Rust is more zoomer attention span friendly fast paced but after hitting stones for 12 hours and building your base you'll have some Russian kid blow it up at night and lose everything.
DayZ is mostly walking and walking and more walking but has more engaging survival aspects. You will get shot from a bush after walking for 12 hours without seeing a living soul and lose everything.
In general Rust will be more fun on average but DayZ will be boring for most of the time but the rare times shit happens you'll get insane adrenaline injections.

Both are shit games in DayZ gunplay is fucking awfull and you will just get raped by discord groupies.
(never played Rust but its shit too aka you have to turn it into a job and play it every day then you will just get raped by some clan)

I much prefer DayZ. Don't play official because of the cheater infestation. Try a vanilla community server like spaggies or day one. RP community servers are fun too. Also don't use the in game server search it's dogshit. Download DZSA or launchZ and launch the game through that

DayZ is basically dead and will never be finished. It's fun for what it is.

Rust is an objectively better game, but it may have the worst community on planet Earth. And I mean that. It makes League of Legends and FNAF look like bastions of maturity and pleasantness.

DayZ is more popular than it ever has been and is still being updated regularly. On an average day there's 40k players, not bad for an 11 year old game lol

Rust isnt fun. The youtube videos make it seem like its got a lot of pvp, but in reality its a survival slop game with pvp as a secondary. The goal of rust isnt to be good at pvp, its about learning the game's recipes so you can complete them as quickly as possible to guarantee safety. Many games do what rust claims to do, but better. Rust requires many hundreds of hours to proficiently get off the spawn beach and be able to actually try what the game offers

I played DayZ for 20 hours and wouldn't recommend it. It's very noob unfriendly and tediously slow. I had to keep the wiki open at all times to figure out how to do anything. A lot of the first few hours is going around aimlessly and slowly dying. It was fun to befriend strangers and form a group to survive together but, other games have that as well. Unless you have friends already playing it, I suggest finding something else.

I haven't played Rust.

Rust is one of my favorite games of all time, but I can't say in good faith that it's a "good" experience. But it's certainly an experience.
