What is DSOAL-GW1?
>When GW was released in 2005, the audio component of Microsoft’s DirectX API was something called DirectSound. This is the setup I made last thread. The 2 warrior builds are abusing this months flux which gives you stacking damage increase (up to 30% bonus damage) when you use a different attribute skill then last. You basically cycle between penetrating blow and symbolic strike, using battle rage whenever it runs low to maintain +30% damage on your attacks. Symbolic strike will slap people for nearly 100 damage and you can spam it basically every other hit.

The necro is a melee support curse necro pretty good enchant rip and condi removal. And barbs + defile + cracked armor can create unexpected melee spikes.

The rit is a pretty standard channeling support rit this set up is very energy efficient so it should be able to just spam skills off cooldown. Ancestors rage can set up some 200 damage spikes if it happens to explode while the warrior is doing a symbolic strike.


I thought about doing a silly hex spam setup since most teams don't seem to run heavy hex clear but this seemed way funnier.

I try to always make each thread with a different OP picture unless I really specifically liked one of them, after making these threads for almost 3 years I am starting to run out of pictures lol always open to community submissions for what OP should be. My only requirement is that you can easily tell it's a picture of guild wars.

90% of the time you are bouncing between symbolic strike and penetrating blow for this build. Without battle rage you need to attack 4 times to build enough adrenaline to use it. With battle rage you get double adrenaline from attacks so every 2 attacks you can spam out 100 damage. Because battle rage takes 4 adrenaline to use it is extremely easy to fund it, so even if you wanted to use a signet (which you shouldn't it's generally not worth it but maybe there's some devestating skill you can rupt) you can just immediately use battle rage again.

The signets are almost purely on the bar for powering up symbolic strike, but they are versatile in that you can spam that before entering combat to build up your flux bonus to 30% before moving in for a single strike.

tl;dr the signets on this bar are almost purely for powering up symbolic strike and battle rage exists to fund your ability to spam symbolic strike even faster.

Fellas, I'm in a particular bind. I recently picked up a couple pretty complete-in-box collectors edition boxes of Factions and Nightfall for cheaper than fast food. Obviously the code's are long gone but the discs are all there. Are there any private servers that let me skip the authenticating process, like what WoW private servers do?

Quests that update by themselves update for everyone who has it in their log.
If you particularly need to talk to someone or do something then everyone has to do it separately, but you don't have to leave the same instance.
Example: If the quest says to go kill McNigger, pick up his watermelon, then talk to Chuck to turn the quest in, everyone who has the quest will have it update when McNigger dies, pick up a separate watermelon, then everyone has to go talk to Chuck to turn it in. You never have to leave a zone or duplicate effort for people in the same party doing quests.

BTW, yes, at level 6 you should be totally fine going up the foothills in WIzard's Folly. Try not to over-aggro. Bandits are only level 1 or 2 there.

Sadly i switched to the elementalist trial skills so now i have the aoe Fire shower, ranger seemed the coolest as a sub class.
I try not to spam Signet/Rage in combat too much. I think what happens is i stay in the NPC's fire shower and that just chunks me.

Actually i went back and just did it, so what i did was break the pack of 6 into 2 by using the meteor spell, the spell that chunked me is Flare, deals ~16 on first hit then 30~50 and my HP is 240, crazy damage even when i split them up.

i have completed all side quests on my prog character except kessex peak
it's a pretty nice feeling. opening it and seeing nothing.
i was just thinking earlier how sitting in gw is kinda nice. just the visual setup of tiny character in big world, low poly/high definition, low amount of things i have to do high amount of things i can do. very opposite from modern mobages which have a bajillion checklists and a bajillion rewards on a bajillion timers. so many things to do but doing any of them doesn't mean anything. but in gw nothing moves unless i do something.

