finish the campaigns. but yeah we weren't joking about being able to beat nm campaigns with henchmen and bare minimum competence
>>1794416>using web of disruptionholy based, I kneel anon.
Despite what others are saying this is honestly not that bad of a set up. You should consider swapping your monk res skills to something else though (or disable them during fights) it can be dangerous to have your only healers stop healing to do an easy to disrupt 5 second cast which only revives someone at 25% HP (easy to kill again).
Popular strat is to have your warriors run a res skill instead since they are unlikely to die however both yours are /a so if you want to keep death charge I would personally drop Flare on your ele for Flesh of my Flesh (one of the best res skills in the game). You have plenty of low cool down skills on your ele bar that Flare isn't really worth it and you aren't running attunements or overcast so you don't really want to run Flare to begin with.
If you want some more advise on how to improve this current set up let us know in thread, but honestly with a few tweaks you should be able to easily clear EotN this is not a bad first time set up for someone who's new.
>>1795890>flarestorm>heal party>resurrectIts not that bad but some of them might not even be better than the henchies.

What hero team build would be optimal for normal mode? I wanna speedrun the protector titles
Mesmers key benefit of ignoring armor is kinda redundant, same with spirits everything dies to quick to set them up in time, fallback is also way more important to have multiple copies of
>>1796432Mesmers are still good damage+shutdown, even if ignoring armor isn't as important. Mistrust is big, cry of frustration is big. The standard bar for them is still really good spike, shutdown and energy management, while fitting in a res or ench removal while also not relying on enchantments themselves. No ele stack is gonna prices the same benefits, but that's not so say they're worthless.
ST really is just the best prot there is for most stuff. You won't need to precast or anything but it's still extremely good for c+spacing. There's maybe a way to run an E/Mo though as long as you're aware of ench removal.
The main things would be considering to swap out the sos with probably an air ele of some kind. The main purpose of the sos is splinter weapon+resto stuff of melee. You might not need the 2nd healer for NM. If you use +5 SR weapons on the mesmers, and still keep their inspo skills, you probably can get away with dropping the SoS. Less great if you're a melee since splinter is the real MVP of that bar, but it likely doesn't beat an air ele.
Double fall back is definitely important though yeah. Merc mesmerway already runs that, but if you're not running mercs you definitely should fit it in. The incoming+fall back on a single hero is a good substitute though.
That's all for tweaking mesmerway, but there's also a TON of melee or physical shenanigans you can get away with in NM. Orders, paragon stacking like Racway, shit like that can be great cause the enemies don't shit on melee as much.

Is it worth starting a new dervish just for farming? Every gott or boss green farming guide features a dervish

Dervish is a natural farmer with their high energy regen and high armor rating.

you can take a vos derv with booze just about anywhere in the game, unless they got aoe ench rips. if you want a versatile universal minimal-adjustment solo farmer, it's derv and maybe rit

Starting Factions, what should I expect, look forward to, fear? I've chosen a ritualist.
>>1812051there's a pretty big difficulty spike after you get off the island and suddenly the enemies fuck you hard. take your time before leaving and get max armor asap once you do. there are collectors around kaineng if you're doing an ironman type run
unlike prophecies there are basically no skill quests after shing jea and every skill in the game is immediately available. you'll have to drive your own build experimentation, I recommend checking for rit bosses before you go through an area to cap their elites. also once you pick your secondary, talk to ng in shing jea for a bunch of free skills
lots of missions with allies that like to die and wipe your progress. watch the party window if their health drops, maybe bring some resto skills to save them if it becomes a problem
hf, factions is fun as fuck

>>1812090That difficulty spike sounds scary. I was struggling with the final mission of Prophecies a lot until I discovered the command that makes your henchies target an enemy above other ones. Protecting allies sounds like cancer but I guess I'll try my best.
>>1812142>>1812189Yeah sorry guys, I will definitely be using spirits. That's part of what attracted me to the class in the first place; not even sure what a non-spirit build would look like. A bunch of healing and weapon buffs? Doesn't interest me much.
>>1812259Yeah, sorry. It's my first time through Factions so I wanted to choose a campaign-specific profession, and I'm going Dervish in Nightfall so playing an Assassin felt pointless (plus people here said Factions was full of anti-melee technology to the point of frustration)
>>1812416you can play channeling magic for a dps spellcaster

