I've been playing more Gates to Infinity, and recently finished the mission to Great Glacier. The characters, story, lore, and music are all enjoyable. Magnagates and ley lines in particular are a cool concept.
Unfortunately, the gameplay could be better. Dungeons have annoyingly winding hallways and repeat the same copy-pasted room shapes too much. Some dungeons even have extremely overleveled enemies roaming around, ready to ambush and oneshot you. And only being able to work on one mission at a time feels tedious and inefficient. On the topic of tediousness, I've been told that upgrading Paradise is very grindy, which is surely exacerbated by the one-mission limit (that said, I like the idea of building useful facilities and customizing your own Paradise). Lastly, removing rescue codes and replacing them with Streetpass is lame, since you can no longer simply share codes with people and help each other directly.
I'm still having fun with it despite the flaws, but I can understand why it's a relatively unpopular entry in the series.
Here's a concept I had recently for a new look for Booker. I always liked cloaks.
And now to answer some questions.
>>57815600>Do you think ice-types have a low internal body temperature and fire-types a high body temp or just an icy/firey core? How cold/hot do you think they would be?I think Ice-types feel cool and Fire-types feel warm.
>What is your least favorite special episode from EoS?Maybe the Sunflora one, since I seem to recall the boss fight was annoying and the story wasn't particularly interesting.
>What is the hardest you've destroyed a PMD boss?I remember using Smokescreen as a Cyndaquil to cheese Primal Dialga.
>How do Pokemon celebrate big events? Fireworks? Flashy displays of advanced moves? Both of those ideas sound good.
>>57875437 (OP)>What is your favorite Pokรฉmon to use in any PMD game and why?I enjoyed Heracross in RTDX because it let me spam multihit moves. Unfortunately, it didn't have Rapid Bullseye, so I had to bring along another mon that did have it so I could get guaranteed 5-hit attacks on Heracross.
>Do you try to beat level 1 dungeons or are they too hard for you?Too hard.
>What is the luckiest you've been in any PMD game?I don't really remember any super good luck. I remember plenty of times when I got unlucky, though.
>How fire resistant are fire-types? Could they swim in lava or is it species dependent? They can probably tolerate heat better than other types, and they don't burn as easily. I think they can all swim through lava in the games, right? But realistically, I imagine only some Fire-types can withstand liquid hot magma.
>>57813087Also: shoutout to the anon who reviewed all those comics recently. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
>>57878351The game certainly has its flaws but i honestly think it's underrated, i wish people would give it more attention
Finally got around to doing this; forgot about Ikarus' portrait but hey, he's a ghost so it works out.
>>57875437 (OP)>What is your favorite Pokรฉmon to use in any PMD game and why?Eevee, for obvious reasons.
>Do you try to beat level 1 dungeons or are they too hard for you?I'm a fake fan since I've never played one of those before.
>What is the luckiest you've been in any PMD game?Remembering to save before I ascended Temporal Tower so I could savescum since I lost a crapton of critical items when I fainted.
>How fire resistant are fire-types? Could they swim in lava or is it species dependent?Depends more on the species than type imo. A magcargo would probably be fine but a typhlosion might outlast most other mons only slightly longer.

And I'm done with Rescue Team. Pretty short game, finished the main story in 10 hours while the post-game took me an additional 17. Surprisingly enough I ended up liking the partner in this game more than the one in explorers, it was funny how the game allowed you to gaslight and banter with them, something I found Sky to be lacking in are they homeless?. Friends area were sick too, bountiful sea is fucking gorgeous and it's a shame they apparently haven't done anything similar to this since. Only problem I had was that I feel like some of the post game stories could've been added in the main story, while the pacing was quick and snappy the moment the game picks up is also where it ends. Most people probably missed the Gengar sidequest despite that being one of the best parts of the game except when he's being decked by Shedninjas who clips through walls
that being said the game does feel like a beta of explorers but there's a few things it does better. anyway that means that GTI is next, heard that one is the black sheep of the series. Is it bad or does it simply have some flaws that's too hard to ignore? xoxo
>>57899095>are they homeless?they live at the guild then they have a home in postgame

