I (and others as well) get this weird freezes/crashes. Somehow survived with them until paragon 230 but died to the recent one. Game froze up like the 6th time today. Finished all season achievements and was pretty much done with my gear anyway. Game is still dog shit and and I don't see how its going to be better in the future. What the fuck do you even do in this game if its your "main game". You are basically done in a few days.

Am I retarded or did they bug out the escalation sigil drop rate? I did 25-30 guaranteed strong rooms today and 0 escalation sigils dropped

I think it's the "main game" for people who only play for 1-2 hours a day and take a few weeks to finish the season, and I think it's the "main game" for people who are brand new and still trying out all the classes and working on getting achievements/cat mounts.
If there were interesting/fun things to do with the new season, and if I didn't already have 100% achievements, then I'd play for longer, but ehhh I am ranking this as a below-average season on the "fun" scale. I got the season titles and things, so I'm out.
I'm curious what the sweeping QOL changes are that they've been teasing. I really want there to be a clan den so I can dump all my good stuff for other clannies to help them out and they can just get it whenever. Fren who wanted sorc gear: when are you logging in next?

Im a new player, me and my brother bought the ultimate edition bc we like to collect stuff, do we need to use the token for the pass shit asap or can we save for next season?

also, we are currently doing every side quest and dungeon we see on the map (we started the campaign instead of the dlc skip or whatever), should we do that or focus only on main quests?

should we save all the mats from rares and legos or can we use them as we go?

since you like collecting stuff, it's cool to do the side content. you can get the first 3 rewards doing hardly any of them though if that's all you want. I like to do half main quest, half side content, because you get way more loot from side content

a little strategic stockpiling is good but you should use your mats to get upgrades as you go, or else they will just be wasted potential as you'll outpace the miniscule amounts you're getting now

My keybinds are all different from default, but... go to your map and then press Y or whatever it is to pull up the box that lets you see achievements. You can see there what counts as achievement. I know for sure there is an achievement (with a mount if I'm remembering it right) for Nahantu region 100%ing all sidequests.

Tempted to re-buy it on Steam just so I have more reason to never touch bnet again. Should I? I like grim dawn and put some hours into PoE but I just dont vibe with those games much. Diablo lore however shit is still the most blizzard lore I've consumed

the seasonal tokens for reliquary rewards have to be used before the end of the season which ends in like 75 days, they cap at 99 and you only get a few rewards without spending platinum so buy the things you think are cool

you should save mats on the way to 60 for the alchemist potion upgrades every 10 levels, eventually you will wish you had more herbs/angelbreath and probably gold. what do you want to craft anyway? id say dont waste your mats on elixirs cause 5% exp really is not a lot but whatever is fun man

Im new to D4 and the game is fun. But the amount of systems in builds is overwhelming. Why are all these leveling builds suggesting highly specific aspects that are rng or not available until max level anyway?

I am not really enjoying the thrash build. Tried rake and I don't have proper vigor generation yet.

trap rogue, earthquake barb, firewall/hydra sorc, boulder/hurricane druid, defiled necro, basically every class has at least one ground aoe build.

a few have them but only once can make a build out of it: necro, it has a curse aura as an aspect (pic related), necro also has an aura ult soulrift, it's temp though but really strong, and you can mix it with the aforementioned defile necro to have both an aura and ground aoe build.

it's RNG but its fairly common, you should get it as a drop before you hit max level unless you get extremely unlucky (aspects are the powers that are in legendary items and legendarys are common as fuck) but you can do the defiled necro build from the word go.

it's the blight build, I was going by memory and misremember the name, you can also do sever/defile ground build, both have a leveling build and an endgame build that uses the aura after you find it. I recommend homebrewing a build after you get more familiar with the game since you have a very specific build in mind.

Look, I'm not saying you have to follow a guide--but maybe you want to LOOK at one or watch a vid to get the gist of what things synergize together. It seems like "oh hey this should work well with that", but once you start getting more paragon boards especially, you'd be surprised at what nodes and glyphs actually give you the most damage. It's not as obvious as it seems/should be.

Oh yeah to add on to this: things like attack speed buckets are not obvious. So if you're doing a companions druid, you want to look at werewolf attack speed which won't hit the cap on the one attack speed bucket, for instance.

More questions from a new and hyper casual. What incentives are there to playing difficulties beyond like torment? Are there mechanics or gear locked behind it or the higher pit floors or just better drop rates for rare hunting? Im not really in the business of pushing myself for the sake of it.

i changed a couple things shifting my build off companions into more of a stormshifting build and i'm feeling uncapped now. ironically this is the build i was trying to get into before i went on the companion path - i like how this aspect gives me a lightning bolt proc everytime i shapeshift. i have a lot of upgrading and enhancing i can do to take it farther and i just cleared artificer 40 which was feeling far off before the change

i will look into some stuff but i kinda like figuring out builds that other people aren't doing. but knowing stuff like whatever 'bucket' thing you're talking about will be useful

Also relies on lucky hit: 15% chance to restore resources to do it's main damage. Works well when fighting big groups but can be slow vs bosses if you don't get lucky hit procs.
Xan rune to allow your thorns damage to crit and overpower
Also using the general things most builds use, loyalty's mantle with double jaguar halls, plains power etc

Yes you can unlock the skin, the only difference the deluxe pass has is wings and an extra pet

The drop rate of these escalating dungeon key is TOO DAMN LOW! I've gotten like three this whole season and I'm pretty sure one of them was a pity key the game gives you to get started. Most of my play time is spent in NMD and I've used up all my keys with guaranteed strongrooms. What the hell is going on?

