"Does this server have custom content" was the threshold in which I set for whether a server is designated as Vanilla or Customized, when originally rewriting the OP to showcase a wider variety of servers others than just Starscape.

Every single TERA server out there has /some/ sort of changes to either level progression, skill rebalancing, gear effectiveness, etc. But only a few of them have very explicitly made custom additions ontop of the existing formula.
Agaia has its Talismans, which radically alter class rotations on a fundamental level. Arborea features several Dungeons which were built entirely from the ground up, and are wholly exclusive to that specific server.
Both Starscape and Classic only work with the content which was originally created by the devs themselves (at least so far), and as such, are close enough to the original source material to qualify for the Vanilla/Mostly Vanilla tag.

Regardless, for anyone reading this, play whichever version you find most appeals to (You), rather than going this batty over petty semantics.

"Tera Classic" is probably the one and only chance you have at experiencing this MMO in the year 2025+.
The server may get DMCA'ed tomorrow, or the furry running this shit may say "fuck it all" and just nuke it, but regardless, this is probably the only chance you have, whether you missed out or is itching for another shot at it.

There is a perpetual shortage of tanks. That's always the bottleneck for any leveling dungeon's queue.
Healers are actually pretty common in TERA, so they aren't really given special treatment for queue times either, at least compared to most other themepark-style MMOs. Both DPS and healers get to sit in queues for 5-20+ minutes, while tanks tend to hover around the 0-3 minute range, unless you're playing during dead hours.
Strongly recommend you chip away at whichever red quests are nearest to your level, while waiting for things to finally pop.

Classic is that unfortunate patch where a lot of content was just cut and nerfed, and reaper and gunner weren't balanced (not that they ever were, really). I don't think bttp was originally part of this either, but was implemented only on this server, so you get lvl65s mixed in to further cheese dungeons. People have to be comfortable in their class and that comes with building muscle memory and fucking around with keybinds and making adjustments every time a new skill comes in. Adaptation is something that should be challenged and exercised and the levelling experience is good for that because you also get rewarded with progress. So what's the classic update at? Pre-reaper hopefully, as that's when the pve/pvp balance got fucked in typical Korean fashion. Just reaper day 1 alone makes pvp unfun because it's objectively a terrifyingly powerful class with little effort. If you hit someone at all they are fucked because all reaper's openings either stagger or stun, and the combo is as simple as clicking the next button after that and the player can't do shit other than lose all their health. Even a full archer combo couldn't kill priest/mystic. Reaper genuinely was the beginning of the end for the game as far as class balance goes.

To return to discussing the actual game for a moment...
In digging around a bit, apparently Lancers are having trouble holding aggro in lategame encounters when paired with especially well-geared DPS (mostly Gunners), even when going all-out.

The need to assign all Crystal slots to Threat% bonuses rather than Boss.DMG%, a lack of convenient routes into Spring Attack (no Debilitate -> SA or Shield Counter -> SA as seen in later versions), plus Spring Attack itself still comprising the bulk of Lancer's damage output in this version (as opposed to Shield Counter/Wallop/Onslaught), has resulted in a tank which barely deals any damage to the point of not reliably holding aggro without liberal usage of their shouts. A poor MP economy only furthers this classes' shortcomings at their given role.
This has apparently been a recurring issue for Lancer in nearly every other v32 server as well, due to the state of how each class stacked-up at the time of this version's archival. So far as I've learned of it, many of these issues were addressed in the very next major patch the official game received following v32 (the "Go Berserk" update), so hopefully some of those alterations can be back-ported to this incarnation of the game as well.

None of this should surprise anyone experienced with v32 servers in the past, granted. But as someone who only started taking TERA seriously with Starscape just a few months ago, I thought it was pretty interesting to note the lingering issues with this title's premiere tank at this very specific point in the game's lifecycle still plague it all these years later, when revisiting this older version in [current year].