>>57906097Speak up, I couldnโt hear you from all the way down there.
I was playing more Gates, and I got to a cutscene that presented some interesting ideas.
Apparently, Pokemon can alter reality with their minds--in this game, a large amount of negative emotions caused the destructive Bittercold to spawn as a manifestation of everyone's collective negativity. And the world itself has a similar ability where it can spawn the Voice of Life out of its innate desire to survive when it's in grave danger. The Voice tries to protect the world from whatever threat it's facing, and in Gates, this incarnation of the Voice began summoning humans because it believed they could resist the Bittercoldโs power better than native Pokemon.
I thought this loredump was cool for a few reasons. First, the potential for Pokemon's minds and emotions to affect the physical world is intriguing (and kinda reminds me of Warhammer). I wonder what the extent of this ability is. I also appreciated how the protagonist isn't the only human. It stokes curiosity about what the other humans' experiences were like, and it prevents the protagonist from being a generic chosen one. Furthermore, the fact that so many other humans were already defeated by the villains adds to the stakes and makes the conflict feel more serious. Lastly, Bittercold's ability to weaken Pokemon means there's actually a good reason why the Pokemon can't solve their own problems, thus necessitating the hero being a human.
However, I have to question why the Voice didn't appear when the world was threatened in all the other PMD games (unless it did play a role and I just forgot). And if I remember correctly, Super's main villain is very similar to Bittercold, so I may have to dock points from Super for being unoriginal if that's the case.
>>57907947People didn't believe me and called this kingdom hearts shit when I brought it up ages ago. I am vindicated
>>57907947I think Gardevoir became a Voice of Life in Rescue Team? That might just be someone's headcanon I picked up at some point, though.
>>57907947>And if I remember correctly, Super's main villain is very similar to Bittercold,I still can't remember which one is which half the time, they might as well just be the same fucking "force"
>>57907947>However, I have to question why the Voice didn't appear when the world was threatened in all the other PMD gamesThe easiest way to answer that is to say that PMD games are not in the same continuity.
>>57908016I don't remember exactly how RT depicted her, but that would be an cool connection if she was a Voice of Life too. Was she the one who communicated with the protagonist of RT and brought them to the Pokemon world? If so, that means she has the same power as the Voice of Life in Gates, which is notable.

More importantly, I got to that scene in Gates. It was surprisingly brutal. I'd seen it talked about before, so I knew it was coming, but I thought it'd come later. RIP Hydreigon. Granted, I won't be surprised if he comes back, since he's some sort of esoteric spirit entity rather than a regular Pokemon (and this is a kid's game after all). Regardless, it was definitely surprising to see Kyurem literally fall out of the sky and instantly ice Hydreigon (heh), and then proceed to stomp the snot out of the hero over and over again. I liked seeing the partner throw himself in front of Kyurem to try and shield the hero, but the way Kyurem suddenly stopped and said "I see you lost the will to fight, so I'll let you live" felt contrived, as if the writers had trouble finding a way for the hero and partner to escape their situation.
One more thing about Hydreigon: I'm not the biggest fan of how he's a goofball the majority of the time, considering he's the Voice of Life. I figured he'd be more serious considering his crucial role. On the other hand, I guess it serves to make him more clearly innocent and likeable, which emphasizes how the villains were lying about him.