There's maybe 2-3 quests in the game that are actually useful for ferrying, and only 1 people actually care about (consulate docks). As far as farming quests there are a few but most of the best farming spots in this game do not require quests the only ones worth caring about:

-A chance encounter (WoC for ministrel commendations)
-Farmer Hamnet (Pre-Searing XP)

Honorable mentions:
-Chasing Zenmai + Afflicted Guard + Drunken Master so you can clear bukdek byway for vanquish fast the 1-2 times per YEAR it shows up (during this ZV you can easily find a group to do it on all your alts).
-Drakes on the plain if you are a speedrunner who gives a shit about getting drake kabobs (just buy them and farm literally ANYTHING else)

All other farming quests exist to farm nick trophys once every 3 years, or are farms that were useful in 2006 such as the ascalon settlement feather farm.

I don't think there's ever been a time where I've completed a quest and later went "oh damn wish I still had that" and I use to farm nick sets every week for months.

tl;dr don't stress about it, the farming quests aren't that important and are usually eclipsed by non quest farming spots.

The Wurms being mandatory after the first Desloation mission was pretty disappointing. It's the only thing I don't like about any of the locations in Elona.

I am planning on a full gw1 playthrough with 2 other people and am wondering what the better (or best in case i end up playing when we are done) solo classes are that also excel in small groups. I am currently leaning towards ranger or elementalist but i know absolutely nothing about the game. one of them is planning to go mesmer I think. also which class has the best slutwear.

Mesmer, Ranger, Necromancer, Warrior, Elementalist, in that order is my experience for carrying solo play with Prophecies starting classes. Elementalists are glass cannons so they need to be looked after, a good Warrior player in the party is great for herding enemies. I haven't created a Monk character so I can't say, but if the idea is to play with friends any of them are good choices. The fun part is, with Smiting skills and secondary classes, you don't just have to be the party's heal daddy, so consider that if anyone has reservations about playing a Monk.

Female Elementalists are the sluttiest by far, especially the Nightfall sets. Although the Mesmers get a straight up nightgown as a prestige set

If you fancy playing ele, a quick rundown for the flavors of magic is:
Air magic is usually for single-target damage with armor penetration, and some spells have conditions like blindness and cracked armor.
Fire magic is a big 'ole bucket of AoE and almost always applies a burning condition to target and nearby enemies
Earth magic is a mix of offense and support in that it uses a lot of knockdown, slowing, and wards in addition to damage
Water magic deals less damage overall and has a lot more party support / enemy control.

I strongly suggest playing the game blind, but when you are hitting a wall check out the wiki and pvx for info & builds to take inspiration from.

You can choose any profession for solo play. It doesn't matter. You only have one direct damage skill line on monk (can use secondaries too of course), but it's also actually fun and useful to heal/prot with real prayers.

Mesmer has classy slutwear, like the hot librarian who takes off her glasses and is a 10/10 who sucks the life out of your cock. Elementalists has the nasty slutwear like some hoe you find stoned at a concert who you rail behind the porta potties and feel like you need to get an STD panel done the very next day.

We use to do SF but toward the end of progs we typically have high burnout and I got pretty lukewarm responses when I asked in the past if people were interested in SF coupled with rewards being kinda meh, and the difficulty having a large range from kinda boring to god awful, on a bad day SF can take 2 sessions to complete. I'm always open to it but if we're interested in doing more than just FoW post prog, I think ToPK would be a better area.

Just started playing again for the first time after the release of gw2. Unfortunately I lost access to my original account and bought the game again in the sale.

It's crazy how much fun this game still is. I tried so many online rpg games over the years including gw2, but they all kinda suck. That's fine, GW1 isn't for everyone, game is designed more like a cooperative RPG with team based elements in a world where most MMO's nowadays are "playing solo together" with your only meaningful interactions with other players often being seeing them "exist" in the world, and occasionally doing dungeons with them. As each game endlessly try to copy eachother (and WoW) and often fail miserably. Few games are willing to boldly explore new frontiers, why play a WoW clone when you can just play WoW after all.

