is PVE still terrible in this game, i put a lot of hours into it but eventually lost interest in it. I'd happily come back if the pve was rebalanced so that you actually felt more powerful as you level instead of everything just being scaled to your lvl making the game feel like it lacks progression.

He's doing a shit job of explaining the problem. Nerfs did happen to accommodate subclassing but they weren't that crippling, anyone that could complete content can still do it and overland is still a joke.

The issue is that the banner/beam combo was already so powerful it was pushing everything else out of the meta and subclassing allows you to minmax that combo even further. "Everyone got nerfed" in the sense that all non-subclassed and most subclass builds can't come close to the 160k abominations. This doesn't mean other builds aren't viable for 99% of content, but it does mean they *feel* like goofy roleplay builds in comparison. In all likelihood ZOS will nerf the combo (they already tried by making it harder to sustain), they're just trying to figure out how to do it without ruining Arcanists since the beam is so central to their kit.

But that guy is being silly acting like everyone is doing shit damage now. With arcs and HA builds the skill floor is WAY higher.

Well, if you wanted to stick with a DK there's bad and worse news. They're still DoT reliant plus the recent subclassing update (we can mix and match classes now) makes staying a pure DK feel even worse than it was.

But if you're willing to branch out, beam builds are extremely viable (too much actually, every fight looks like a fucking rave now) and you can just bolt the skill line onto your main if you don't feel like rerolling.

Finished the main story up through coldharbour, as well as all the shit in all of the faction zones I went through. Now Cadwell wants me to do the same thing for Aldmeri Dominion and presumably Ebonheart Pact after, are those stories as solid as Daggerfall Covenant? Are the rewards worth it? I'm into the story but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited about some of the post-launch areas like Morrowind.

This. DF story is the most coherent, involved, and puts you as the hero of the story. But the DF zones are generic.
AD story is a little less interesting, and is much more about politics and solving internal problems. Though Reaper's March is unfiltered kino, and feels like a totally separate adventure. The zones are much, much cooler, with one serious stinker (Malabal Tor).
EP story is a complete shit show that starts off really strong and falls off a cliff. The zones are all decent, but the DLC zones in the same regions are 10x better.

Make sure you're visiting a Stablemaster everyday to upgrade your mount. You can also upgrade bag/bank space from Bag vendors/Banks.

Skill lines you might want to consider:
Scrying from Western Skyrim, Solitude. Let's you excavate items. Mostly junk that's 100g - 1000g, with some 5k gold ones in there. More importantly necessary for Mythic Items, which are extremely strong.
Thieves Guild Skill Line from Hew's Bane, Abah's Landing. Basically just lets you steal shit better, which can be relatively profitable if you know what you're doing.
Dark Brotherhood Skill Line, from Gold Coast, Anvil. Also mostly useful for stealing, gives you Blade of Woe which can kill NPCs from stealth. Sometimes useful for certain stealthy quests.

Other shit you might want to consider:
Pick up the in-game card game, Tales of Tribute from High Isle, Gonfalon Bay. You can do it daily for some basic rewards or try to do the Competitive shit against players for some good rewards.
Look at DLC zone Dailies. Many of them can eventually net you Mounts, Titles, Gold, etc. Better to get started sooner than later.
Daily Crafting Writs. Sort of annoying to get started, but net you 5k gold + a bunch of crafting mats that can sometimes be worth 20k+. Easy af to do once you understand it.

Tanking isn't about holding 100% perfect aggro on mobs. Most classes don't even have access to an AOE taunt. Even in Veteran content, unless your DPS are completely autistic they can easily survive getting beat on by a few trash mobs.

It's about pulling initial aggro by running in and getting the first hit, usually with an AOE damage ability. Then you just make sure the really nasty mobs are taunted onto you, which is usually only 1-2 mobs per group.
Good tanks will run one of the chain abilities to yank all the mobs into one spot so the DPS can burst them down in two seconds.

Your job is really more important for bosses, which absolutely require you to hold aggro on them. This usually just means knowing their mechanics so you know when to block/roll, and hitting a taunt button whenever it looks away from you.

Yeah, there aren't many dps check mechanics so soloing is just a matter of balancing enough mitigation/self heals to survive with enough damage to not fall asleep. Gold Road is included in plus now, the "content pass" IS the latest xpac. Basically, ZOS is running a skeleton crew (to focus on backend fixes if you believe them, or more likely because they've cannibalized staff for their new MMO) and rebranded Chapters into Passes to explain the different pace/quality of content even though its functionally the same shit and just confused people into thinking they were doing a battlepass or Destiny-style FOMO seasons.

The only big thing to consider is that you're getting a slightly worse deal than before. The new chapter doesn't have a big new feature like scribing/classes/a card game so they bundled in the new dungeons to compensate, so you're paying for something you were getting through plus anyway.

Does anyone else have a hard time taking the story seriously? Compared to Skyrim which seems like real life in its graphics and animations and writing. Skyrim seems real. However ESO has a cartoonish look to it and the animations look pretty bad. The voice acting and writing is also not the best. Especially a lot of the female characters have very bad voice acting. I have a hard time taking the story seriously and immersing myself in this game.

Weapons aren't doing the heavy lifting in most builds these days, so it doesn't actually matter that much. For reference, using snb over DW ultimately means I crit for around 47k instead of 52k. Yeah, if something isn't dying there's far more going wrong than my weapon choice. Use whatever you want, just be aware that it is slightly gimping your damage and some people will take issue with that in a group setting, especially if a run gets rough even if that's not the real problem.

If you're that worried I suggest just carrying a dagger to swap with your shield when grouping.