Interesting lore question I've been thinking about instead of finishing stories.
How much variation do you think there is between baby Pokemon of different species in regards to their state at birth and their growth rate (precocious vs altricial).
As far as we know, pokemon hatch individually (not from litters/clutches), which is generally a sign of high parental investment in nature.
In one story, KFC came out of the egg basically a fully functioning child, much like a real chicken. Do you think most Pokemon are born like that, or are they less common? Do you think they match up basically to their irl counterpart?
Personally, I like to think most species develop much like their irl species, but skewing more towards humanlike phases of infant/child/teen for the sake of relatability.
The game mechanic of "everyone hatches basically a full grown adult" is obviously a limitation on the gameplay and not to be taken as exact truth.
>>57912191I always preferred the idea of newborn Pokemon not being fully developed
>>57912191I like to believe all Pokรฉmon are born to become semi-functional rather quickly. Pokรฉmon are elemental infused fighting creatures and they're ready to instinctively defend theirselves mere hours from birth. This early phase of development quickly gives way to higher awareness and learning. Pokรฉmon in PMD might not reach maturity at the same rate as humans and it might even be somewhat quicker. It's difficult to assess without any clear Pokรฉmon lifespans at what rate this would happen.
>>57911191>spoilerthey overplay it in my opinion to the point of ludicrousy. it's their get out of jail free card for diverting answering questions about the lore with the character acting utterly stupidly wacky cause it's funny for some reason
>>57911294tbf i thought someone else was gonna get to it before me. guess not
>>57912191i jive with something close to this post
>>57912449but not to the extent the games do where the characters are essentially completely capable. in my fanfic, i roll with the idea they hatch at the mental capacity of roughly a young human child and work their way up from there using manaphy in pmd2 as a slightly altered explanation of such.
basically, i'm of the opinion they hatch with basic functions but refining would happen over the lifespan of an individual
>>57912191Which way, Western Man?
Newborn pokemon are pretty independent since birth. Manaphy was able to up and go for a beach walk on like day two of being hatched? There's no mention of them needing any special care either, like baby food or whatever, other than being in a wrong environment.
So I'd say they're roughly equivalent to a 10-12 year old when they hatch. Fighting also seems to be pretty intrinsic to a pokemon, freshly hatched or not; in Super, the MC is said to have put up a pretty good fight against multiple opponents despite being attacked almost immediately after being transported to the pokemon world, and only loses when their memory gets erased.
I don't think the species makes any difference, in regards to comparing them to their RL basis. Unlike real animals, all pokemon have exactly the same breeding/hatching process, and are broadly mostly compatible with each other, so I'd argue their babies should also behave in the same way.
just finished special episode 0, i can somewhat get the edginess although overly cringy at times since it's set in the dark future, but holy shit it somehow turned into a shitty jojo wannabe midway through and dusknoir's story was so badly written it's comical

๐
>>57913746words cannot describe how much i despise sped 0 and its even more retarded sequel
>>57913458It's mentioned somewhere in the main series that Pokemon are ready, able, and mature enough to handle themselves as soon as the egg hatches. All their development is already finished. Newborn Pokemon acting like babies is purely for plot reasons (Manaphy hatching in D/P is perfectly capable for both combat and breeding right out of the egg, while the one in Explorers and the one in the Movie are babified to make their respective plots happen).
>>57914810Ash's Riolu hatched and immediately fucks off to try and explore the world with all the energy of an autistic kid. I just think babbies in PMD are already a handful because it's more or less a baby with superpowers but also the survival instincts of a coked out cat.
>>57915043Riolu is specifically a baby Pokemon though, which is probably a special case.

The next entry in Team Eevee's saga, Black and White, Act 2 (and 3!) is now out! In sum the stories are ~30k including the Ikarus story, so there's your fair time management warning.
Also, this story could not have been possible without the immense time and energy put in by my wonderful beta readers Ribombee-anon, Reunianon, and a Random anon. Seriously, I cannot sing enough praises as to how incredible they are; this story is as much a product of their time and effort as it is my own.
And of course, thank you to all the other anons who provided encouragement and support during this very long writing process. I love the Clover Guild so much <3 Without further ado, here are:

there's never anything satisfactory. starting to feel like it'll never end.
good writings i guess
>>57915782I don't know that that's fair. Basically all the characters are shown to be taking some steps towards confronting the source of their personal issues by the end of the story. I'll admit it's kind of frustrating to watch these characters churning their wheels so hard to justify their awful decisions and get very little pushback from the others around them, but that seems to be part of the theme the author is going for. That these characters are so deeply flawed that they run the risk of driving away all potential allies for the sake of the unity of their team, whose very foundation is crumbling beneath them. For all their talk of this "strong friendship", it seems like every member of the team is actually incredibly self centered and don't seem to have any natural chemistry that makes you believe they actually care for one another beyond the most surface level. I was surprised to learn that Althi considers Aramis a friend, when they've sort of been shown as little more than acquaintances that both have some ties to d'Alin.
Althi retains the title of the worst member by a country mile. Pirth is quickly becoming the most likable of the four.
The levels of dramatic violence and angst is dipping slightly into 2edgy4u territory for my liking, but I wouldn't say that's a strike against the story, it's just my personal preference.
I'd say it's a well written story that's obviously only part of a larger, more fulfilling narrative that has yet to be fully laid out.
>>57915186Honestly the whole Drew arc felt a little spiteful, yeah he was a fat mean stupid pervert everyone hated. Glad he died. Ew I stepped in his guts
Pirth is top guy, as always.
>>57916719 i realize that it's thematics, i'm not the kind of person who's going to outright dismiss it on that level, but i just feel kind of miffed that i went through the whole length of that only for it essentially to be a nothingburger even if it is part of a grander scheme. that's with each o the changes they attempt to display here. i just feel remarkably disappointed that the characters work towards a grand reveal and then it's just mental gymnastics to justify baby steps.
let's hope that actually happens then if that's gonna be the case aaaaa