The reason we still play this game is because there's simply nothing else like it on the market, there's no true successor to GW1 because GW2 tried to follow the WoW path (and failed miserably) making a game that didn't appeal to GW1 fans, or many WoW players. There's not really been another MMO designed in the same team based structure GW1 has with it's deck building skill system, theory crafting teams and designing heros who synergize together is fun.

It's why even though the last PvP balance patch was 13 years ago, the PvP scene is still thriving here and starting to grow as more people become aware of it.

It doesn't. But you are still building it as a resource. Hitting twice when you have a TaO and SoH each giving +16 per hit means The skill hits actually pretty hard. The skill doesn't actually scale with swordsmanship so it's great for going with the 12 expertise 12 tactics. Protector's strike is used because the cast time means it can cancel the end lag of a non-cast time attack, effectively fake IAS. Again it doesn't need investment in strength to be useful

how do you decide what profession to pick? I played gw1 all the way back in middle school and played ranger mesmer, and now coming back I can't decide between ranger or mesmer or elementalist or necromancer for a primary profession. I just got a mesmer elementalist up to level 8 and into post searing, but I do want to also do a ranger monk or some kind of necromancer or elementalist and it's very frustrating bc I don't want to go through the Ascalon opening fifty more times before settling on a character. mesmer feels pretty weak so far, though I just got to the post searing and haven't gotten any new skills yet so idk how true that is for the rest of the game

Chasing Zenmai removes all of the foes from Bukdek Byway, then you need a quest to spawn some in OR explore very carefully to only reveal one group and then flag your heroes over to the group to kill it.

Factions' difficulty spike when you hit the mainland is infamous due to the enemy level jump. My experience playing GW1 even back in the day was that it wasn't too hard most of the time, but there are build/skill checks that tend to hard-stop your progress until you figure it out. The ones that always come to mind are Elona Reach and Tahnnakai Temple.
Kaining City is probably my favorite region in the game, it's the kind of poverty-stricken urban hellscape that wraps back around to being comfy as fuck.

When I'm feeling super sweaty I'll sometimes multi account double ritualist, one plays ST, other plays SoS because both are super low APM. Movement for ST is pretty easy since I just gotta keep it super backline so I can focus on playing SoS correctly but I feel like anything over like 3 or 4 accounts would seriously impact your ability to play any of the accounts better than a hero.

These were our final prog builds as well, I think the W/N was our most effective build on team. But overall had a lot of really inspired builds this prog. I'm sad my judge's insight max armor pen W/Mo didn't work out, but balth spirit made this build go kinda crazy could almost spam my elite constantly.

With this, our prog is complete now it's time for post prog activities. If you were not part of the prog but would like to join for this you are more than welcome to but you will need to abide by prog rules which means you need to play a 50/50 build (50% of your bar per profession) and use proph/core only skills

10/26 - Halloween UW run (non prog bring anything) I'll need to check my schedule to make sure I'm not working this day, time is up for debate, and potentially day might be changed will let people know next week.

Also I have a proposal for future progs: Often times we have prog members who aren't able to make it through the entire prog either due to shifting schedules or interest, I am proposing that we have a mercenary hero set up to sit in their place running whatever build they last had before they left us on days they miss. We must all suffer the consequences of kensuke's decisions when making a build.

Whenever we have a prog that is only 7 people we will instead vote on thread what our 8th party member profession should be, and each member of the prog will be able to lock a single skill onto their bar. While Claude and other henchies are true to the "prog" spirit I think this would be more fun and chaotic way to make some extra cursed builds.

Next prog will likely happen in late November/early December. We'll talk about it more next thread.

I'm expecting us to wipe at least once in ToPK, an optimal team can probably do it in like 20-30 minutes but I'm expecting a full run to take us at least an hour to get through.

