It's cave story, deathmatch. Someone made it possible to play it in COOP multiplayer, and I made a basic mod for deathmatch. Somewhat similar to old arena shooters, so it's a little more dynamic and similar to how you get upgrades and weapon levels in singleplayer.

What's the lore reason for why they stopped learning the power of friendship and started killing each other?

Minor bugfix update.

> What's the lore reason...
idgaf, it's deathmatch. Though I'm sticking to how vanilla works mechanically, with arsenal and HP upgrades. Maps would also be heavily based on the vanilla ones like Mimiga Village. Closest thing is that it's back during the war, various factions and people fighting over the island and blast mining and explosives making areas more open and less linear then they usually are.

The stage files where made in booster's lab, so you could plop it into the data folder of the normal freeware version and port or mod it. Only real incompatibility would be multiplayer specific TSC tags (<TARxxxx).

It's really a quick and dirty job, more of a "What If?" experiment then serious project. I might come out with more updates, or I might already be satisfied.

>closedsourceslop instead of NetX
NetX is actually old and buggy, while Clay's MP works enough. Though netcode still isn't that good for PvP, and it probably won't get better.

If someone has a fork that's more complete I'd love to use that instead, though I'm unfamiliar with C/C++ so no engine overhauls or netcode improvements.