Since starting my first Rit character a little while ago I have a lot of fun being a spirit spammer
>>1812416The only thing to be aware of as a rit is that your party can only have one of each spirit. Meaning if you use shelter, and then a rit henchman also uses shelter, yours will die as theirs spawns. Chiyo has signet of spirits so don't take her if you wanted to use that elite. Gai has shelter and union, and aeson has pain, disenchantment, shadowsong, and union. Chiyo and Gai are both solid and you probably should be taking at least one, but be aware of that interaction and drop the one that has overlap or tweak your build
>>1812416they're bullshittin, and poisoned from meta spirit spamming, rit is fun
the difficulty spike is just that the whole campaign is designed for you to be max level, because they were afraid people wouldn't buy factions if they couldn't reuse their prophecies characters. quests and progress give out way more xp compared to proph so you'll cap out pretty quickly. just get armor asap
I might play with a friend, he never played before.

>>1814018Pretty alive for its age, all things considered. I can regularly find people to do dailies with at reset, trade is pretty active, and pvp can occasionally happen but usually only on organized days. A lot of other 20 year old games have fared worse.

Resto allows you to play traditional healer "monk" but with more options and a little less raw healing output.
The only thing it can't do is hex removal.

How is Dervish in a general sense? Just looking what profession I want to play to replay the campaigns, maybe do some farming, etc
>>1833246Probably the best profession in a general sense. Strong at party stuff, can solo farm a lot of the game, has a great running build, used in speed clears. Meta builds use either Pious Renewal and Vow of Strength but the 5 avatar skills are really neat and ones like Avatar of Lyssa can be a good mixup from the main two meta elites.
>>1833246balth grenth and lyssa are all great along with pious and both vows class can do it all
I suggested trying guild wars 1 to a friend who never played it, and he surprisingly accepted
What do you think is the best campaign for a complete newcomer? The wiki suggests prophecy, but I'm afraid it could be too slow
>>1833717You can just skip side quests if it's too slow. Proph is actually really well designed and paced with a nice difficulty ramp-up if you play it properly (limited to skills you can actually earn at each stage, limited to looted gear, no heroes or high level friends, etc) and it has the most iconic setting and story. Just play with him as the monk (unless he wants to heal ofc), let him pick where to go and what to do, and don't metagame or backseat and it's a blast regardless of campaign.
>>1832844Like other anon said we are at Divinity coast we did a bunch of skill questing today and got beetlerun + hotspring outpost. Next week if we have 7 people show up we will get ToA and do rotscale, if we only have 6 people we will go try and get 1 elite from Snake Dance
>>1833717>>1833725are you also new to gw or experienced?
if you can hustle him through when he gets bored, I'd do prophecies. factions becomes a deathball that's hard to read pretty quickly, nf can be better if you manage all the heroes, but it's a fine line between taking competent builds and making your friend's contribution to team success hard to notice
prophecies keeps you in 4-6 man parties about 2/3 of the game, if not more, and very obviously introduces things you need to worry about. this is the section where you really ought to interrupt something, this is the section where conditions are a problem, etc
>>1834230Thanks, I didn't think about the advantages of a smaller team!
> are you also new to gw or experienced?I am experienced (finished factions with all professions, nightfall with most, and prophecy with some)
> but it's a fine line between taking competent builds and making your friend's contribution to team success hard to noticeMy plan is to play a monk as the other anon suggested, and not use heroes, so my friend is remains important