Generally the main developer doesn't seem too interested in balancing pve, both regarding how classes function and regarding gearing. After hitting 65 your main way of gearing is spamming Ravenous Gorge. Ravenous Gorge. Hello? This dungeon has been stuck as the designated low tier dungeon for over a decade now, there is no reason to have it again, and to have to do it 30 times no more no less to maybe get a discovery weapon. All of the people in discovery that I inspected with that mod that allows you to see runs had 30 BR and about 30+ RG runs. On top of it all I did multiple Bathysmal Rise runs, only to have nothing drop. Not a single accessory or gear piece. This is the most cancerous gear progression I've encountered on any Tera Private server, and I've probably played through them all so far besides Starscape. I'm really feeling tricked by all the people shilling classic here before it exploded in popularity, I can't believe they wanted to rope people into this grind back when the server had barely a 100 people.
I'm feeling ill just thinking about having to do RG again and having each boss take 2-3 minutes while the bosses hit like wet paper towels and make me fall asleep. At least I have the privilege of alt tabbing as a healer only to alt tab back in and refreshing estars/triple nem and mana. The dps don't kek.

Big yikes to this server and the genious dev that's more obsessed with banning toolbox users and wanting to contact krafton than anything relevant. Gear progression and some basic balance should have been here on the arrival of the server, not like 2 months in...

Truthfully, all along the leveling climb, I've sorta been wondering when the heck v32 gets, like, actually engaging.
It's been quite interesting to see just how measurably different the vibe of this much older incarnation of TERA happens to be compared to v100, and I do still want to continue raising both my Priest and Lancer to the level cap during my time here. But outside of the scramble which occurs when pulling huge packs of Dungeons, nothing I've seen so far on Classic has stacked-up in appeal gameplay-wise compared to the absurd bosses seen in the lategame of Starscape.

That said, I'm sure stages like Sky Cruiser would be even more brutal here than they were on v100, if only due to the generally slower pace every class operates at, along with having fewer tools to work with in general.
v100 bosses compensated for the power in players' kits by having loads of instant-kills they could perform at a moment's notice, so I'm interested to see where the balance of encounter design might've been resting in v32's snapshot of development. Whether I'll actually make it to the lategame of Classic to see for myself is up for debate, but at the least, it's still my primary MMO focus for the time being.

Somewhat understandable. The APM required to perform well on v100 is pretty ludicrous for most classes.
I probably spoiled myself a little by starting my time in TERA on a v100 server, setting expectations for how fast or slow things tend to be unfairly. But I've often enjoyed fast-paced, action-y MMOs like Vindictus, Dragon Nest, etc, so having to step-up to the APM necessary on Starscape was more of a positive than a negative to me, at least for the classes I ended up favoring. (No way I'd try playing something RNG-heavy like Warrior or Sorcerer over there).

Even if I, myself, still prefer v100's gameplay over v32's so far, I'm willing to give Classic more of a shot over the coming weeks to gain a fuller understanding of why (or why-not) this specific version was (supposedly) so beloved in its day.
Plus, who knows, Classic might be the last time we ever see much Anon activity in this title at-large, and the novelty of seeing TFT alive again (for however-long) does count for something.

TERA's endgame was always PvP, so if you weren't into that there was nothing to do except ERP since achieving hardcap was so easy. This was the problem with all themepark MMOs which is why the formula switched to sandbox MMOs; if you didn't constantly shit out new content then you'd lose players. You legitimately need to come up with a meaningful infinite grind otherwise players will eventually "beat" the game and just leave because there's no more stats/cosmetics to unlock. FFXIV is only an exception because the emote/target player system is so intimate so it's a good game to casually just hangout even though there's nothing to do, and of course the mod scene doubled down on this and made it the designated hangout game.
TERA retention has nothing to do with leveling or its dungeons. It just needs an endgame you can grind forever, but as it stands there's nothing like that once you get max gear/cosmetics and gold/grinding becomes pointless.

I've been on this server for a fair bit before it exploded and have been doing the end game stuff for a while. You're not wrong that the gearing content is pretty limited and boring, since it's basically spam rg/gg/brnm for mats and disc tokens. If you want a fast way to get gear the secret is scnm, which has like triple the drop rate chance of disc gear of even brhm (yesterday I had a reaper and gunner weapon drop, along with chest gloves and boots) but for some reason people on this server were scared to do scnm until maybe 3 weeks ago so everyone geared the slow way, mainly because no one had the dps to clear the mob waves.