>>57915186Read Act 2.
I don't exactly agree that nothing changes, although maybe it will go back to the status quo by the end of Act 3.
The standout here was of course Arimis - her mental struggles and her decision on her own to choose the truth. Of course, it was just as apocalyptic as expected. To some extent I would consider it a mark against the story if Arimis just pops out as an Espeon and everyone glosses over it at the end of part 3, but I could see (and even understand the reasoning behind both on an IC and OOC level) it happening.
I do agree that to a certain extent Althi and Arimis seem more like casual acquaintances than actually close friends, but perhaps that's more because of how long it's been since I've read the previous stories: maybe there was more about it in one of those.
Pirth continues to be the best boy, despite also being completely insane. Althi has accelerated her trip down the slippery slope by casting ice all the way in front of her.
Not very much focus on d'Alin this time, but I suppose that's fair considering he's on the less problematic side by far. It seems like the Cave of Truth is assaulting 'mon with falsehoods, and the Cave of Ideals is presenting them with, uh, anti-ideals? What is the opposite of an ideal, anyway?
>>57915186>>57920010Act 3:
A fitting climax and catharsis to the whole plot. I was half-expecting it to erupt into a fight scene, but I'm glad it didn't.
Althi was lucky she didn't have the internet and conspiracy theory websites to egg her on. But then again, she doesn't really need them, does she? They all have numerous problems (even more so than at the start), but this far from the end of their story, so that makes sense. It's odd (in an unexpected rather than bad way) that Pirth of all people seems the closest to confronting his personal problems.
Ikarus's side story was amusing. I'd definitely believe that the dreepy are just messing with him over being literal demons who feast off the concept of sin, though. The only way I could buy that is if it implies some things about Drew's original cosmology that had not at all been hinted at previously.