Had a friend telling me he was playing D2R the other day and he was having so much fun. Then realized he was playing on console. So I gave him some shit about using a controller. Then secretly went home and tried a sorc on controller, holy shit it controls pretty great. I always hated sorc gameplay, but it actually feels really good on controller. Plus on pc you can just instantly grab your mouse and do inventory and it auto-switches back and forth.

I did not tell him he was right the next day.

depends, i havent touched it since mid season 6 and it's fine, the seasonal power is neat in it's pretty powerful and disables annoying shit like damage resist, pulv druid and hydra sorc have relatively low requirements to get overpowered soon after 60 if you havent played one of them yet. pet necro still has an annoying playstyle, spiritborn has retarded masterworking reqs to feel good'ish in torment 4 but if you hit them it's up there with druid and sorc, the end game loop is basically the same since the xpac launch

So I just started season 9 and I am confused. Where is the content? Am I supposed to run nightmare dungeons over and over?

there is no content and there never was. all we get is a diffently colored season "mechanic". some times its green, some times its red etc. they have a strong idea of what their "coreloop" is supposed to look like. lil bit of helltides here, lil bit of nightmare dungeons for obols there, add in pit for glyphs and you are golden. they believe its a working system and they will NOT change it. this is d4 and its going to stay that way. its utter dog shit if you ask me. I am an ultra normie and I am pretty much done with most of the game has to offer after one weekend if I go all out. maybe a week if I feel like pushing into the paragon 200 levels. the expansion wont fundamentally change any of that other than maybe adding another class.

Honestly. I've played D4 since beta. I've played all the seasons. I played the expansion. I 100%ed all achievements. You can get a lot of gameplay out of D4 if you're achievement-hunting: forces you to kill blood maiden over 600 times, etc. But really doesn't take all that long in the grand scheme of things as an end-game objective.
Yeah the crafting mats farm locations are set and functional. The boss mat farming is set and functional. The seasonal quest gives some kind of new sidequesty adventure, which can either be interesting narrative-wise or flat out stupid (le trace a pentagram on the ground). The powers and gems are similar across seasons. Idk it is what it is I guess. Just seems a shame since there is opportunity with an open world set up and clan mechanic for possible group interaction. Trading is busted, and the duping and RMT is not going to change. I don't want to be a doomer, but I just see a lot of room for creativity, and it's kind of disappointing that it's all so milquetoast.

i'm tired of this culture around blizzard games with everyone trying to engage in this ongoing petition / open conversation bullshit with blizzard, demanding changes and whining about every fucking thing. i'm going to start a new generation of certified blizzdrones who just enjoy the slop and don't complain

Is D4 best played like an actual RPG or just a drop-in adventure-mode-only grind run like d3? I'm going through both 2R and 4 in tandem and the latter is getting my blood pumping just going through the Rogue Monastery but 4 just feels like some top-down GTA successor running errands between slav huts and the only thing that stuck with me in act 1 was "Wait, Necromancer Jesus was just chilling in an autism den this whole time?" I legitimately feel like I'm playing the game wrong like I did with 3 originally.

I dont get this game. They have a bonus to tree of whispers but farming whispers is awful and unfun outside of Helltides. Not only that but we still can't see which nightmare dungeon keys have whispers attached to them. Season 9 really feels awful in terms of content. I really miss the witch power shit, at least there was constantly something to farm and decent drops. Now the game feels like a damn slog.

After playing the expansion, I was so tired of this game that I quit. I am now considering giving this season a try. Is it worth it? To me, classes were just really boring and there was no real point in getting better gear.

Honestly, I am not having a good time. The game performance has tanked drastically. I lag every time I teleport, every time I walk from one area to the next in the open world. There is some wonky code or something causing constant lag and stuttering.

Outside of the performance the game still feels lacking. Season 9 didn't really add anything. They just lazily redesigned the nightmare dungeons by putting another dungeon inside of the dungeon. On top of that the drops feel like shit. I have been playing for hours and can barely find ancestral to gear myself with.

If you decide to play then expect to be disappointed.

Playing IV has made me realise that I don’t want a top down ARPG anymore.

The music and art design are phenomenal, that Diablo 1’s formula just doesn’t fit for the scope and presentation of the game anymore.

The only things the camera affords are nostalgia and ease of navigation for randomised dungeons.