The only engaging pve content right now is schm and dreadspire. Well, for me brhm was engaging for a while.. Doing BRHM as an idoneal lancer with a full party of idoneals was the most fun I've had in a while coming from a game like ffxiv and if it wasn't for the corpse running being a thing this would be an actual challenge to most gearing people. But now that I have full +12 disc it's just another chore more or less.

But I think people liked this version of Tera for its full package: the PvE was just a part of it, but a big part of it was the PvP (both arena and open world). I also wish this version of "Classic" didn't have reaper and gunner, I think if we were on the argon patch with backported schm and other future plans it would have been more fun. This patch is awkward in that now you're forced to sit in highwatch and queue into a few boring dungeons, doing boring upkeep things like GG and VG dailies where you just teleport from quest to quest and not much open world interaction is going on. If it was the argon patch the world would somewhat be more alive as people farm bams for VM mats, there would be pvp for regions in vanarchies, and probably a lot more gvg pvp during nexus. But even back then you would have had to spam cw, kg, tot, and acnm/achm/mcnm to gear up for the actual fun fights which were mchm and knhm.

i've only done a few RGs so far
all of my runs have had healers/tanks and the bosses take like 8-10 minutes
stuff does tons of damage to me, like if i don't dodge a random swipe it does 50-80% of my hp
i did one run without a healer but the server wasn't getting attacked at the time so i could actually dodge things

The things to look forward to imo are that even though it's limited, schm is still a beast to kill, and it's currently filtering the 2 or 3 groups which are trying to server first it, and dreadspire too. schm is genuinely pretty challenging, not so much for v100 players maybe but the lack of aspd and mobility balances out the slower bosses in v32. Everything in schm oneshots, even for a lancer I can't tank some of his hits if he's enraged, which we will certainly need because he's auto enraged sub 20%. Since my group swapped out a priest for a mystic I'm trying to get a renegade chest so that I can actually block those enraged hits because I don't think our mystic can keep up the heals. The dps check is kinda nutty.. 20% in 3 minutes, the only dumb thing is that a group of geared gunners and zerks can for sure beat it pretty easily as gunner is pretty cheesy. If it weren't for baldurs, my group wouldn't have been able to beat the mob waves in schm, which is a stupid statement in itself and a testament to how stupidly overpowered gunner is in all content. And as healers schm is not as easy as it seems and actually be quite fun.

The future is pretty exciting tho, because they plan to bring back a ton of content and make it extremely hard. After FoK, they plan to rework knhm 20-man and mchm to be way harder than they were on patch, and sub 8% Shandra Manaya is a terrorist. Whhm is also being worked on which people seem to have nostalgia for (not really for me it was a pretty boring dungeon but I liked running it with the guildies). All of which is to say, give it a chance and please look forward to it because at least personally I am. And I guess.. as a pvper, I could just play pvp all day to tide me over until new content arrives.

I will say though, lancer is able to hold aggro on this patch, it just requires a very high skill check to do so. So, git gud :^) You need to have actual proper crystals and rolls on your gear, and then have a rotation where you shout and rallying cry on cooldown and get in as many shield counters as humanly possible. Against good berserkers you have to time your adrenaline rush with their bloodlust. Shield barrage cancel is also a really useful hard to master tech that probably speeds up your rotation by 15-20% (20% more aggro) and it's been fun trying to learn and perfect it, so maybe it can be for you too Alle. It also lets you finish things which you normally cannot without it which all adds to more damage and aggro. I seriously hope they don't buff lancer aggro generation because it's at just the right spot where you can do it with enough skill, but most people are so bad at the game that they'll cry about losing aggro and for sure they'll "fix" it in the near future. All that is needed imo is for hold the line to be actually useful, because dropping it from taking any source of damage is silly. That small bump in aggro should be enough to help most players hold aggro better, while making you actually work for it.