With the hero scaling, by time you hit 8 man parties you are usually assumed to be level 20, though you are right for lower level groups it might be a problem.

I'm of 2 minds for how the merc hero skills could work:

1) We roll dice to determine order, the first and 2nd picks have a lot of power to determine what attributes we'll be using, whoever picks last gets to decide the elite.

2) Everyone gets to pick 1 skill, and 1 elite, whichever elite has most votes will be chosen.

For remaining skills we could either all propose skills and whichever most popular ones are get added. Or we can go the chaos option and allow non prog people who are watching thread to decide what we must suffer with on the hero's bar. Personally I think leaving it up to non prog thread watchers might be funny.

I think ToPK has some decent replay value mostly for the challenge (it's harder than FoW imo) and because it's almost guaranteed green drops which can be fun. SF on the other hand is really long, and has a lot of slow boring missions, there are a few fun challenges and moments, but the slow sections in between make it a bit of a drag to play, especially if we full wipe and have to walk all the way back.

Ecto's typically crash when Halloween is only a week or 2 away, there's a CHANCE they might go up again, but there's also a chance it's just going to drop hard till new year.

The best time to sell ecto's is almost always around the last week of september that is when arms barons (and botters) are turning their gold into ectos. I wouldn't worry too much about farming, find a profession you enjoy first also I'd highly recommend staying far away from PvX and what's considered "meta" one of the true joys of this game is experimenting with builds and creating cool combo's. Only consider going to the PvX if you're trying to do HM dungeons/elite areas or HM WiK/WoC with heroes only. If you are struggling with a mission or area go to the wiki first, they have good advice for what to bring and strategies.

New players make a huge mistake when playing this game of immediately trying to set up a meta esurge team as fast as physically possible in order to beat campaigns on NM, sure they complete the missions fast, but it becomes a hold W simulator where all enemies die in 3 seconds and you are bored out of your mind because nothing is challenging. Maybe some people like that, but this game is a lot more fun if you treat it like a strategy deck builder where you have to figure out what works best and create synergies to combo with your heroes.

I'm going for GWaMM on a Necro, I highly recommend it if you're at all interested in the class and care about build variety. It can run a variety of minion builds, caster damage with icy veins/discord, bomber builds with dark aura + contagion/ravenous gaze, buff support with orders or BiP, debuff support with curses, melee with soul taker, or backline as either a healer or prot, and it's good at all these things. Its debuff support and caster damage options are a bit weak relative to other options, but still decent. I don't think any other class has the ability to viably fill as many different roles.

Don't worry about farming unless it's something you actually enjoy doing. You can make enough money for most things by just playing the game. If you're doing vanquishes, dungeons, HM missions, and so forth, you will make enough money to get crafted weapons and good runes for yourself and all your heroes. If you want more than that (e.g. a fancy skin or expensive titles), then by far the most time efficient way to make money is nick gifts, which can mostly be done with */Rt spirit spammer.

How do you make good single target DPS bow build? Penetrating+Sundering on a shortbow/flatbow with TaO? Anything else you particularly want, like brutal weapon or conjure element? I just got a ranger to 20 and really don't know a lot about the class, I played a magebane in RA back in the day but otherwise never fucked with Ranger.

I have toolbox trader alerts set up for the word ferry or taxi, and I see them pop up a couple times a week. If I'm not in the middle of doing anything, I'll ferry them. It's at least worth not turning in quests for Kama -> LA or Kama -> KC, since you don't need to turn those quests in to continue with the campaign. Docks ferry is debatable if it's worthwhile, since it blocks NF progression. I just happen to have some characters that I'm in no rush to beat NF on, so I might as well.

For ranger pretty much the same as any physical build, you need to run physical supports. TaO bowspam is a classic your main damage is actually needling shot the idea behind it is you stack bonus damage's (such as Expert Focus for +10 and TaO for +15) which turns needling shot's 29 damaage into a fast flying spammable 54 damage. In hero parties I'd recommend having a ritualist (or a /Rt) run splinter weapon so your needle shot becomes needle nuke.