>>1837683Holy shit that is an absurd bar
I feel like Penetrating blow would be a better pick compared to disember if we ever run this in FA or maybe even in AB, likewise if this is FA could probably drop res sig for something like sig of clumsiness for a free KD.
Actually mentioning AB has got me thinking so I ended up theory crafting a team you could probably have 1 war run disember, and other run axe rake if you wanted. It's a pretty simple set up, necro spams cracked armor, and uses defile defenses + barbs to set up for huge spikes, defile alone will do 126 damage, you could probably even justify sticking Rigor Mortis on this bar to prevent blocking, though it might need another enchant rip. And necro slurps up conditions on melee constantly.
Ritualist is a pretty standard channeling support can use ancestor rage for free spike DPS, resilient weapon combos well with the necro and nightmare weapon is basically free healing for the warriors. All of these builds are fairly energy efficient as well.
Definitely want to try this next double AB week.
>>1837841for sure drop res sig you got so many idea to play with fuck in ab or fa i would suggest something as simple as iway for the constant hp regen that spear build with iway is godlike
>>1837896Yeah I had thought about that but the problem is res signet counts as a signet for symbolic strike, so dropping it means you lose 12 damage (+3~ from flux) on your main spike skill. That honestly might still be worth it for FA just for the sustain it gives.
Healing signet would be a kinda nice out of combat heal as well.
>>1837919now that i think about it sig of clumsiness would be hilarious on a war

Now that most of the bots have been wiped out/banned and the method of bots farming random arena has been nerfed in addition to the way the community plays random arenas (instant leave rather than trying to win streaks) this means the supply of these strongboxes will continue to dwindle and become more valuable. Now where it gets interesting...
>RitualistCan be played as a pure healer/protter or damage dealer, but what I'd argue they're best at is support in a variety of ways.
Ritualists can create stationery spirits for a variety of purposes, such as attacking, healing, potecting, buffing, debuffing, etc. They're very good at planting in one spot and doing it all at once, e.g., they can plant the Disenchantment spirit to rip enchantments off enemies, buff your melee with a weapon spell that makes his weapon heal him with each attack, drop a cheap attack spirit like Pain in the way of enemies to control their movements, etc.
>ParagonYou can play paragon as a ranged melee spearchucker, but again, what they excel at it party support, especially with other paragons and melees in general. They're very good at "pressure" buffing/debuffing. They don't get used as much outside specific builds or one off skills but gather enough paragons and they can do crazy things.

Premise is pretty simple, abuse flux to get +30% damage on attacks, use chilling wind which makes water hexes last 2X longer + deep freeze which is a 10 second long -66% mass AoE = 20 seconds of -66% movement. You then spam lightning orb for 150-200 damage. You can either go with the top build which has vapor blade for another spammable 150 damage attack. Or you can go bottom build which has shell shock + teinai crystal which combo really well together for a bonus powerful cover hex and cracked armor. Bottom's a lil more complicated to play but probably more balanced. Top build just flows better.

>>1843663It's interesting because there's several rpgs and pseudo-MMOs I've played that have more complex mechanics, deeper character building, more customization, etc, but GW1 is the only one I keep coming back to every time. It's just a good, charming game.
>>1843874>more complex mechanicswhich? don't think I've ever seen something similar, between the variety of a constrained skillbar and the enemies using your skills thing
I feel like a lot of games have complexity with patterns to learn and inputs to manage, but you never have the depth or creativity outside maybe pvp
>>1843939I guess the reason no one else attempted this is because it's a balance nightmare, but it's worth it
>>1843939Well, the way GW1 works is unique like with interrupt & overcast, and well thought out, but each piece is pretty simple. I guess I mean complexity in terms of how many influences there are, inputs as you say. Like with a melee attack, if it's in range, it hits, simple as, and we move on to damage calculation. If you are using a dodge or block skill or there is a condition like blindness, there's % chance it misses; there's no comparing DEX scores to determine hit chance, accuracy vs evasion, stuff like that. Magic spells tend to be even more direct. Which is all fine, more doesn't mean better.
It's not a good comparison but stuff like the combat mechanics of Eve Online are significantly more complex, and it's very satisfying when you get it right and build up enough experience that it starts being intuitive even when so much of it is variable. In Path of Exile, skill interaction is bonkers but kinda broken. Most RPGs have the 5+ stats plus equipment attribute bonuses that make them a constant adjustment of finding the "just right" set. But GW1 already gets it just right in that it's actually very straightforward, so you don't need to be a level 999 math wizard to keep track of it or understand how stuff works. The skills and effects are individually simple, but they can openly interact with each other, and that means the devs can give you lots of skills to choose from and it isn't a nightmare of balance and unintended interactions - But you're limited to 8, there's only so much you can do with attributes, so you do need to have a plan. But you're not locked into your attribute choices either, you can change them as much as you want. GW1 has an interesting mix of limitations and freedoms, and the limitations provide positive challenge instead of being annoying restrictions.
tl;dr GW1 is like a big box of lego pieces while some other RPGs are like a balsa model kit. I never feel like I need to re-learn everything each time I come back to it.