My hope is that enough Anon, be they from TFTs, Tired, Mahou, whatever, make it to 65 and have the opportunity to start gearing-up together. Running dungeons with folks you know tends to be more enjoyable (or at least tolerable), compared to putting-up with whatever's dealt to you via the random queue.
At the moment, level distribution in TFTs is pretty all-over-the-place. We have some Anon who rode the wave of hype during the server's first big week and have already made it to 65, alongside newbloods and returnees showing up with fresh accounts. The majority of folks seem to be stuck in the 40s/50s (much as my Priest certainly is...), when NT/GL/SSG spam really starts to kick into overdrive (made all the worse by how horrendous these queues are, due to a chronic lack of tanks in the leveling bracket).

Will be interesting to see who's still around in a couple weeks' time.
If someone can survive the leveling grind now, when queues for SSG can span over an hour (at least from my experience), they likely have the tolerance to put-up with slogging through RG to get their Discovery Weapon. (Though maybe not on two characters).

The dungeon queues throughout the 50s have been pretty brutal, however. Not helped by my odd hours relative to the server's population.
Honestly half-considering just shelving this Priest of mine to shift focus on continuing to raise my Lancer instead.
Feel like I'm not spending my time as effectively as I could be, with every day not at 65 equating to potential gold/resource loss. Didn't expect to only be in my 50s on this Priest, after over a week straight...

brnm drops on average 5 disc medallians per run, while rg drops anywhere from 0-6, so all told it shouldn't be more than a week of running dungeons to start getting pieces. The bottleneck is enchanting mats, not disc drops.

Sky Cruiser(Normal) was pretty manageable on Starscape from what I recall, although I could never properly read the final bosses' left/right cleaves for whatever reason. That was with post-Apex classes, however, and the limited tools (and much less stat-loaded gear) available in v32 would likely make even that stage a proper challenge. Should be interesting to see.

For PvP, yeah, that's understandable. Although from what I've been told by another vet during my time on Starscape, macros and rotation automation ran rampant during the latter years of this title's life, so I wouldn't be surprised if some basic macro usage was commonly employed after just a few years of TERA's official run.
Files commonly spread during the 2010s for this 32-bit version have long-since been lost to the aether, so who's to say how many ancient, class-specific *.ahk's still reside on people's 'drives. Or *.gpk's for modding, but that's another topic altogether.

Not comparable. The barrier to entry and actually have clear potential for an individual, much less a group, is much lower in MCHM and KNHM compared to v32 shit. could shave off over 30 minutes by just knowing where to grind

After three straight nights of dreadfully slow queues, I finally caught one hell of a surge of interest in Sky Garden, clearing stage after stage with barely a moment to rest.
Either I simply got lucky with the queues for once, or there's a non-negligible portion of Classic's population finally catching up to the 50s, bringing a sizable portion of players to this level bracket... Or perhaps most importantly, /tanks/ within this leveling bracket.

Managed to ride the Sky Garden wave all the way to 58, where I grabbed my freebies in Kaiator, snagged some relatively cheap gear 129 gear off the Marketplace (barring accessories), and caught a run of Cultist's Refuge to cap the night off. Hell of a lengthy place, this one...!
Was later informed CR (or this server's version of CR anyway - shares an abbreviation with Commander's Residence for v100 servers), used to be endgame during the earliest days of this title, and it certainly felt like things were finally starting to step-up in complexity. Still nothing major yet, but it's nice to see /some/ semblance of mechanics starting to enter the picture; plus it's neat seeing the origins of animation rigs and boss attacks which would later go on to be used in certain v100 fights as well.

A nice boost in progression, this morning was.

While I do want to see more of Starscape at some point, it'll likely be quite a good while before I've made my way back there. If not for Classic, then for GW2's next major expansion releasing in October. Finally a proper Inquest/Asura-focused expansion, definitely not missing out on that one.

so for boosting in dungeons:
you have to be near the final boss to get vanguard credit
10 (15?) minute cd on re-entering based on when you hit the first mob
if the zone has quests you can do it seems worth doing
but the vanguard BAMs quests seem faster (if it is good)
seem to have to do the dungeon a few times to get the tier level BAM unlocked and then find a spot where the alt can afk and be in range of 15-20 spawns, then just run in a circle killing them
like the protect the farms and the basilisks ones were good
<1 minute per quest and you needed like 7-8 quests to match the dungeon IW bonus
