World of Warcraft, the price for entry keeps the roleplayers invested. But because it's the most popular you are going to have very destructive personalities and BPD individuals. Easy to get into, hard to find what you want.
In second place is Lord of the Rings Online. Less popular, lots of jank, but still being updated to this day. The single downside is that if you don't enjoy Lord of the Rings there is next to nothing for you.

Definitely not ESO or FFXIV unless you want to develop a crippling gambling addiction that keeps you playing because the game is dead and garbage (ESO) or if you don't mind playing a FF game first and MMORPG 3rd

mortal online 2 is an immersive game where everyone ends up being in character without even trying to with VOIP

probably ffxiv or WoW
ffxiv due to extensive mod scene for second-life nad IMVU tier character design, but also because there's some good writers and world for it
WoW simply because as other anon said, price for entry keeps players interested and invested, not to mention rp for WoW is dead outside of Moonguard alliance.
in fact i could reach and say you should play Turtle WoW the private server, really popular RP scene there on both horde and alliance, but alliance being more plentiful.