it's like when the rune traders run out and you can sell blessed insigs for 1-2 ecto each
I just finished A Time for Heroes for the first time, I thought I was doing something wrong and about to get bamboozled when The Great Destroyer died in about 5 seconds. Weird how this was made after Factions and Nightfall, which had decently challenging boss fights with Shiro and Varesh.
>>1846482abaddon or varesh?
I think the great destroyer was supposed to summon more mobs around him, but they didn't fix it
>>1846488Eh, imo Abaddon is barely a fight, more like a competency check even if you're a nooblet like me. As long as you don't simply unga bunga spacebar 1 2 3 4 5 and sit in the middle it's pretty easy to weather. The odd thing about the Destroyer is that it took so little doing to kill, I was expecting more of a steady grind like so many other bosses but it folded before I could finish my normal chain of skills.
Upon reading the wiki about it, it looks like Pain Inverter is a cheat code for instantly deleting this boss, and I do use that skill.
>>1846507yeah EotN and nightfall both introduced a ton of powercreep in this game but EotN especially. PI instantly evaporates most bosses.
Mallyx is probably hardest boss in the game imo, followed by dhuum and kanaxi. Duncan the black is kinda nasty too if you don't cheese him.
I kinda wish anet had more time with this I feel like after EotN they really started to figure out how to make challenging content and it would of been cool to see more challenging boss fights.

>>1846482Did you cast pain inverter on it and forget to disable your heroes' interrupts?
>>1849683Considering I went into the encounter blind and therefore did not do anything to prepare my heroes, yes. I kept it on bar bar as soon as I got it because it combos like hell with Empathy.
>>1849767When he gets interrupted, he does an attack that hits everything in a massive AoE for a bunch of damage. So he will take the max damage that pain inverter can cause, multiplied by your party size (8) plus any spirits, minions, pets, etc. It will kill him almost instantly.
>>1850162So if he's under Pain Inverter he gets lmao'd by his own party wipe button? lol, seems like a huge oversight by the devs. I'm going to go back and see what he fight is like without it.
>>1851140>seems like a huge oversight by the devsa bunch of the pve skills are retardedly broken, maybe intentionally maybe out of laziness
>>1851140All of EotN was designed in a half-assed fashion with assets they started making for a real campaign before deciding they wanted to make GW2 instead and used what they had already to introduce a GW2 tie-in.
The PvE skills are all hilariously busted and you'll see the same dungeon levels copy-pasted four times.
>>1851140it's a bit funny since EotN also has a dungeon boss (Duncan) that perfectly counters Pain Inverter by having his own passive Pain Inverter monster skill. So they definitely know it was gonna be a problem but just didn't do anything for the final boss of the expansion for some reason

>>1846553Yea I heavily dislike the direction after factions
Adding heroes was great, but the new pve skills and grinding for ranks are retarded
If I hang on to completed zaishen missions do I get the double rewards when I turn them in during the bonus next week?
>>1852011I like pretty much everything about the Factions campaign, and I liked the locations and content from NF but it seemed really off-putting when very early on starting a NF character your main quest is literally just grind to level 5 and then again to level 10. There's just barely enough quests from NPCs during those to not need to simply grind as long as you grab the bounties each time you leave an outpost. EotN really does play like a grab bag of pieces of unfinished campaigns, but I don't hate it. I just wish we got more.
Honestly it doesn't bother me too much that things are broken in the pve parts of games, GW1 still has plenty of challenging stuff in it.
>>1852011Another thing is profession design:
Before nightfall, monk was the only profession with a primary attribute discouraging secondary profession (only useful with monk skills)
But both nightfall professions have this flaw
>>1853218>nightfall professions have this flawur not running a charge/watch yourselves/shields up para build?
>>1853239Damn you're right, I forgot about that