>>57920805He can't keep getting away with it
I'm here with another batch of comic reviews. If you want to look at the previous reviews: https://arch.b4k.dev/vp/thread/57777109/#q57813087
I'm going to give the name, the artist, where to find it; main character species, if any of them is a human, which game it follows, if any, if it contains spoilers; genre/theme; artstyle; and my take on it.
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Alliance (by HipsterFlamingo, comicfury)
Noibat human, Fennekin partner. Set some time after Super, occasionally references it but I wouldn't call it spoiling. The setting is also modernized, basically having 21st century Earth level of technology. This might be a turn-off for some, but honestly it's pretty unobtrusive, it's not like they have guns; this is still a PMD story.
Adventure, fights, character interaction. Very game-y, with stats, levels, IVs, EVs, moves, etc, being a thing that clearly exists and taking game mechanics literally. Generally maintains a serious tone aside from that.
Toony artstyle that gets better over time, though it remains kind of blobby. Also somewhat anthoified.
I'm personally not a huge fan of the level of silliness it operates in regards to the game mechanics, but that's a me problem. Unlike most comics that do this, it doesn't use them for jokes, it's treated completely seriously and actually used for drama. (Do you still call it eugenics if the characters are pokemon?) The story was intriguing enough for me to binge-read the whole thing, which took me a few hours. It wasn't amazing, but I am looking forward to more. The characters are fairly good, they feel distinct enough, they have their own personalities, interests, and goals, and meaningfully contribute to the story. Finished 10 chapters over 5 years, and was supposedly halfway done after chapter 9, so there's hope that it gets finished.
I think the central mystery is being dragged out a bit too much, because the questions posed in the first chapters made very little progress so far, and I hope it's not going to be just a big infodump in the last chapter - so far, the fact that MC is a human is only important in that it makes him a McGuffin. I'm giving the comic a few extra points for having an uncommon pokemon MC. Also, don't look at ref sheets in bonus pages unless you want spoilers.
PMD: Gleaming Hearts (by Fidchell + a bunch of people, comicfury)
Early spoilers for MCs: Riolu human, Fennekin partner, plus Sandslash that hangs next to them; I can't call him a main character, sorry, he's literally a space filler. Original story with an occasional reference to the games.
Adventure, comedy, more comedy early, more adventure later. There's a story, but it's given out in teaspoons until the last chapter, and the rest of it is just moving from point A to B. And I feel like I have to note "pokemon eating food" as one of the genres because a lot of time is spent on it.
Flat artstyle that makes everyone look pudgy. Peculiar.
This one was brought up in the last thread, and I have a lot of things to say about it; which means most of them aren't good. First, there's a tendency that as soon as the main characters run into a problem, something very convinient immediately happens to either resolve it for them or give them an easy way to resolve it. Second, antagonists turning out to actually have good reasons to be that way or just being misunderstood then befriending the MCs happens way too often. Literally the only time that doesn't happen is the stupid fire birds. Third, I think the comic spends too much time in a state where the main antagonist is completely untouchable and has all the cards, and doesn't really use that time to advance the plot nor for character development. The epitome of it is (chapter 7 spoilers) the scene where MCs evolve. Very little build-up, the evolution just happens through a purely physical effect, and then there's no resolution either, a couple of people shrug and go "oh, cool" and nothing really changes. Oh, and also in that scene the MC reveals to his partner that he's a human... which gets completely ignored. All of that leads to the story having too little tension, too few stakes to be exciting. (1/2)
I'm also disappointed in the last chapter. Not only is the way the story is going to end was completely obvious from the moment where MC was told that he could let Hector disappear to save his own life, there isn't really an emotional wrap-up (a running theme at that point). MC pretty much just says "yeah I did a bad thing, but I'm sorry", and that's all we get. I mean, why waste time exploring that any deeper? Just throw in a heroic sacrifice and skip all the complicated stuff, you're going to get brought back by yet another convenient deus ex machina anyway. This sacrifice doesn't serve any purpose, it's just a way for Jake to make things up to Hector without actually DOING anything. And even then he's presented as not really being at fault (also a running theme, you may have noticed) because he was pressured.
This one gets such a long write-up not because it's bad; there are many far worse comics out there. It's the opposite: it's on the verge of being really good. But unfortunately, poor pacing, lack of proper build-ups and resolutions, and boring character development really sink the story. It's also finished, which is a milestone many comics do not make. (2/2)
PMD: Another Perspective (by MRZoet, comicfury)
Purrloin human, Cyndaquil partner. Loosely based on rescue team; no real spoilers so far.
Comedy, character interaction, some fights. Makes jokes about game mechanics (The Stairs Joke).
Hand-drawn! Sometimes pen and pencil, sometimes watercolor. Sticks to official body style.
This one's gimmick is that the MC is a team rocket grunt intentionally sent to the pokemon world. It's pretty nice to have an MC with agency and their own goals, and she and the partner make a good duo. Unfortunately, this comic is only 128 pages so far, and isn't updated very regularly; the story is only starting up. It's a nice read as-is, but any kind of resolution is nowhere in sight.
PMD: The Human Connection (by EnergyLux/EnergyLuxray, comicfury)
Tepig human, Riolu partner. Post-all games, references them and isn't shy about spoiling them; ch1p26 and Q&A2 (which straight-up gives out one of the biggest spoilers of Super) in particular.
So far almost entirely character interaction.
Pretty well-drawn, better than I expected looking at the title card. Most of the comic is b/w, manga-styled, with an occasional colored page. Also, most pages have alt text on hover.
I like this comic. The chapters that currently exist mostly deal with introducing and examining the characters, and the MC is both struggling with the fact that they've been turned into a pokemon and being in an unfamiliar world, something my soul yearns for. It gets a silver medal just for that (gold is still taken by Anamnesis). The dynamic between the MCs is also quite good and well-written. It has five chapters so far; pages release with reasonable frequency during the chapter, but the artist takes fairly long breaks between chapters.
PMD: The Rogue Team (by Teeterglance, comicfury)
Fennekin human, Treecko partner. No direct references to the games.
Too short to evaluate.
The artstyle is pretty nice, fairly anthroified.
This comic is 80 pages long and has been on a hiatus since Jan 2024. The author assures it'll continue some day. I hope that's true, because it looks pretty promising. I don't have much to say about it other than that the artstyle is nice and the partner's personality is interesting.
Eeveelution Squad (by EV-Zero, deviantart)
No humans, one of every eeveelution plus eevee. More characters appear later, including more eevees and eeveelutions and the time jumps back and forth which made it very difficult for me to follow who is who. No direct references to the games.
Starts as a gag-a-day comedy, except decompressed so not every page gets a gag with a dash of will they won't they. Later turns into... I don't even know how to describe.
The artstyle is about as simple as it can get. It is, however, fairly clean.
It has 1023 pages including all the bonus chapters, but this ain't Tales of Elysium; many pages are really small and simple, particularly early. Anyway, the start of the comic is basically just cute without any serious thought. There's some really basic humor. The dialogue often veers into pure nonsense. It's not uncommon to have several pages in a row where nothing happens that could have been one PANEL. No real plot, just eeveelutions beating each other up, being horny for each other, talking about random nonesense, or all of those things at once because tsundere. It then takes a sudden pivot to a hard-to-follow plot, which is still kinda nonsense but now suddenly has a lot of close relatives being killed. It's hard to take it seriously when the same page has a flashback to a character learning that his parents are dead and also "I wish you were a girl because you're girly, then I'd have a girlfriend". Somewhere at that point the comic becomes mostly walls of text of nonsense dialogue. If you need a perfect example of why "show, don't tell" is a rule, look no further. I didn't finish reading it because I got bored, but I glanced at some later pages and it seems to just get more insane.
Rising Ashes (by RustyEevee, comicfury)
No humans; HeartGold nuzlocke, except instead of humans it's just pokemon characters in a sort of Johto Mystery Dungeon setting.
Adventure, feels.
The artstyle is a bit derpy (totodile in particular), but it's cute and I like how the cyndaqil is drawn. Close to official art, but takes liberties.
56 pages in about 4 months, followed by a 4 month break, and now posting 1 page a week. As I said, I like the artstyle, I like how the main character is drawn. The concept seems very intriguing and the dialogues are well-written and flow nicely. There's not many pages yet, but I like what I see so far.