If you're feeling daring and don't want to play optimally, you can bring a command paragon running Incoming + Fall back for speed boost, and something like Find Their Weakness and Go For The Eyes and maybe even Anthem of Envy for some extra bow damage. There are few things more satisfying then landing a penetrating shot that wipes 1/4 of their health, + inflicts deep wound allowing you to instantly start needle spamming.

If you're running a pet or at least 2 physicals in your party you could also consider bringing a blood/curses necro for Order of Pain and Barbs/some of the other useful skills, could maybe even justify sticking Order of Pain on your BiP.

In player parties you almost always have a rit, I just ask them to bring GDW or splinter weapon. There was a deep run where there was 2 rangers 1 was playing TaO, so I ran prepared shot to fuel my spam and EBoSH and had the rit run GDW, I was having spammable needle shots doing 120+ damage and constantly KDing anything I was targetting due to how fast you can spam needle shot.

Alternative to all of this you could also use the new spawning power bow for ritualist and abuse Spirit's Strength for BIG damage.

I honestly think (player) rangers are a really underrated addition to parties, the ability to apply long range single target pressure to enemy monks without having to risk spellcasters diving in deep can be huge in some areas. picrel is build I like to use for bowspam.

with the right buffs triple shot alone does 3 x 70 damage

What bow type is the easiest to camp? Flatbow needs something to lower the arc/travel time and preparations are awful qol wise.

I run a 4-ranger B/P team with some paragons and an orders necro for GWAMMing (VQ, HM mission etc) and it shreds pretty hard. Only thing that really fucks it over is super aggressive physical hate (Tengu mobs with tons of Ineptitude mesmer spam comes to mind) but otherwise it pumps a lot of damage, and you can swap in a shutdown mesmer of your own if you expect counters.

It's also a ton of fun. Metaslaving caster teams are boring as sin and the play the game on their own, while bow pewpewing feels a lot more active and satisfying.

Flatbow and shortbow have the highest attack rate, so if you want damage you gotta pick one of those. Shortbow has fast enough arrows to work for interrupting too and is my preferred all-rounder generalist bow.

Literally. I commonly can't finish a dagger combo on sin with a full metafag team cause the target gets esurged down mid fox fang. It is nicer to run as a melee though, cause you can pick up the slack when there's not a lot of casters or enemies with energy left to fuel the mesmers.

Yeah on my ranger I run a team of 4 paragons with 2 rit's and an orders necro, beat WoC with that team. It definitely struggles in areas with prot enchantments and anti melee, but in all others it shreds almost as fast as esurge team and way more durable for long fights, it's more fun to play.

Sure, this is the old set up I've changed some stuff since then. On the necro I was running Vamp Spirit elite because it's a great survival skill to help negate the HP loss from saccing but I've recently changed it to Pain of Disenchantment to help deal with my enchantment problems, might change it again in the future.

I'm not sure I like empathetic removal as an elite I might remove it in the future with a different hex removal, but it's pretty good at keeping the physicals hex clear.

The ST can be dropped for something else a panic mes, ineptitude mes, or a curses necro would probably be really good replacement. ST just gives a nice safety net for harder areas where you might not always have SV up.

That's a nice idea, but I also like the default colours on weapons. I don't think the dye remover even restores them to their original colour.

I just finished eotn for the first time
The last missions were great, but it was pretty bad overall: worst campaign by far for me
Are the dungeons interesting?

They're a spectrum, some are fun, others are extremely forgettable there's a bunch of cool strategies for some or optimal builds that normally don't work in other parts of the game ex: holy damage for SoO, minion master for arachni's etc... I think if anet had time for one more expansion after EotN they could have really nailed a great dungeon experience.

Best done with actual players, whenever there's a ZB dungeon boss people always run it that day.
