It's really inconsistent, sometimes you're catching a ball really far away and others it goes very close to your model without catching it. It doesn't help that some players are condemned to play GKs most of the time because they're loading first (my case), on top of the hitbox problems there's getting screwed over by the wrong animation playing or teammates blaming you at the first mistake (but them, they're too good for the role so they'll leave the goal post empty). My favourite though is definitely:

It's not a problem in RL because there is only a single mechanic, hitting the ball. How you hit it determines your mechanical skill, and the ball trajectory is always predictable except for corners.