>>57921838This comic started off a lot stronger, but I feel as though its lost the sauce in the last few chapters. It felt like it had some sort of actual story/idea and cooler worldbuilding at the start, but it's sorta just spiraled into shitty Jojo's Bizarre Adventure's chapters lately with no actual substance. I couldn't even really tell you what's going on anymore, but maybe that's because I haven't given it a full read through in a while.
>>57921842This comic is definitely a disappointment. I didn't realize it reading it as it came out, but you're right about solutions just falling into their lap. Also, I feel as though a lot of questions went unanswered, like what precisely the MC was doing before he got isekai'd, and the weird Mimikyu character (but maybe I'm just retarded)
Also, this guy's a vore artist. And unlike our beloved Abridgestry fatfag, there's several scenes in this comic where it obviously leaks in, like when the Mimikyu swallows all of them. Good god man...
>>57921850Really good, great premise. Good character dynamics and it's got an appealing art style. Too bad updates are so slow...
>>57921851Pretty good, but the pacing feels a bit slow. It's been running for a few years and our MCs only just joined their guild properly. I'm glad to get good character exploration, but it feels early to be doing deep dives on the characters before anything has really even happened. Give me some more bog standard stuff to get me familiarized with the characters on a more surface level before you drop deeper character lore on me.
>>57921859Great art, interesting characters, but AAAIIIEEE hiatus. Curious to see where it goes when it resumes
>>57921862>eevee comicI don't think there's a single all/mostly Eevee comic out there that isn't like this. Something about eevee and eeveelutions attracts the most tumblr individuals
>>57921865Haven't read this one, but I think I've seen it in passing - will give it a read sometime.
>>57922285Eevee is an easy to draw cat/fox/dog thing. It's in all the marketing. It's gonna attract transsexuals
>>57921862I remember reading some of this a while ago. It was cute fluff at first, then I skipped ahead to the more current chapters and it became totally unrecognizable, full of edge and deep lore and technology (I think there was even a mecha or power armor at some point). Since I skipped so much of the comic, Iโve always wondered how and why the tone shifted this much.
>>57922280>This comic started off a lot stronger, but I feel as though its lost the sauce in the last few chapters.I wouldn't say these chapters are completely empty of substance, they give build-up and introduce side characters, but I agree that they feel like zany adventures that put the main story on hold. It would have been nice to have them ultimately tie back to it and slowly reveal it. I'd probably think worse of it if I was reading it as the pages were coming out, though. Here's hoping the current chapter will have some reveals.
>I feel as though a lot of questions went unansweredYou're not alone. I kept expecting Mimikyu to turn out to be an antagonist, or at least someone with their own agenda, but honestly it was probably just more deus ex machina. I can forgive not showing what exactly the MC did because it's not important, but it definitely adds to the feeling of unfinishedness.
>there's several scenes in this comic where it obviously leaks in, like when the Mimikyu swallows all of themOh, I sussed that out long before that scene. Chapter 2 pages 16/17 made it blatant enough. Once you notice the way the maws and stomachs are drawn and the amount of food and eating, you can't unsee it. I didn't really want to say it on the account of that guy who got really upset learning that about Abridgestry a few threads back.
>>57922448It's a really abrupt shift between chapter 4 (wacky jolteon/glaceon romance) and special chapter 1 ("my parents were murdered" backstory). SC1 follows C4, the order is just confusing. Basically, author decided to give everyone edgy tragic backstories and make the story intense with the subtlety of a sledgehammer. There's some BS about a virus that turns people crazy, too.
>>57922469>our parents are dead>yo our friends parents "adapted" our crippled but actually alive mother as a mid-wife right after she thought her entire family was killed>thats it, they hug it out and then go back their separate ways until the family reunion at the end of the comicThe story really was all over the fucking place, I don't know how it has such a cult following