I think V should be a more typical third person ARPG, with the same combat pacing the series had.
The problem is that the gameplay and camera staples of the genre are too popular, and so the above ideas would be met with scorn.

I think it's a great idea personally. Top-down ARPG's are a relic of the 90s/00s, nowadays people want 3rd person games. Warframe and TFD show that you can have third person and a ton of shit going on without issue. A third-person Diablo game where you dash through dungeons smashing everything with your greathammer and picking up loot would have been kick ass. Also third person makes the whole fashion game 10x better since you can see other players and their gear much easier.

I can probably clear pit tier 65 soon and maybe higher if I tweak gear further but I don't see it going to the big leagues. I use the greatstaff of the crone like the "stormclaw" builds but I put a lot into lightning bolt damage and I use cataclysm and i swap wolf-bear-wolf nonstop. Since I finally fit cataclysm into the build that's become my primary damage so I guess I might have to transition into full stormclaw or full cataclysm next if I want to go higher. I finally got tempest roar with the goblin event giving me crazy obols so I guess I could go stormclaw. - run two (2) more escalating nightmares with the "strongroom affix"

I feel like most of the ability rotations in diablo 4 are just tediously reapplying buffs every X number of seconds rather than needing me to tactically think through when I should use my different abilities.
Most of these abilities should just be autocasts.

I’m playing through it now as a new player, and it’s probably a 9/10 experience so far.

The build variety is great, coming from MMOs where skill trees, skills and equipment effects are extremely static.

OST is phenomenal. Story’s interesting and well presented, high difficulty combat is good, bosses are varied.

The visual’s and atmosphere are too macabre though.

The first playthrough of D4 is fun and new and exciting. Even with all the problems at launch, most people had a fun time with D4 because of the novelty.
But now we are 9 seasons deep, and even with expansion, the novelty is wearing thin. Every season is new powers with new gems--this new season is the first one that is going to add different gear like D3 would do sometimes, which at least mixes it up a little. I heard they are increasing unique drops fwiw, but I'm sure it's only 1GA drops that will be increased. The endgame loop is RMT for belial mats and killing him thousands of times and ignoring all the other bosses. That being said, the people I know who are having the most fun still with the game 100% ignore build guides and streamers and make their own goofy build getting creamed on T4 constantly and don't/can't complete the season journey without having a friend who does have a meta build carry them through the objectives. Heck even in D3 these same people were doing goofy things (but with sets) and could complete the season journey. I'm not complaining btw, I'm just saying it like it is. It is what it is. And I will be back to complete next season journey anyway. (and probably buy that slutborn slutmog after all)

Now you can freely modify your skills with support gems for varied uses like AoE, damage or elemental ailments/elemental infusions

Proper gameplay loop. Back when they used to finish games before release, had a settled skills system and content progression curve. Modern games release unfinished, chasing profits, trying to constantly juggle between catering and "innovating", usually ending up with something which only appears to shareholders and people with their brains turned off. Modern gaming is shit - not mildly so, it's quite literally piloted by people who hate their customers and do it exclusively for their own prestige. Blizzard isn't even a company nowadays, but you should know that and know why it's gone. It was killed, long ago.

The lost art of sprites. Surprised no one considers the importance of specific visual techniques. Sprites look cool. Aside from this the entire aesthetic is very consistent, easy to grasp and good looking. Diablo 3 and 4 do not visually have anything to do with the first 2. It looks like an entirely different franchine. The music and sound effects come next. It just fits perfectly to the game from the opening screen to the end. I would kill for the lost Diablo 2 source code to be found and another proper expansion made. Project D2 makes me wonder what could have been as it fixes most problems and adds some gameplay value.

Visuals aren't just nostalgia my guy they have their own distinct appeal. If you like sprites they're timeless like any form of artwork. The latest greatest graphics don't look better for many genres of games. Like for example some of the fighting games.

Yeah some redditor posted about that a long time ago. I had already estimated the drop rates were as bad when I quickly finished the season chapter objectives and quit the season in less than a week. That experiment confirmed that I made the right choice. Season 9 was awful.
Season 10 is supposed to make the drop rates better, and mythics coming from hordes instead of only bosses is a nice change, but who knows what the GA chance in hordes is going to be. At least the boss timesink phase is going away.

I think your play experience shows a decision-making process of an intelligent player seeing the lay of the land and making a rational decision. Once you get to that level of paragon and don't see the things that you need, then why bother continuing to proverbially bang your head against the wall. It has nothing to do with muh dopamine hits of seeing good gear, but rather everything to do with not being able to progress further without the good gear. It entirely makes sense to just quit after objectives are completed and call it a day.
I think it's a good idea for playtime longevity that S10 is going to have some class-specific seasonal powers, because I just might want to try out that one class that does that one cool thing that my current character can't do. So I'll make a new character and grind for the new class gear and try it out to see how it compares.
The only other thing to grind out is achievement-hunting to extend playtime. Most of the achievement-hunters are done with all of that if they've been playing D4 since the last expansion anyway, so just waiting for the new expansion to drop.