anyway i can see why it's the least popular in the series. Being able to only do one quest at a time really just makes upgrading paradise slow and the dungeons being repeating hallways make them a chore to go through, especially the longer ones, which is honestly a shame because imo it has the best cast of characters and the better story out of the pmds i played so far. I also really liked the partner in this game having a backstory and ambitions. Too bad there were barely any dialogue options to mess with them though
Now i only bothered patching the game to make the text speed 2x faster after i completed it and it makes everything so much better. leveling up fucking takes forever here that i consider this the optimal way to play it
spoilers ahead: I wonder, if this game came out one generation later would they have given the Voice of Life role to Xerneas? Well not literally because the twist wouldn't have worked but moreso have Hydreigon or another pokemon as one of their avatar before they "died"? this is literally just some speculating because they're pretty similar in concept but peraphs just having unexplainable forces of nature in the world makes it more mystic. what do you guys think?
The epilogue breaking the 4th wall was also kind of crazy and I didn't expect it
i do think it's worth playing (as long as you patch the text speed don't suffer like I did) if just for the story and characters
I'm also going to play the Wiiware games (Light Adventure Squad at least) after I finish playing Super, due to being Japan exclusive they're not talked about a lot even despite having gotten a translation not long ago. What's the consensus here aside from the models being dogshit
>>57921473and then the game tries to set up Emolga and Virizion instead
>>57924657 maybe, but the reason why hydregion is is a very subtle reason that nobody ever mentions. the vol is the voice of everything in nature. him being a dragon is a personficiation of the so-called dragon energy that runs through the ley lines (which're referenced by name thanks to umbreon about the magnagates).
it sucks because even when you fully upgrade paradise the results aren't that great. the interaction in this game is peak though
>adventure squadi hear it's hard as balls and awfully balanced but nothing much about it
>>57924657>i do think it's worth playing (as long as you patch the text speed don't suffer like I did) if just for the story and charactersJust watch a walkthrough. You'll get the same experience. The gameplay is unbearable.
>>57924728nah man the gameplay isn't unbearable, it is the weakest so far i'll agree with anyone who says that but it's closer to a "tech demo" type of way than "straight up unplayable"
as i've stated earlier it's really the one mission quota and long dungeons hallways that fuck shit up but in the perspective you're doing it just to complete the main story/epilogue it is 100% doable because they decided to lock the long dungeons in the post-game
it is absolutely a problem for full paradise completion. that would be insane. I just decided to build the music paradise and repaint my house before calling it quits
>>57924694>it sucks because even when you fully upgrade paradise the results aren't that great.exactly why I didn't go through with it too, upgrading paradise feels like a lot of work for not a lot of rewards
I like the concept but the execution just wasn't there. If this series ever gets another entry yea I wouldn't mind them revisiting the idea
>>57924657>What's the consensus here aside from the models being dogshitThe gameplay is okay and many prefer it to Gates' gameplay at least.
Aside from the Japan-only part and being a Wiiware game, it also doesn't get talked about that much because there is not really anything to say about the """story""" since it is so short and dumb that I can write the entire plot in two lines without even summing it up that much.
Even if I wanted to rant about the story, there wouldn't be much to say.
>>57924657>I wonder, if this game came out one generation later would they have given the Voice of Life role to XerneasYeah, I wonder.
>>57924823Anybody who says the gameplay isn't that bad quit immediately after finishing the post game quest. It is ungodly boring and repetitive, and that's going by PMD standards. A series people get filtered by for being repetitive
>>57925793Is there any real point to playing after the postgame quest? I assume you can try to finish the dex and unlock special dungeons and stuff, but is it worth it?
>>57925875I got all recruits for Gates and achieved max rank, and I can tell you, no, it's not really worth it unfortunately. Unlike the previous games there is literally no incentive at all to do any of the level reset dungeons (IIRC one of the only true level reset dungeons is exclusive to DLC for some reason.) There are no real completion rewards or anything cool that happens by getting lv100 mons or anything. As other anons in the thread have pointed out, Paradise is pretty half baked, and while it is useful to be able to farm infinite seeds and oran berries, and the minigames are kinda fun, there's not much point in using Paradise other than for that. I don't hate Gates or anything but the postgame and completion is a lot crappier than in the previous entries
>>57925875I remember trying to do the level reset dungeons and I gave up very quickly. Think about how slow the text is in the game, and now think about how many painfully slow text boxes you need to sit through for a single level. Now multiply that by 4 for your whole team and you spend entire minutes at the start of an attempt simply waiting for
>HP went up by 1!>Attack went up by 2!>Defense went up by 1>Special attack went up by 2!>Special defense went up by 1!And since it's a level reset dungeon, this happens to everybody in your party after a couple KO's when you start a run.

>>57928021it's not all bad though, this image is fairly cute and it's from one of the more recent chapters. she can create really good atmosphere with some of the more depressing scenes, she have a nice style for art for literally anything but pokemon. Especially those that are supposed to 'look' like certain domesticated animals that she thinks they're supposed to be drawn like because that's all her fanbase laps up repeatedly
i literally have to sit while these numbskulls place on a pedestal an 'eevee' you'd swear came out of someone's poorly traced photos from a different unrelated fic, but i only bring it up because she's attracted 'those' kinds of people thanks to this seemingly innocuous (to them) shit
>>57928028>she haveshe has*

>>57928029and in case anyone wants to actually read her fic it's here at this link. On AO3, it has the most hits of any fic under the PMD fandom tag, called Seekers of Soul
https://archiveofourown.org/works/26908537
her art is on full display as there's usually one image at least per chapter with either a second to zoom in on the characters or some other reason. everything I'm saying about the art you can judge for yourself there. The story itself so far is really good but the art just brings it down a little with the aforementioned things that bring it down.
I make it sound like the worst thing in the world, it's not. It's certainly tolerable. There is and has been worse, but it's just tarnished in a way I don't see anyone else mention. Probably because the PMD fanfiction scene is practically a minefield of disingenuous folks who're difficult to sift through if you haven't been around

At least the artist makes cute ship art, even if the off-modelness can be offputting
>>57928016I definitely prefer the proportions of the "new design" Charmander, at least based on these images. His legs look way too short in your pic. Riolu's face is more tolerable in your pic though.

It has been a hot while since I've written anything major involving these two.
This was originally supposed to be a short story that spiraled out of control alongside my own life (I started on this in November of last year) and had since been integrated as a chapter, or rather a collective of 7 segments that constitute a volume of events that I somehow consolidate as a single chapter. What the hell is formatting.
Please read at your own pace my nearly 18k word yarn that continues the mysterious and admittedly disjointed and strange narrative that I have construed.
I give to you...

she does make good ship art. and a good ship story. it's just really unfortunate how it turns out half the time

how sensical is this oc's outfit?

>>57940702Nothing wrong with pulling the cart, but you can just tell him where you need to go. You don't direct your cabbie with a bridle, you just give him the address.
My headcanon is that Explorers takes place after Gates and this is the same Dunsparce. Otherwise it's kinda weird that a Dunsparce being horny is a recurring thing.
>>57940734I think this might be because it vaguely resembles a balding old man? Oshawott gets the same treatment in some japanese works I've seen.
